Currently, we're looking for some ideas and concepts for our new hack game. We want original ideas which will make this game unique.

    Current ideas:
Ability to change your clothes in game at will, there will be a special section in the bag for clothes which you can buy and also maybe obtain.

Possibly add some sort of awards system, not medals but something to make sure people complete every inch of our game.

    Current Team:
    Achromatic - Concept Manager
    TheAwesomeTyranitar - Spriter
    Satix - Graphic Designer

I suggest making some or all of the gyms have gimmicks other than just specific types. For example, one for rain, one for sun, sandstorm, only using Pokémon that don't evolve, only using species that are gender specific, maybe a gym where it's all Dittos and you must face yourself. Something to mix it up.

Perhaps something like HG/SS where there are two regions.

It might be limiting, but I think it would be interesting to encounter dual legendaries from various generations in double battles, forcing you to choose only one to catch. It would be similar to how some are version exclusive in the official games, but here you get a choice. Examples would be Ho-Oh and Lugia, Groudon and Kyogre, Dialga and Palkia, Zekrom and Reshiram. Sometimes hard choices must me made. ;) It would prevent a full completion of the Pokédex, but do people really play rom-hacks for that?

It's a good idea to have the starters have typing in such a way that it plays out like rock paper scissors, but it doesn't have to be Grass/Water/Fire. I'm thinking it could be Psychic/Dark/Fighting, for example, or Rock/Flying/Fighting. If there is going to be a planned rival choosing something better than you, it would make sense. The thing with Dark being immune and not just strong against Psychic attacks wouldn't really matter in the classic "first rival battle", where there are only the basic physical attack moves of weak Pokémon. As they get stronger through the game you would pretty much be forced to choose something else rather than battle starter vs. starter with the rival anyway.

Maybe something like in B/W. You would have two different rivals.

I know this may seem impossible, but how about adding cutscenes in the game? Like those in Emerald when you encounter the legendaries in Sootopolis.

Definitely make stronger gym leaders that you can't just use one Pokémon for.

For example a Normal gym having things like Girafarig and birds so that you can't use flying types.

Perhaps each gym leader could have one more Pokémon each time, so the first has two Pokémon, second has three etc and the last few have six 'cause they're all difficult and stuff.

And more interesting puzzles are in order, i think. Or maybe you could have one or two gyms with just the gym leader (like Jasmine) to make it sem more intense.

    Pokémon Shadowed Depths
The story begins in the Kansai region, a region which is full of mystery and secrets to be learned by the player.

The player's journey starts off in a small town known as Violet Shore Town. This small town is a tiny island located by a beach; from here players can take off and visit other islands across Kansai.

Before leaving, the players will be visited by a Pokémon Researcher, one whom aims to study about Pokémon and their evolutions. His name is Professor Linden.

Professor Linden will give you three Pokémon, you can choose between ???, ??? and ???.

Once given a Pokémon, you will be given your Pokédex in which you can register all of the Pokémon you have seen on your journeys.

From this point onwards, you will take off on to the beach and go to the port. At the port you will be able to take a boat which will lead you to other islands.

    Notes:

Kansai is a Japanese Region. I thought it sounded pretty cool to be honest, not too hard to say either!

Violet Shore is a perfect name because of the vast amounts of sunsets across the city. A Japanese name would sound sort of weird. They don't really do that in Pokémon for towns and stuff. Besides, our game is English.

Linden is a type of tree. Generic, I know, but at least it follows some sort of continuity.

Linden studies evolution because in this game we plan to add brand new evos for certain Pokes who need them.

Maybe Linden could introduce people to some of these new Pokémon?

We're not sure about the starters just yet, but we assume they will be Fighting, Psychic and Dark types.

An expansion on the clothes idea, maybe there could be certain areas where you need to put on a certain clothing item to continue. For example, if you need to go to a cold area you could equip a Jacket and pants to the character instead of having a short skirt and short sleeves. Or like in R/S/E you would need the Go-Goggles equipped to the player in order to proceed through an area with an intense storm. (Like a sandstorm or snow storm). I like the idea of different types of starters than just the basic Grass/Fire/Water.

How about an area with things you wouldn't normally see together in a game. Such as lava and snow? Have a few lava pits around the map with patches of snow around areas where the heat isn't so intense and snow falling.

    Update to the storyline/details:

From Voilet Shore Town, you head off to Route 1. From here you will be able to battle a few trainers on the beach before taking off on a boat. Once the boat ride is over you are taken to Dewdrop Port City. This port city is full of helpful starters for the trainer, such as many new trainers to battle, evolution items/general items which will help the trainer for the next City. Here, the trainer will encounter some shady characters, but not much will be revealed about them until a later point.

