We all have our favorite Pokémon. We all have our least favorite Pokémon. And then there are those we feel could have been good, but just didn't quite live up to their potential. This thread is to talk about that last group. What Pokémon do you think could have been better if it weren't for one or two minor problems. For me, I feel like Incinerour should have been a quadruped. We haven't had any quadrupedal fully-evolved Fire-type starter Pokémon and I find it rather annoying.
Gotta agree with you on that one. I was hoping that we could get something like a Dark/Fire sabrecat or tiger after seeing Litten's face stripes... The Incineroar we actually get looks like it was originally supposed to be a Fire/Fight but they decided to change the type in the last minute because a lot of fans are sick of the Fire/Fight trend lol I mean cmon the fella looks like a wrestler
I feel that there was a lot of injustice done on the entire Chespin line. Chespin is cute. Quilladin is...questionable. Chestnaught doesn't seem to fit. I like the 'warrior' aspect, but I think that a grassy warrior had so much going for it that never delivered. Especially with Chespin as the basic. #MissingNo
To be honest Chestnaught's design reminds me more of a bulky tank (from a MMORPG) meant to take hits, something that mon can't because of its typing, instead of a warrior that's gonna kick your butt. Quilladin's design could have been better for sure, it looks so awkward even for a middle stage evolution.
Chespin and Litten's evolutions. I don't mind Torracat so much, but Incineroar looks pretty stupid to me. Maybe I'm just biased because I really wanted a quadruped tiger-based fire starter, and Incineroar doesn't really live up to my super hopeful expectations Quilladin is just kind of creepy compared to Chespin. I was hoping Chespin's evolutions would kind of evoke some kind of grass Quilava/Typhlosion (I LOVE Cyndaquill) but they didn't.
I was really hype when they showed spritzee because a perfume based Pokémon with that face shape? I was SURE their evolution was going to be a pink ghost fairy plague doctor! The plague doctor masks are in the same shape as spritzee's face and the nose portion is filled with perfumes and potpourri because they thought the 'clean' air would fight off the plague. It would have been so awesome and would fit with the other creepy ghost Pokédex entries. Instead we got Aromatisse... I don't dislike any Pokémon but I'm very close to disliking Aromatisse because I was so disappointed.
The Fennekin line, we have cute little quadruped fox that ends up turning into yet another bipedal starter. It is the most disappointing pokémon of its gen for me because it had so much potential to be a mystic psychic fox that could have rivaled Ninetales but instead we got this....
I actually love the line as is, but I do kinda agree that I had expected a quadruple Pokémon and not Delphox as is, at the first glance. I do like the fact this is a Fire/Psychic.
I totally agree with you, I really wish they had made it not have fire symbols on the knees and a plume of ear hair looks kinda weird on a Pokémon meant to look elegant. I would have rathered a hat like Honcrow then the final look
The odd thing is, the Pokémon I have minor issue with originally had what I want now. I really like the idea of Vaporeon having fins on its limbs and back, however I do like current day Vaporeon as well.
There are a few of Alolan forms that I felt were missed opportunities, but the big one for me is Diglet/Dugtrio. I remember seeing a fan-made design where they had a volcano theme and were fire types. What do we get instead? Something that is connected to volcanoes but still feels like it was meant to be turned into a meme. I like the thought process behind it, but I still don't like the design itself.
Alolan Persian looks so awkward and bland imo. I think to embrace the dark typing it should have looked a bit more intimidating and cunning than it's regular counterpart. Spoiler I think it would look better with something more like these fanart designs
I'm not a fan of those cute electric rodents they come out with each generation. Granted they can be useful early game and all, but they all seem to be like Pikachu subspecies if you look past their defining features. My least favorite of them has to be Dedenne.
I have to be honest, I've never really cared for Steelix's design. It just isn't very appealing to the eye, and there were probably a lot of things they could've done better we it. I was pretty disappointed with Ampharos, too..
