Makeup is widely used by performers and the average person, sometimes to accentuate the wearer's face or sometimes to make their face look entirely different. Male performers often wear makeup also, but the market is tailored more so towards females, with average men being judged for wearing makeup casually.
How do you feel about makeup and it's uses? Do you think it should be embraced or do you think it's deceitful and takes away from natural beauty? Should it be socially acceptable for men to wear makeup like women do, or not?
What are your views on makeup as a whole, and why do you stand by those views?

Cosmetics has been an expression of beauty across the world for many, many, many, centuries. Infact, the history of cosmetics goes as far back as 6,000+ years ago in almost every civilization that you can think of. Even in modern day tribes women will use some form of clay as make up or body paint; it's been ingrained into our minds that make-up makes us feel beautiful.

So no, I don't think it's deceitful at all. I think it's a work of art. Art, for the most part, is very appealing to the eye, and your face is your canvas while your make up is your paint.

Wearing make-up should be embraced and honestly I do not understand why people are starting to despise it now as it's been apart of human history for so long. Laziness is one thing that I completely understand as I, too, am lazy with it. If I'm not going out to some sort of social gathering, I'm more than likely not wearing makeup. However, with that being said, make-up is more like a tradition now for humans versus a thing to just simply hide your face behind. And tons of women, including myself, receives a self-esteem boost when we wear it. Why take away from something that makes more than 82% of the female population feel great?

Makeup is just appealing. Nothing more, nothing less.

And lets face it, if a person is only going after you because of what you wear (or don't wear, for that matter), then should you really be with them in the first place? Probably not!

I honestly do not see what the problem is with make-up. I use it simply if I'm going out to dinner with a friend or a boyfriend. Maybe some people use it to show they care how their appearance is. Some people don't use it. I could care less; make-up shouldn't be shamed upon because there literally is nothing wrong with it. If we've used it for 6,000+ years, who are you to believe no one should use it because it is unnatural?

I have somewhat mixed feelings about makeup.

I see it as a medium of artistic and self expression in many ways, and I'm a believer that people should always use mediums of expression that they are comfortable with (in this sort of situation), man, woman, or gender neutral. Something as simple as makeup being appealing is primal, as @[member="Reckless"] pointed out. It accentuates one's features and makes the wearer tend to feel more comfortable in their own skin. The only downside is the tendency for it to rub off or get runny in situations, which is counterproductive :o

My mixed feelings stem from the idea that makeup is the ONLY thing that makes a person aesthetically pleasing. No matter who you are, you do not NEED makeup to be beautiful in your own right. I remember I actually cried when I saw my girlfriend without makeup for the first time since she doesn't show that part of her to many people. Of course, I still thought she was beautiful (more so than when she wears makeup :D)

I don't wear a lot of make-up. Only when I'm on stage or when I'm dressing up.
Personally, I just don't care much about my apperance. which is probably why I don't have a boyfriend.

I dont care if someone wears makeup. If you feel, that you wanna use it, go ahead. You are wearing it for your own comfort.
And its also artistic. Some people put a lot of effort for their daily makeup and it looks good.

It can be annoying in some cases. For example if someone wears a kilo of makeup. But that is not hating makeup. Just the usage of it.

I dont typically care about make up. Whenever you go somewhere important, make up can enhance your appearance.
People (like me) sometimes dont use make up because they are not in a special case or just lazy.
A good example what make up can do :)

I wear makeup to make myself feel better about my appearance, not really for other people. I like the way I look with makeup on, but I don't think there's anything wrong with girls that don't wear makeup. I think men should be able to wear makeup if they wanted too, the only reason it's not socially accpetable now is because it's been considered a 'feminine' thing. If it makes you feel better, wear it

I've wanted to use makeup for awhile, honestly. I love the idea of being able to create the look you want and not having to settle for what your genes gave you. Sadly, my parents don't approve, so I haven't gotten the chance.

But I honestly think people can do what they want with makeup. Wear some natural makeup, wear loud, bold colors, use that red lip classic thing that he likes, or wear it for yourself. In my opinion, makeup should be worn to make you feel better about yourself. But that doesn't mean you can't wear something because your partner likes it, just as long as you also like it, and they're not making you wear it.

I'm not a big fan of makeup. If given the choice, I'd rather not wear it as I find it rather troublesome and restrictive. I'm a low-maintenance kind of person and prefer going au natural, unless the situation demands that I wear makeup such as weddings or formal functions. I guess I'm just confident enough about showing off my natural looks. However, I do think that makeup, if done properly, can look really beautiful and can enhance a person's facial features. That includes myself haha.

In the perspective of me, I don't wear make up. I know that make-up, is not needed, but preferable in when you want to look good infront of others.
I don't do make up though, I never did and I can't do it xD

I love makeup It so fun and with a bit of practice you can do some incredible things. In my high school drama class we did a bit on stage make up that also covered normal makeup us. I'm gonna share what I learned.

