Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate: Tips & Tricks
    • Hold R while mounting a monster to grab on tightly. This is vital for when the monster starts bucking or roaring (if you don't have the Earplugs/Rock Steady skill).
    • Useless talismans cluttering up your box? Once you reach Cathar, you can hire someone to 'meld' talismans and create brand new ones. This becomes extremely useful as you progress.
    • Using a sonic bomb on a monster underground, if done correctly, will force it above ground and render it in a helpless state for a brief amount of time.
    • Due to its blindness, Khezu is not affected by flash bombs. This is also why music does not play during its fight - the music starts when the monster sees you, and Khezu can't see you.
      - Gore Magala is not blind; however, it has very poor eyesight.
    • Need to do quests to progress your palicoes, duplicate items, or cycle shop products? Doing the 1* caravan's 'Steak Your Ground' quest is the most efficient way to do this. Upon completion, you get a well done steak, which you can re-use and repeat as many times as desired. This is particularly useful for getting the Wycoon to sell the right kind of nectar.
    • Rolling into a climbable surface with your weapon out while spamming A will allow you to climb the wall.
    • Eating a nullberry will not get rid of the frenzy virus; however, it will reduce the progress of the virus bar by 50% (of the bar's total, not where you're currently at).
    • Flash bombing a flying monster will knock it out of the air. This is very useful for Rathian and Rathalos.
    • Insect Glaive users: In most cases, the head of a monster will provide red essence, the legs and/or wings white, and the body/tail orange.
    • Energy Drinks are an easy to make alternative to steaks (the materials can be duplicated through the Wyporium). They are essentially craft-able rations that will stop you from falling asleep.
    • Gypceros is immune to shock traps due to its rubber hide.
    • Zinogre eats the electricity from shock traps and gains one charge from getting caught when not enraged
      - When enraged, Zinogre is immune to shock traps and will destroy them when passing through.
Please post any tips you have here! Anything particularly useful will be edited into the main post.

Insect Glaive triple ups give you regular Earplugs.
You can also get rid of the frenzy virus by attacking small monsters.
You can start climbing a wall with your weapon out by rolling (if you can roll with your weapon) into it and spamming A until you grab on, if you continue to spam A, though, you will jump off of the wall.
IG users can get juices from dead monsters. You can also remove the frenzy virus this way and charge up the Charge Blade like this.
If you see a balloon in the sky, look at it and use the gestures to wave at it, and the monster you are hunting will show on the map for a little bit.
In Primal Forest, at the base camp, if you turn around from the spawn and go into the little side area, there is a shortcut to Area 3.
In the Dunes at Night, there is a shortcut from Area 3 to Area 11, you have to jump on the palm trees and jump on the one closest to the frozen water, there should be a little ledge, point your camera at it, press up on the circle pad and then press A to jump towards it.
