When you're listening to a song on a video site like YouTube or Vevo, do you prefer to look for videos that have the songs and the lyrics, or do you prefer the official music videos?

    Examples of differences:

    Lyric video:
    http://youtu.be/8J5PYzkzDQI

    Music video:
    http://youtu.be/4PkcfQtibmU

I honestly hate watching the videos to songs, because I could love the song with a passion, then all of I sudden I see the music video and just hate it... That is a common thing with me, but there is very few musicians that can pull that off, like Weird Al.

I way prefer the lyrics to a normal music video, because it helps me learn the song better and I dislike most music videos.

Always the lyric videos, with a few exceptions; they're usually not interrupted or have any additional background noises, movie-like intros, etc. i.e. Owl City's "Deer in the Headlights" video, or the beginning of "I Knew You Were Trouble". I always listen to music while browsing in other tabs and rarely watch them unless I'm on my tablet or something, though, so it doesn't make too much of a difference outside of those things.

I'd agree that most music videos suck, they don't add anything, so I'll take lyrics so I can figure out what the song is saying. Most of the time I'm doing something else anyways so I don't see either lyrics or music video

I prefer lyric videos. While they're not of the greatest quality, I always get put off any time I watch a music video. Whenever I see a music video of one of my favourite songs, there are some scenes that make me feel uncomfortable, which tend to stick with me any time I listen to it again.

Sometimes I'm curious about a music video, I will generally have the music playing in the background though so lyric videos are my go to choice. Some artists are better with the music video (aforementioned Weird Al Yankovich as well as LMFAO), but most of the time I will pick a lyric video if there is a difference in timing between the lyric video and the music video

I don't really ever look for either since I don't sing or watch the YouTube videos for music. However, I would probably prefer just the plain old music video :)

I love Lyric videos a little better due to the fact I can follow along to see if a song is stupid or not. However with Music videos, they're usually a little more fun with strange actions and really awful things I like to point out.

I don't really look at them, so I prefer lyric videos since I find the MV's lag a bit with this slow internet :'(

I really like those lyric videos where the text features fancy animation comparable to something done in After Effects rather than lyric videos that have plain text and look like something produced in WMM. A small, silly thing, I know, but that's what I prefer. I don't like looking at official music videos either.

I prefer Music Videos. Lyrics only when I want to know the meaning of the song. But personally, I prefer to watch and listen the video to know what i think about it. It is also more original for me :)

I prefer Lyric videos. Official videos sometimes don't have the full song, or they start off with an intro instead of singing. Some of them even have cuts in the middle with some scenes rather the song. When I come looking for music, it's music that I want - not a mini movie.

If I ever chose to listen to a video of that sort (which is rare), I would certainly look for one with lyrics before all else. Words in songs are not always easily understood, and very rarely will artists enunciate all of their words. And if I am trying to follow the song's words and tune, an 'official' music video with its over-the-top dancing and in-your-face attitude would distract me from that.

Of course, there are the rare instances in which the official videos actually do have the lyrics (like Weird Al's Word Crimes), but those are individual cases for sure.

I'd usually look up first the Lyrics video, it's an habit I got since I had to look up subtitles mostly for jpop/kpop songs lol.
Even if the MV is good I'd feel the necesity to read the lyrics and stuff I don't really know why. XD

I prefer music videos, I think they're pretty cool to watch. Unless they're fanmade and consists of a slideshow of images :( then it's not cool. I look up lyrics on Google.

I perfer lyric videos myself, unless I know all the words and then I don't care if it's the music video or not.

I usually prefer the lyric videos for songs because I feel like they incorporate more to the overall experience of them, also some lyrics aren't easily understood unless you have them in your face.

Some artists are hard for me to understand as well, so I like to look at lyric videos to understand what I'm hearing. Ever hear of Young Thug?
