Do you play, or want to learn? Even if you don't, that's ok too! I'm curious how many people in the Valor community play c:

I haven't been playing for very long, but I really like how you have to think about your deck and create strategies for different ones:3

I HAVE ARRIVED AND I AM EXCITED FOR NO REASON

Ahem, 'cuse me. I've been playing MTG since Dark Ascension, sooooo... Um... I dunno how many years ago. XD and I have since become a magic addict help My friend tried to get me to play for probably about a year before I finally gave in, haha.

Ooh I used to play with my uncle and whatnot. I don't have many cards but?? I'm alright at it. Its actually a bit more easy to play in comparison to the Pokémon TCG.

I don't really think too hard on strategies, but I love combining two elements, namely blue and green, white and black, blue and white, and black and green. Though I go all green usually. Those forest cards are spectacular. I love taking over the game with an overwhelming force that absolutely nobody can stop. But if you have just plain forest you really gotta watch out for people with water cards, specially how they can steal your creatures. That and how they have a ton of flying creatures that just kinda go right overhead. That was always annoying. My uncle was heavy on the blue magic. He usually gave me a lot of problems if I didn't have my own blue cards to counter.

Aura gnarlid was my bff in that game. That and overwhelming stampede/overrun.

Having paid occasional visits to a card shop near to where I live, in which Magic: The Gathering was the primary source of income and traffic, I am fairly convinced that no one under 30 plays that game.

I myself do not play Magic, as I don't really see the need to waste money on a hobby I will not ultimately pursue (I'm looking at you, Yu-Gi-Oh) - however, I do know how to play it, and if you hand me a deck and tell me the basics of how it works, I will be able to utilize it. Occasionally I was invited to play it with friends who had spare decks, and it was quite entertaining.

However, I found the 100-card singleton format to be the most fun and entertaining to watch. (I believe that is called Commander? as you keep an ace unit 'commander' in its own special zone until it enters play.) I am not entirely sure why that is, but it did let me witness a lot more variety in deck-building since you weren't allowed duplicates of anything other than basic lands.

It is a fun game, that much is sure. It is just not my cup of tea, in the end. However, it is something I can reasonably follow and understand.

I've only started playing recently, thanks to [member=Kaze]. I'm still a bit of a newb and I haven't got many cards yet, but I'm thinking of making a naga based deck. I love snakes so it's perfect for me :P
Some spider cards would be nice too...

I personally use White/Black or White/Red decks and i have a quite god Sliver deck.

Magic is quite expensive hobby, but its really worth it ^^

I used to play Magic a lot a few years ago! I sadly had all my cards taken by someone, so I only have a couple ones left. I did have a couple really fun decks, including a Sliver deck, Artifacts deck, and a mana-accel Eldrazi deck. They were all a ton of fun to play, and I could really screw over an opponent if I got out one of my hard-hitting creatures early-game. My Eldrazi deck was notorious for that, mana-accel is evil when combined with those decks, haha.

I don't play anymore because I'm not a huge fan of the competitive nature of the game, but it's still fun to watch other people play.

Honestly, most of the people I see play are either high school or college-age. Many schools and colleges I've seen have MTG clubs, or gaming clubs that have MTG included as a subsection. It's huge especially with 14+ year old kids in my area, although a lot of older people like it too. That's one of the reasons why it's so cool, there's a huge variety with the players!

Ooh yeah, I've heard that called either Commander or EDH (Elder Dragon Highlander). I personally call that format EDH, and it's ridiculously fun to watch! I never made a deck myself, but it is a really creative format that I don't see way too often.

There are millions of people who play MTG, and the majority of them are younger than 30. Especially the casual players who don't play consistently and to win. As Del pointed out, there are many players in high school and college or just out of college who like to play.

I wouldn't be surprised if your store had a very competitive player base old and financially stable enough to consistently afford all the cards to become top players of that store.

In all honesty, I would not be surprised if this were the case - especially the 'financially stable' bit. I made the comment primarily in jest as I know that the age range of MTG players is extremely varied (I know a few myself who aren't that old); it is just the vast majority of those I've seen are 25 and up. And I don't really think they are all too competitive; most of the time I just saw them having fun with Commander games. Oh, and pack wars. I hear pack wars are quite common.

So that is why it is called EDH. I had heard the term before, but did not know what it stood for. I'm still mystified as to why it's called that; the best explanation I can find is that the originators of the format used an archetype called Elder Dragons to test it. That does not quite explain the 'Highlander' bit, though...

I don't normally play very competitive games, just casual ones with a few buddies x3 I have played in a few tournaments at the game shop I go too, but that's about it... I like mixing colors normally, but I do have mono green and black decks, but I've been trying to come up with a good red and green deck since red doesn't normally need a lot of mama so you can start out fast then have huge green creatures cx

You are indeed correct, the original creators originally used only the very old Elder Dragon creature cards as their commanders/generals. The "Highlander" part comes from the fact that it is literally a Highlander format.

It should be noted that while the original name is Elder Dragon Highlander (EDH), its marketing name is Commander due to copyright reasons, I believe.

Anyway, I play pretty much anything. I play mono color, dual color, tri color, and even five color decks across lots of different formats. The only formats I don't have any experience in are Vintage and Legacy. I'm primarily a competitive player trying to put together my final competitive deck.

So that is what they meant by Highlander. ...I should have figured that out; why didn't it come to me? I feel most foolish now.

I'll have to look back through my one or two decks that I made when I was around people who played it, but I think I have mostly black green and red. I played the app version of the game, and really enjoyed using blue and blue-white decks along with an occasional five color deck, but I don't have enough time or money to actually make those decks ahehe.

I like Magic, but nobody near me plays very much. Hopefully I find somebody who plays so I can get back into it soon.

Nobody really plays near me either, so I normally only play with my friend who taught me, and we go to the game shop that's like 45 minutes away every once in a while cx

If you don't have a lot of people near you playing, there's always the option to play online. There are a few free sites and servers online that allow you to battle others online. There's also Magic Online, the sanctioned servers for MTG by the game's developers. They all have their ups and downs though.

I'v been playing for about 2 years now and I really enjoy the game. Honestly compared to the Japanese TCG which typically get ridiculous rule bases over time (*cough*yugioh*cough*), it's great that it remains relatively similar.

I play mostly blue decks in some variation. The closest thing I have to a competitive deck is my Espers deck which is basically RTR Blue/White Control mixed with Standard's Blue/Black Dragons Control. That deck's a lot of fun to play against any midrange creature deck with it's around 20 removal spells. Other than that I've been playing around with Jeskai aggro and Izzet Heroic aggro.

My friends absolutely love MTG, and pretty much play it everyday.
I would love to play myself, but I have no idea how the game works besides the fact you need lands to summon a creature and you start off with 20 lives? But that's pretty much it. Well, besides how expensive the cards are. Remember folks, if you want your kids to keep off drugs, make them play Magic since they'll spend all their money on cards.

I started playing around Zendikar and really enjoyed it, I recently got back into it with the release of the Tarkir block (Temur all the way)

Its just a really fun game as far as tcgs go.

I haven't played myself but if I took the time to learn about it and put together some decks, I might give playing a shot. I'm usually more into card games for the cards themselves though lmao