Normal or Street makeup is what you would put on to just go out in public and it should be a lot lighter that stage makeup.I learned many people don't realize that they are using too much make up in the sense that they can get the same effect or a better effect with less make up/ less heavy makeup.

As far as Stage makeup goes there are two types I don't really recall the names but one type is designed to make a person look normal on stage . When you are on stage, or certain older less high quality film, the lighting and distance from the audience can cause a person to look strange, washed out and featureless. when anyone is on stage for a performance they need at least a little makeup women need foundation and to have their eyes lined with brown or black liner and some lip color, men need their eyes partially lined with brown eyeliner and foundation. These are the minimum to look normal on stage. under this type also falls, makeup to alter a person so they look, another race, older, younger any changes to their appearance that isn't a change to something other than human/isn't fantastical.

The last type is basically for making a person look not human. I made my friend into a tropical bird with a nose and all when we practiced this one. The makeup is special and really heavy and can clog pores easily.

I really think all people shoul take a breif makeup course not as mandatory but you learn so much and I think it might help with all the backlash makeup has been getting.

the only makeup i use is nail polish and mascara
i personally think its silly that a lot of people are like: i am not leaving the house without makeup on
i mean, common, how insecure can you be
there is no need for that..... so what if somebody doesn't think you pretty or something
    SO WHAT
why care so much what others think of you
    live your life
i do think makeup can look pretty and fancy and all that but another reason i don't do it it is because its a waste of time
like my naked face ain't good enough for this world? oh please
i am not going to spend an hour or whatever on makeup every morning, dear god no

Do you put makeup on? How much do you put on? What do you normally put on? How long does it take you? Where do you put makeup on?

On the flipside, are you against putting makeup on? Why is that? Do you not like other people with makeup, or are they fine?

tbh, i dislike makeup. attractiveness is entirely subjective, so really, i don't think one can have a definitively ugly or beautiful face. all makeup does in my eyes is augment your appearance, and a lot of the time, make you look worse.
that being said, if it makes you feel better about yourself then i'm all for it. hell, in small amounts i really don't think it detracts from your appearance. but i think wearing a LOT of makeup just looks really ugly.

Makeup is great to an extent. I like makeup for the fact that it helps improve how you look. The problem I have with it is that many girls with low self-esteem use it to hide their true face to the point that you wouldn't be able to recognize them on the street. Dependency on makeup overall just bothers me. I feel like you should be comfortable in your own skin.

Also, "Using too much product on your skin will eventually further the wrinkles, lines and spots you are attempting to conceal, ultimately making you look older than you actually are!"

I have a mixed view on it. For instance, I think a lot of people look better with it. After all, it draws attention to the places the individual does want attention drawn to, and away from places attention is not wanted. But the longer I look, the more it seems... off. I then try to remove the makeup with my imagination and I'm often displeased with what I see, visually speaking. Thin lips, something unusual about the eyes, acne bumps whose red was covered by paint. And then, after that? I feel lied to. I thought you looked like this, but you actually look like this? I've known you for months and never even knew what you look like! And don't even get me started on hair-coloring. I can honestly tell you that I'm not certain of the hair color of a single white woman I know. Is it black under the blonde? Brown under the red? Gray under the black? I have no idea, and it seems like such a basic trait to a person.

One thing I absolutely dislike, not even mixed-view, is totally overt makeup choices. Like the point where it's almost getting to look like clown makeup. Eyeliner that reaches half an inch toward the ear (or is a white-like color), lipstick that's cotton-candy hot pink, blue/green/purple eyeshadow. I just go kind of "eww, are you human under that, or are you an alien following misguided advice on how to look human?". Acne and a weird natural lip color look better than that, at least to me.

As for myself wearing makeup, I don't do it, at all. I've only face-painted once, and was white and black to look like a skeleton, and it felt weird having that substance on my face for those few hours. From Nikki Minaj to Gene Simmons, I don't know how people wear facepaint all day.

I wear makeup on the occasion. I honestly just like to make myself feel more attractive. It's not about anyone else, it's about me. And that's how it goes for most people who wear makeup, I feel. Sure, some people will wear makeup in order to cover their flaws for a person they like, but for most people, I feel like they don't wear blue eyeshadow and get that cat-eye perfect for a crush. Not to mention, do you know how much effort goes into putting on contour? It's a lot of work! You'd have to be really lovesick to fashion a new face for someone who might not even feel the same way.

I'm a tomboy and I honestly hate makeup....well, I hate beauty makeup (blush, mascara, eye shadow, etc.) but I will wear Halloween horror makeup. Halloween is the only time I will wear makeup. I'm awful at applying beauty makeup, but I'm amazing at putting on horror makeup
