The third Pokémon movie in the alternate continuity, following on from last year's I Choose You! and this year's The Power of Us, has been announced for a July 12th, 2019 release date in Japan! Titled Mewtwo Strikes Back EVOLUTION, little is known about it at this time other than that it is a clear callback to the first Pokémon Movie - released July 18th, 1998 in Japan, making this a 21st Anniversary celebration of sorts! - and will be directed by Kunihiko Yuyama & Motonori Sakakibara, with screenplay by Takeshi Shudo. Source How do you feel about this revelation? Will you be watching this when it airs in the West?
I want to think it will be a re-imagining or retelling, but I'm scared they will just rehash the first movie over again.
Oh how I hope this is a good movie. They have such potential with Mewtwo to be used as a retelling of Frankenstein's Monster or as a tale of science/man becoming stronger than gods. I'm kind of fearful, though. They have three options for how to make this move: standard Pokémon Anime, Pokémon Origins/Generations (slightly grittier), or Pokémon LGPE (slightly kiddier). I don't want to see the LGPE version of this movie, I think that would just ruin the potential of Mewtwo's tragedy. I could survive with standard Pokémon Anime flavor, but a feature film the style of Pokémon Generations could be delightful.
Meh, probably won't be seeing this one. I"ve lost complete interest in the Pokémon movies and the anime in general. Besides, I wasn't a massive fan of Mewtwo Strikes Back, so a movie based around it doesn't appeal to me in the slightest.
Ooh! Sounds cool! Since I've seen the other two it seems perfect *Starts thinking about possibly taking her boyfriend with her to see it when it comes out*
Not sure what to think of another Mewtwo based movie since the last one with Genesect was... interesting. I'm super curious as to what they'll do with the voice acting though.
