This is the thread that talks about Mega Evolution in general. Favorites, least favorites, opinions...to start off, anyone else a little peeved at the amount of new Dragon-type evolutions? Altaria, Salamence, etc. Please, I'm sure there are people out there who want to talk about something like this. Please, everyone, jump in as pleased! And have fun with it!

Mega Evolutions annoy me now. It seems like everyone will expect every Pokémon to get one (Example ORAS). Sooner or later we'll have Megas for every Pokémon and it will just be bleh.. If I had to choose a favourite, it'd be Mega Charizard X, least favourite being Mega Diancie. Dragon type Megas are getting annoying as well..

I'm a bit neutral with the whole thing.
In one respect, they add something to the game, but in another, I find them a bit unnecessary.
I get annoyed with people who expect mega-evolutions for their favorite Pokémon. Clearly, mega-evolutions are for more battle-centered Pokémon. It wouldn't make much sense if we had a mega-evolution for a Pokémon like Glaceon, would it?
There's a specific evolution I want to talk about as well - The mega evolutions for Latios and Latias. I find the original models more aesthetically pleasing than their mega-evolutions. The only reason they even have megas is to nerf the Soul Dew, which boosts Sp Atk and Sp Def by 50% for both Pokémon. I think the nerf was necessary, but I don't support the way Game Freak decided to do it.
I don't care much for the huge amount of dragon-type megas either, being more of an ice type trainer and all.

Mega Evolution, to me, is just a new way to play. You don't specifically need a Mega to kick butt, but it's there.

Personally, the one thing that irks me about it (aside from Pokémon like Mewtwo getting it) is the designs look really weird, like they just stuck new pointy things on the old Pokémon and called it a day. There are some that look rather aesthetically pleasing, but very few. Even Mega Mawile, my main Mega, sometimes looks rather stupid to me.

I think most of the Mega Evolutions from X and Y are phenomenal. However, OR/AS are definitely full to the brim with really weird megas. In some ways I think it's pretty great, because we get off-the-wall stuff like Slowbro and Camerupt rather than a steady stream of 'cool' Pokémon like the Mega Charizards and Mawile. However, that means we also get Audino and friggin' Sharpedo, the former of which just didn't do anything for me and the latter of which is just... ugly, really.
I agree that we might actually have too many Dragon-type Mega Evolutions, but I will not be done with them until we get Mega Flygon. If they give Salamence (which was good already) a Mega, and they give Altaria (which needed one to be good) a Mega, then by golly they need to give Flygon one so it can stop living in Garchomp's shadow. Leaving Flygon as it is would be almost as bad as leaving Rayquaza out of the Primal Reversion deal... which they're definitely not gonna do.
As for the quantity of Mega Evolutions in general - even with the buttload of Megas OR/AS seems intent on throwing at us, they still make up a mere fraction of the other seven-hundred-something Pokémon. However, if they keep this pace up, we may have a few too many by mid-Gen VII.

Also, I have to disagree with this:

If I recall, Mega Evolution was originally marketed as a way for ordinary Pokémon to suddenly become equal to stuff like Latios and Heatran. Now, in many ways that didn't quite happen, and Pokémon that were already great got Mega Evolutions (Garchomp*, Blaziken, Gyarados, Scizor**), but we also got Mega Charizard(s), Mega Mawile, Mega Ampharos, Mega Pinsir, Mega Kangaskhan (!), Mega Houndoom, and so on. Now, you could argue that with the exception of Ampharos and potentially Gardevoir (and now Altaria, Lopunny and Audino) no 'cute' Pokémon got Mega Evolutions, but unless I'm misunderstanding your argument that's not the point. The point is, Mawile was objectively bad before Generation VI, and Glaceon isn't amazing either. As such, Glaceon is exactly the kind of Pokémon that would get a Mega Evolution.

*Well, that was a step backward, but still.
**Hasn't been seen much at all in the current VGC season, but it was everywhere last year.

Gotta say, I have to agree with you on that. Take Mega Salamence for example. Now it just looks like a fighter jet version of the old Pokémon. And Altaria, too. Just...fluff everywhere. Some of the designs are just idiotic, but Mega Lopunny, to me, actually works, what with them trimming it to accentuate the fact that it's more battle-worthy with it's new ability, Scrappy. Also, Mega Gallade...the jury's still out on that, but this means that Ralts is the first evolution chain to have all top forms with a Mega Evolution. I'm not complaining about that, mind you, but one has to wonder if anything like that's going to follow, like Mega Poliwrath and Mega Politoed...

I'm looking forward to the Mega Eeveelutions. If my Vaporeonite becomes canon, they'll pretty much have to give a Mega to all of them, too...
Actually, I'm both intrigued and concerned.

A Mega for all 8 Eeveelutions? Truly, I like the idea, but...that, to a degree, would be overkill. Eight Pokémon, all different types, all with Mega Evolutions...somehow, I predict a major power shift if that were to happen, and that's the last thing the franchise needs.

The exact reason I'm concerned. Half of me wants to laugh when they introduce a Mega Vaporeon, because I'm already using one, but the other half of me knows Mega Flareon and Jolteon, at the least, and Mega Espeon, Umbreon, Leafeon, Glaceon and Sylveon will have to follow if that is actually a thing.

Then again, I'm making up at least 18 Megas for a tournament idea. I don't think all of those Megas will eventually exist (looking at you, Mega Dedenne).