In Dewdrop Port City, you will be given a Pokémon. You can choose one of the three special Fakemon which will be evolutions to certain real Pokémon with none. Getting one of these Pokémon will be unavoidable as Professor Linden will approach your trainer the minute you get off the boat and arrive in the City.

The shady characters as mentioned previously are this games evil team, and will get formal introductions in the first Gym City.

Are the starters going to be Dual typed, meaning Grass/Fighting Fire/Psychic and Water/Dark or something (Just not Fire/Fighting), or are they just going to be Fighting/Psychic/Dark. I think we still need the general Pokemonesque continuity staples like 8 typed gyms (but we could introduce a Light/Space/Cyber/etc. type), G/F/W starters, Tree Professor, 1/2 Evil Teams, Legendary Trio, etc, though we could expand on the facts by tweaking certain other effects, like new Status Effects, (Stone, Blind, etc.) new Battlefield Moves (like Sandstorm), or others.

For instance, in my Fakemon region, I have an unreleased Psychic type duo based off stage magicians. It's signature move is Card Draw, which is special because it does a different thing based off of probabilities.
    10% Chance nothing happens
    5% Confuse Enemy (5% self)
(same as above for Poison, Sleep, and Paralyze)
10% Chance for 75 Psychic Special damage
    and so on.

I'm also planning a signature move for a Legendary Trio based off of nocturnal creatures (Troll/Vampire/Werewolf). This move is called Moon Call (for now), which is like Sunny Day and Rain Dance. It changes the weather into Moonlight. In Moonlight, Dark/Psychic types gain power and the abilities of the trios activate. Wattroll, the Electric Troll's ability is Aversion. Aversion makes Wattroll always move last (except Priority Moves) except in Moonlight. In Moonlight, Wattroll changes form and its Speed and SPDEF increase. Vampyre, the Fire Vampire's ability is Envelop. Envelop makes Vampyre's evasion go up in any weather besides Moonlight, but in Moonlight, Vampyre's SpATK and Accuracy increase. Blizycan, the Ice Werewolf's ability is Transmorph. In Moonlight, Transmorph makes Blizycan change form, gaining ATK and DEF. Since they are also dark types, Moonlight increases their Dark-typed moves' power!

So in conclusion, we can do cool things, but i think that we should keep the staples relatively the same. We should have a branching storyline, though, that presents mystery, plot twists, suspense, and bacon.

If we need a version(s) name, we should consider that too. Maybe Pokémon Valor and Knowledge, representing Power and Wisdom, giving us an idea for what to base the legends off of, then.

A few random suggestions that could be used. Some are kinda stupid but some would be pretty fun to use
Maybe you'll get a glimpse of a fakemon legendary very early on and often throughout the game. Never fighting it, but seeing it around. Until you fight it at the end at least.
The elite four is controlled by the evil team?
    Maybe three teams of grass/fire/water?
Miltank stampede? (Tauros probably would be better)
Someone has you carry a radioactive material to some scientist as a favor/job and you are startled by a sableye/other basic person like farfetchd or spiritomb into dropping it. The box containing it splits open, and the material causes the sableye/other to evolve.
I like the idea of more weather routes/clothing needed to get through. ex. Go-goggles
A mysterious teleporting/disappearing person like the bridge girl in black/white, or the waiter in a previous generation

Just a few thoughts, hope some make it in!

Also, if needed, I could make a few sprites for the game. Probably not mugshots, since, all but one of mine so far have been edits of official ones. However, I can do overworld sprites and such. I see you already have a spriter though, so I may not be needed in this. xD

Anyway, looking back on houndoom17's post, getting glimpse of a legendary early on might be good idea. At first, it could be sort of like a wandering legendary in the beginning. You'll "randomly" run into it, with it at level 40+, right after you leave your starting zone. You'd enter a battle with it and like, for example, Latios or Latias, it would run away. Once the battle has ended you see the overworld of the Pokémon run off into a forest or something. Triggering another event that explains pretty much everything about the lore of the region and the Pokémon's role in that.

I like some of those, however I don't want to use the fact that the Elite Four is controlled by the team since essentially that's up with my team Team Onslaught/Slaughter (It changes partway through). But I like more routs, mysterious people, glimpses of the 'Mons, and the radioactive thing.

I'm really liking Valor and Knowledge for themes and game names. Comment on this idea, mods! =) (Fighting and Psychic main legendaries!)
