I'm not much into comic books, not really my thing. But, I do like Marvel over DC. I think this is the unpopular one, but I'm not sure. It'd be middle for me if it weren't for the Merc with a Mouth himself, Deadpool.

I grew up reading Marvel, so at one point I would have chosen them.

Then around the time of the New 52 I switched to being more of a DC reader.

Right now, though, they're about equal in my mind; they both have books I really enjoy (DC has Batwoman and Wonder Woman while Marvel has X-Men and Young Avengers).

I grew up reading both but I absolutely love DC. All of the heroes were created so well and have great characteristics.

For tv shows; DC. Marvel's had some good stuff here and there, but nothing on the level of the DCAU, TT, YJ, etc.

For comic books; Marvel. Aside from the fact that I've got every issue of Fantastic Four since the late 90's and am still following FF, DC's been pulling a galling number of stupid moves lately (canceling Batwoman's Wedding, the finale for "Death of the Family", the Harley Quinn Naked Suicide Contest, never mind the immense clusterf*** that was "New 52".)

For movies; years ago I might've said DC, but now it's Marvel. To compare:

    DC:

    Batman Begins - Great
    The Dark Knight - Meh
The Dark Knight Rises - Bad
    Batman - Good
    Batman Returns - Meh
    Batman Forever - Bad
    Batman and Robin - Bad

    Superman - Good
    Superman II - Great
    Superman Returns - Meh
    Superman III - Bad
    Superman IV - Bad
    Man of Steel - Great

    Green Lantern - Bad

    Catwoman - Bad

    39% bad, 23% meh, 15% good, 23% great.

    For Marvel:

    Iron Man - Great
    Iron Man II - Meh
    Iron Man III - Meh
    Thor - Great
Captain America: The First Avenger - Good
    The Avengers - Great
    Hulk - Bad
    The Incredible Hulk - Good

    Spider-Man - Good
    Spider-Man II - Great
    Spider-Man III - Bad
    The Amazing Spider-Man - Good

    Punisher - Meh
    Punisher: War Zone - Meh

    Fantastic Four - Bad
Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer - Bad

    Daredevil - Meh
    Elektra - Bad

    X-Men - Good
    X2: X-Men United - Great
    X3 - Bad
    X-Men Origins: Wolverine - Bad
    X-Men: First Class - Meh
    The Wolverine - Good

    29% bad, 21% meh, 29% good, 21% great

So to line up side by side:

    Marvel DC
    Bad 29% 39% WINNER: MARVEL
    Meh 21% 23% WINNER: MARVEL
    Good 29% 15% WINNER: MARVEL
    Great 21% 23% WINNER: DC

    Furthermore, there are some things to consider;

-A fair number of DC's bad movies were back when Marvel offered practically no competition whatsoever. They didn't have to try all that hard.

-DC's movies are pretty much all WB. Marvel's are distributed across their own studios, FOX, Sony, etc. Eggs, one basket, etc.

-At the same time, Marvel's had considerably greater success with their franchises. They're about to release a movie with a talking raccoon that carries automatic weapons and a tree whose entire speech consists of "I AM GROOT". They've succeeded with their A-listers and some B-listers in a surprisingly short stretch of time and are confidently working on putting their C-Listers on the big screen. DC still can't get a movie for Wonder Woman or the Flash off the ground.

I prefer Marvel but DC has some really great characters that I enjoy too. My favourite Marvel superhero would have to be Iron Man. Almost everything about his character appeals to me. But then you have Batman/Bruce Wayne, who is comparable with Iron Man/Tony Stark, both ridiculously rich, playboys that each have their fair share of issues. None of that really answers the question but even though I prefer Marvel, I think they are basically tied success wise. I wish I had a comic book selection but unfortunately I've been unable to find a local store that sells them. Maybe I might change my opinion if I were to read a few of each.

I absolutely love Marvel! Well, old-school marvel, anyway. There's only a sparten few post-2000 Marvel series that I've really enjoyed, but everything before that has been a thriller! As for DC, I'm more into their animation stuff. Batman Beyond & Static Shock were two big faves of mine. I've been keeping tabs on Batman Beyond's revived stuff but it's a damn pitty that Static Shock's New 52 title got canned...