I think Mega Crawdaunt would be an amazing edition to Pokémon i would give it the ability speed boost because crawdaunt it self is a powerful Pokémon as it is but it needs like 1 to 2 turns to actually have some competitive potential so giving it speed boost would make it getting a swords dance off much easier and maybe make it a speedy physical sweeper :D

I think the idea of mega evolution is amazing. People have always wanted some sort of fourth evolution to their favorite Pokémon and mega evolution fulfills that wish. All though its sad a lot of Pokémon that have no normal evolutions or complete evolution lines get megas.

My favorite mega is probably Mega Salamence. Although it hasn't been released, I know its going to be beastly.

Mega Evolution is one of the greatest and most revolutionary things that have ever been added to the Pokémon series. For the past five generations, we were all convinced that a Pokémon could have at most three stages. But now that Mega Evolution exists, this is no longer true. A special form of evolution, requiring a strong bond with the trainer, as well as an extremely rare Mega Stone, that is not even permanent! These Mega's are truly the ultimate form of a Pokémon, which is simply amazing!

The requirements are easy as well: Each Pokémon, capable of Mega Evolving, needs to hold a corresponding Mega Stone in order to reach this form. The trainer also needs to carry a Key Stone. And that's all there is to it! I mean come on, there are regular evolutions that are more complicated as that (seriously, holding your 3DS upside-down? Who came up with that?)

Of course, there are a few issues with these Mega Evolutions, which are becoming more apparent with the approach of the Hoenn remakes. The major complaint is that there are too many Mega Evolutions, and they are given to seemingly random Pokémon. And, to some degree, I can agree with that. But look at what I said earlier, about Mega Evolution literally being the ultimate form of a Pokémon. Why should one Pokémon be capable of reaching that form, but another one not? I think any Pokémon should be able to Mega Evolve, no matter what it is.

People say that if they keep adding new Mega Evolutions as they are doing now, it will lose its charm. But right now, almost every Pokémon can evolve normally, right? Does that mean that normal evolution has lost its charm? Not if you ask me. Even when every single Pokémon is able to Mega Evolve, it will still be special. But hey, that's just my opinion, feel free to disagree!

Overall, Mega evolution is a great thing. We NEEDED something new and fresh like this to mix the games up a bit and I'm really glad they did it. Gen 6 was a really special gen so to see so many mega evolutions is really nice. I can't wait for the mega evolutions coming in OR/AS.

I really like Mega Evolution, and I honestly don't think anyone was expecting it when XY was announced. I'm really glad that they tried something new like that, because personally, I really like how Mega Evolution was executed, at least gameplay-wise. Story-wise, we still haven't learned much about it, but hopefully that will change in ORAS, at least somewhat.

I do really enjoy using Mega Pokémon on my teams, especially Pokémon that I haven't used before. I never used a Pinsir up until it got a Mega, and I have to say, it's awesome. Megas are there to give some Pokémon a necessary boost, in stats and possibly typing/ability as well. Sure, some Pokémon like Metagross and Salamence didn't really need a Mega, but they are still very much useable even without their Mega forms. You don't need a Mega on your team in order to win, anyway.

My personal favorite so far is Mega Rayquaza, because personally, they improved my favorite Pokémon to a degree that I thought impossible. I love its design so much, I really can't wait to use it in ORAS!

Now, I agree with Deltheor and the others about Mega Evolution spicing up the games, but...it might just be me, but it seems to me like Mega Beedril is crossing the line. Beedril, to me, is far too common and kinda weak for a Mega Evolution, but if anyone wants to prove me wrong, please do so with ample proof.

Well M-Beedrill now gets the ability which increases STAB to 2x. Think about Adaptability boosted U-Turn/X-Scissor/Fell Stinger and Poison Jab! Plus it gets Knock Off, Brick Break and Swords dance as well. It's guaranteed Beedrill gets an attack boost. If it gets some speed stat increase as well it will be a beast in OU/UU.

When Mega Evolution was first released, I actually really didn't like it. It felt like they were trying too hard to have something different and new. It felt quite desperate. I also was not a fan of most designs. It just all felt really overwhelming and like Pokémon was losing its charm.

But after I got X&Y and played with them, it seemed a lot more natural. I grew to like some of the designs (though some of them still really bother me), and they felt like a fun feature that was there if you wanted to use it, not something that was forced down your throat.

These days, I get excited over Mega Evolution. I assume every fully evolved Pokémon will get one eventually, and I'm okay with that. It has helped some Pokémon who were just kind of useless before, such as Mawile, actually shine and find their own niche.

The only thing that may upset me about Mega Evolutions currently is designs. Some designs, like Mega Aerodactyl, Mega Swampert, and Mega Slowbro, have really bugged me. But, they can't make designs that everyone's going to like, so it's alright. ^_^ I'm excited to see the designs for the future!

    Also, on the conversation of Mega Evolutions for the Eeveelutions... I've heard some people say it would be cool if Eevee itself got a Mega Evolution. Just Eevee. Since it can already evolve in so many ways, what if it had a Mega Evolution as well? Haha, that'd be something. I'm convinced though, that we'll just get Mega Evolutions for each Eeveelution (besides Eevee) eventually. I really hope they have nice designs, I'd be more sad about disappointing Eeveelution Mega Evolutions than any other Mega Evolution. ;.;

I agree with Pixil, I wasn't exactly a fan when it was introduced.

I like it a lot now, though! It was an interesting feature that twisted both the normal game and the competitive metagame. It's fun, and something new that was probably needed.

I think there will come a point when there will be too many megas, but for now I think they're alright. c:
