"I keep telling myself that I need to get a Ride Chaser and yet somehow I never get around to it." Blade muttered to himself as he ran though the streets towards his destination. "Why am I even doing this? I'm retired, aren't I?"

 

Blade turned around a corner into an alleyway and ran right into another reploid and they both crashed onto the ground.
"Hey, watch where you're going!" The other reploid shouted angrily as they both got back up.
"Sorry about that." Blade replied. "But wasn't this section of the city supposed to be evacuated?"
"I, um..." The reploid hesitated. "I was, ah, powered down to conserve energy when the evacuation notice came. Yeah. I was just leaving now."
Blade sighed and ignited his sword. "You really need to work on your lying."
"What, no! I'm not lying!"
"Look, I've been hunting mavericks for a very long time. Don't think that I can't tell one when I see one. Especially when you do such a bad job of hiding it. I mean, you have Sigma's emblem painted on your shoulder, for crying out loud! I didn't think there was anyone out there stupid enough to wear that old thing."
The maverick's face turned to an expression of outrage and he charged up to blade. Blade reacted slicing cleanly in two.
"It's hard to believe that even after all of this time, there are still fanatics like that running around. Now, what was I doing? Oh, right, the mission."

 

Blade crouched down and peered around the side of the building he was next to. He found a large, spider-like mechaniloid slowly making its way through the street in his direction.
"So that's my target." Blade said to himself as he ducked back behind the corner so that it wouldn't spot him. "It's bigger than I expected."
Blade looked up and spotted a fire escape on the side of the building. He jumped up to it and pulled himself onto the lowest platform, then ran up the metal staircase to the next level and then the next. He managed to make his way to the top relatively quickly, though not as fast as he would have in his prime, and climbed up the side of the wall to the roof of the building. From there, Blade looked down at the blue mechaniloid that was still slowly walking down the street and waited for it to reach him. When it finally did, he jumped off of the roof top and ignited his energy sword.
He landed on the mechaniloid, stabbing through its outer armor with enough force to send the whole thing crashing into the pavement. He then proceeded to hack and slash at the mechaniloid until he had made a large enough opening to crawl inside the mechanaloid and destroy it from the inside out.

 

Blade slashed his way back out of the spider mechaniloid once he had decided that its internal working had been sufficiently mutilated to the point where there was no chance it could be reactivated.
"Well, that's one less maverick to worry about." He said. "Guess I should probably head back now and see what my next assignment is."

 

Blade made his way out the city, passing by the team that had been sent in to clean up the mess he left behind.
"I managed to keep the damages to a minimum this time." He told them. "All you should need to do is clean up a couple scrapheaps that used to be mavericks. The target on is sprawled out in the street, which should be easy enough to tow out of here. There was also a reploid I took out in an alleyway. I'll let you find the remains on your own. Oh, and I suppose you're probably going to want to repave the road as well, that mechaniloid wasn't exactly treading lightly."
"Yes, sir." The head of the cleaning team said, his tone of voice showing his displeasure with Blade's attitude.
"I guess it's back to base for me. See you guys next time."

 

Blade walked into an old rundown shack on the outskirts of the city. He stepped up onto a raised platform in the center of the room and waited as the Transerver activated around him. Once it was ready, he entered in the coordinates for where he was going and hit the teleport button.

 

Blade walked out of the Transerver room and was met by an angry looking female Reploid who was standing with her arms folded.
"You forgot your comm again." She said.
"Yeah, sorry about that, Bleu." Blade laughed weakly.
"Whatever." Bleu sighed. "Just give me your report and make sure you remember next time. The commander already has another mission for you."
"Of course she does." Blade shrugged. "Let's get this over quickly, then."

 

"...and that's when I returned back here." Blade finished.
Bleu lowered the tablet she was entering in his report.
"Alright then." Bleu shoved something into Blade's hands and stared at him intently.
Blade looked at the object, which he recognized as a his old headset, and smiled as he reinstalled it in his helmet.
"You really want to make sure I have this thing, don't you." Blade smirked. "So, are we still up for dinner?"
Bleu's posture stiffened and they stood in silence for a moment.
"Yes." Bleu said sheepishly and turned to walk away, clearly flustered. Blade watched her as she walked away until she turned around a corner and out of sight.
"Ah, were it not for this never ending war of men and machines, that we might have but a moment of peaceful respite to share." Blade said in a mock-poetic tone. He then turned around and headed off in the opposite direction.
"You do know that your comm is turned on, right?" Bleu's voice sounded in his head.
"This is why I normally leave this stupid thing behind." Blade said playfully.
"I heard that!"
"I know."
There was silence for a moment and then Blade heard a click as Bleu turned off their audio connection. Blade smiled and continued walking.
"My sapphire rose." He muttered to himself now that he was sure she wasn't listening. "You are the reason that I still fight."

 

Blade walked into the command room just as a purple reploid was leaving. He recognized him as a fellow Maverick Hunter, but not one he had worked with before or knew very well.
"Ah, Blade Hominini, there you are." Commander Signas said as he saw Blade. "I was expecting you half an hour ago."
"You know I hate being called that. Blade will do." Blade sighed. "You also seem to overestimate how fast I can take care of a maverick that big. I suppose I should be flattered. Anyway, I was told you have another mission for me. What is it?"
"Straight to the point. That's what I like about you. I wanted you to investigate some reports of maverick activity in an old weapons factory. However, because you took so long getting back from your last mission I decided to send another Maverick Hunter instead. If he doesn't report back in, then I'll send you in after him. Otherwise, you can go ahead and take the rest of the day off."
"Sounds good to me. See you tomorrow then, Commander." Blade turned and left the room. As he made his way down the corridor, he noticed that his knee was starting to click again. "I suppose I should probably go get this thing checked out."

 

Blade walked out of the base and made his way towards the repair center so to get his leg checked out. The longer he walked, the harder it became to think about anything other than the clicking noise in his knee the more irritated he became. His attention was suddenly pulled away from that, however, when he heard an explosion in the distance. The civilians around him began to panic, but he ignored them as he took off running in the direction the sound had come from.
