LV Official
[3d='azelf']Valorlocke[3d='azelf']

Ladies and Gentlmen I am proud to present the Valorlocke! What is this? The Valorlocke is a Nuzlocke with a few of our own rules added in to spice things up! Please note that this is a fairly new thing, so if you have any suggestions or questions then let us know!

Valorlocke rules
1. All Nuzlocke rules still apply. This is a variant of the 'Locke after all!
2. If you encounter a Pokémon that you've claimed on LV, you may attempt to catch it regardless of the Route's current capture status
3. For players of Generation VI, there will be an option to start a run with an Azelf! These will be provided by [member='LunarRabbitPikachu']
4. Item limits and level caps will be placed on the 'Locke (these limits and caps vary between the two difficulties)
5. Similar to a Gymlocke, in a Valorlocke the amount of Pokémon you catch before a gym will ve restricted to 2 Pokémon per gym.
6. It's encouraged (not necessary) to name your Pokémon after current LV members, provided they're okay with that!
7. If your Pokémon's health get restored by an in-game event you had no control over (ie an npc healing your Pokémon without your request), or if it happens in order to progress you forward in the game's story (such as Mom healing your team at the start) those will NOT be counted towards your Pokémon Center heals. All other NPCs who give you a choice instead count however.
8. Gift Pokémon received from NPCs in-game (such as Korrina's Lucario) won't count towards your current Pokémon limit (this includes Starters)
Now you may be wondering about the aforementioned difficulties. In a Valorlocke, there are two difficulties: Regular and Hardcore. These difficulties will determine how much of a hard time you may have with the Locke, so be sure to be extra prepared for the worst!

Limits List

Regular runs
In-Battle Heals: 2 for the battle. This will increase by +1 if you KO a Pokémon (effect lasts only for the current battle)
In-Battle Status Restores: 3 for the battle. This will increase by +1 if you KO a Pokémon (effect lasts only for the current battle)
Hardcore Runs
In-Battle Heals: 1 for the battle. This will increase by +1 if you KO a Pokémon (effect lasts only for the current battle)
In-Battle Status Restores: 2 for the battle. This will increase by +1 if you KO a Pokémon (effect lasts only for the current battle)
Out-of-Battle Heals: 10 from the start. This value increases by +2 per victory (+5 per gym/E4 victory) (This is for healing items found in the bag)
Out-of-Battle Status Restores: 10 from the start. This value increases by +2 per victory (+5 per gym/E4 victory) (This is for status restoring items found in the bag)
Pokémon Center Restores: 5 from the start. This value increases by +5 per gym leader.

Level Caps:
Regular Mode: initial cap is Level 20: this raises by 10 per gym victory
Hardcore mode: initial cap is Level 15: this raises by 5 per gym victory

Once in the E4, Level caps are not to be worried over anymore.

What's the Reward?
Well, this is an event right? Participants in the Valorlocke will receive 100 Pokepoints right off the bat.
For completing a Hardcore run: Congrats to you! Certainly a feat of valor, for which you will be rewarded 1500 Pokepoints. Not only that, you'll receive a free adoptable!
For completing a Regular run: Well done indeed! Surviving the task, you've been rewarded 1000 Pokepoints.

Q&A
What if I break the level cap? The level cap is there for difficulty: breaking it would ultimately make its place redundant. Ultimately, it will render the Pokémon that broke the cap unusable for the rest of the run (officially counted as dead).

The cap broke mid-gym battle! What now? No need to fear, that is an exception. So long as you win the battle, and the Pokémon that broke the cap didn't faint, you won't have to let go of it.

I ran out of Pokémon Center heals but my Pokémon are in bad shape! Well unfortunately, that's how it is on a Hardcore run. If you run out of Pokémon Center heals you'll need to rely on your healing items, unless those run out too. If they do, you'll have to fight more trainers to get more healing item allowance.

Is the Azelf low-leveled? Yes, it is, which may lead you to question if it's legit. The answer to that is simply put no. Stats, nature and so on are perfectly legit, but the obtainance of the low leveled Azelf is not. That is why Azelf is an optional route: some players may not want a not-totally-legit Pokémon on their team.

Can I play this like a Wonderlocke? Sure can! Just remember if you do that the original rules are still in place: only this time you're wonder trading your members away.

I played this Wonderlocke style but the Pokémon I got breaks the level cap! No need to panic here, you have two options: either store it away until its level doesn't break the cap, or trade it again till you get one that's within cap limit. The rules on this matter can be slightly bent due to Wonderlocke randomness.

I encountered a shiny but I can't catch any more Pokémon! Don't worry, that's a special exception similar to the "claimed Pokémon" rule. If you encounter a shiny, you can ignore the rules for that particular Pokémon.

Are you ready? Get going!

Note: to claim the prizes you'll need to have written proof of your adventure: pictures aren't necessary, just so long as you inform us of your journey! For example, create a thread in this very section (Pokémon Challenges) to document your travels.

For all Gen VI players:

If you want to start off with an Azelf, please catch one Pokémon to trade for the egg. The Azelf you will receive will have a Bold Nature and starts at Level 1 due to the egg rules. Also, please send me a pm with your FC (Friend Code) and I will send you the egg.

Hmmm... I might try this sometime. Still haven't finished [Dark Rising] though. I think I'll play a FRLG Valorlocke if I get around to it, I'll at least start it now though. Great idea though!

EDIT: Do non-Pokémon Center Restores count against the total? Because my mom just healed me

This sounds like fun. When I do to it, I'm going to do nicknames for my captures based on who claimed that Pokémon. For instance, when I catch a Paras, I'll name it RedG (or something that will fit the size limit), or an Onix (I guess) named after myself.

Thanks for bringing this up, I updated the rules to inform on that! In short, if it's one you had no control over (such as if a trainer you fought is programmed to heal you up after, regardless of request) then it doesn't count. If you chose to be healed by them (in a way that wasn't necessary for story progression or anything) that will subtract from your Pokémon Center heal count.

As far as I'm aware, if that's an early-game mom heal (one where you need to talk to her to progress the story) that won't count.

What would "written proof" entail? Like an adventure log, a rage log, a scrapbook, etc.?

I should, probably elaborate more on that haha. Yeah, basically an adventure log: via creating a thread in this very section (Pokémon Challenges) indicating that it's a Valorlocke challenge. It's simply there for you to document your travels, so that not only can we take part in a small way (watching as you go through it) but also for us to see that you really have gone on a journey, and aren't just trying to claim a prize for something you didn't do.

If that's too much hassle, then I'm sure we can always find an alternate solution!

Can I still participate in this? Are rom hacks allowed? I've been wanting to do a new challenge run on something for quite a while now :3
