Memory Cards have been with us for a very long time, dating all the way back when we moved on to discs in gaming. Before memory cards, game either had no way of actually saving, or had a password system, making it so players had to type in a password to get back to the original starting point they were at. Memory cards were sometimes a nuisance, cause who wasn't upset when they bought their gamecube or PS1 only to see a message on their game and tv screen that says "No Memory Card inserted, your games cannot be saved." I remember this happened to me when I bought my first Gamecube and boy was it frustrating to have no memory card for almost an entire week. Memory cards sort of exist today, but currently are still required in most handheld consoles today. The 3DS is one example, and same goes for the Ps Vita, both requiring a Memory card (Well in this case an SD card). What are your thoughts on memory cards? Do you miss them? Glad they are gone? Do you feel they were a cool way to take your save files to a friends house to show off your best scores? Do you still have your old Memory cards? If you had a Memory card, what console did you specifically have it for?

My biggest problem with my Gamecube is the lack of space on my memory cards. In order to play really good games such as Animal Crossing and Gale of Darkness, I need to clear a ton of Memory Card space. I'm not interested in buying another one, so that's what I'm stuck with doing. I'm glad that they are mostly gone and I won't miss them when they leave permanently (hopefully)

I still remember having to buy 5 different memory cards to manage save files on. Those were the days.

They're not necessarily "gone", they're called "SD Cards" now. For the most part though; yes, I am glad they are gone. They were terrible, and felt like a step back in gaming history when it was required you had a card to save your games. I remember being extremely upset when I first bought my GCN, only to find out it didn't come with a memory card, therefore I couldn't save my games. Now that most system these days do come with memory cards (AKA SD Cards), I don't have a problem with it. Not including a memory card(s) with the system back then was a poor marketing decision.

I recently went out and bought a brand new memory card for my Gamecube for the first time in a long while; our original memory card from the early 2000's is full, and a 4x third-party one that we had is corrupted and can't save files anymore. I had no choice, since without a new card I couldn't play or save half of my games. Despite the inconveniences that come with memory card data storage, though, I did always like the upside to it; if you misplaced or broke your game, you could buy a replacement and not have to worry about getting all of your game data back afterwards. I didn't mind having to keep multiple cards around for my save data, though the fact that some games eat up a ton of blocks by themselves was probably a bigger nuisance than anything else; I've had to delete a lot of my old saves just to make room for new games, with Pokémon Channel being one of the games I can't play anymore because of how much space it takes up.

To be perfectly honest, I don't see why memory cards don't still exist on most big non-handhelds. I mean, Sony sure does have a way to grab my cash with the Vita's cards, and it'd just be like farming cash if the Xbox One required them. I mean, I'm most certainly not for them, and I'm glad their dead.

I still have my memory cards on my gamecube and my PS2~ Every other memory card I used to have is lost.
I think it's better to have memory in the system, rather me going out of my way to pay 20 dollars for a memory card.
