As you probably already know, Nintendo is releasing a mini nes console with their classic games built in. They apparently have a VERY limited number (only 6 at the gamestop closest to me). Is anyone planning on getting one? Any games you hope will be on it?
I really want to get one, but I don't think I'd play it that much and I know $60 isn't that bad on top of the games it comes with, but I really don't know lol.
It is a bit pricey for me and I can not find it in me to buy it when I can get some classic games for a few bucks each on the DS. I think it is a cool idea, but really collector ideal, not for real use.
This is exactly what it is. The Mini NES is a product designed to appeal to a niche market. The segment is small, but enough to be noticeable and profitable for Nintendo, so that's why they made the system. Said niche is also probably old enough to remember the NES and remember the feel of the console as well, though that may mean a handful will have kept their NESs - but that doesn't mean much, as people who keep their older systems tend to preserve them, not play them. It certainly isn't for the game selection, that much is sure. All of them are available via the 3DS and Wii U Virtual Console anyway, so it's not like it has any exclusive titles. It's just for the sake of the platform, and also a bit of 'kitschy nerd cred' to go along with it. To answer the question directly, I have no intent of acquiring one of these. In addition to my not even knowing where it's sold nearby me, it would be both inconvenient and impractical. I'd have no place to play it or hook it up to anything (I game on handhelds exclusively), and the games that come with it I can acquire elsewhere - but even then, none of the titles appeal to me anyway. As I said...it is sold to and targeted towards a niche market. I am simply not part of the niche.
Interesting..! And yup Eclipse, you're spot on, it very much is a niche. I'm hoping to get one because I tend to like retro games, I'm not someone who's picky on graphics or anything. Plus! It's very cute! It would be really cool to own a piece of Nintendo's history, I think.
