It seems like LV is getting more people that play Monster Hunter or are at least interested, so it seemed like a good idea to post this. Most of this news is old stuff (some of it may be very old), but I will post it anyways just in case you missed it.

Alright first off, the new weapon types: the Charge Blade, which is basically a Sword and Shield AND an Axe:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IAWR6gqyIyw

and the Insect Glaive, which is a double sided blade with a little insect that helps you:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a6sHNUIEJmU

While on the topics of weapons, I might as well introduce some of the event weapons:
These are the Contest winners, the first is from NA and is a Insect Glaive, while the second one is from EU and is a Horn.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cfMQjko538w

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TuelEVDGPng

I'm not sure if the event weapons and armors from MH4 will return, but it seems likely as you can transfer over save data in the Japanese versions from MH4 to MH4U.

For some basic info on the game, it will have 88 96 monsters, more than any other Monster Hunter and that is 15 more than Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate.
For a full list of the monster going to be in the games, you can click here: http://monsterhunter.wikia.com/wiki/MH4U:_Monsters

As shown in some of the videos I posted, you can now jump and do aerial attacks, including getting on a Monster's back. Along with this feature, the upswings of certain weapons can now be used to launch a player into an aerial attack.

Another thing is the Unknown Forest, which is like the Moga Woods, except that everything about it, including the layout, location, monsters and time, being randomized.

Excavation Gear is new and it is armor that is from monsters from any game and those armors have randomized skills, slots and defense.

Finally, there is now a Wyverian who you can trade with for different monster parts of monsters that are not in the game, but the part you get depends on where you are in the game.

Also, this is for you MLP fans :P

If there is anything I missed, feel free to add.
Also, what do you think of all this stuff?

When is the exact date for EU? I can get it on the American eshop but I would prefer a copy I can use on my XL.

So far there's no date from what I can tell, it just says early 2015 for North America, Europe and Australia. I'm really looking forward to it, now if only I could get a Wii U so I could play MH3U with others instead of just solo everything.

Hm, I didn't get MH3 Ultimate, but I really enjoyed the demo, so I might buy this one!

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, the demo is nothing, however, its pretty easy, whereas the actual games get pretty fuckin hard.

I've seen some pretty cool special Nintendo themed armor sets like Link and Samus. This is really cool! I hope they include more of these but at the same time I don't want them doing overboard.

For me, I won't go on a hunt without my handy dandy whetstones (if I'm using melee weapons), or ammo & combos if I'm using bow guns. I also won't be caught without a vast array of potions.

Which do you prefer? Bowgunning/bowing or using melee weapons? I've actually developed a strong preference for bowgunning lately, especially with heavy bow guns. They hit like a truck and provide me with really nice mobility, but they do require a lot of preparation and burn through resources quickly. It's sort of a risky weapon unless you're going in a group with three other HBG users.

You really have to know the monsters movements better than a blademaster would, and if you get hit, it's a lot more damage than a blademaster takes.

    THIS UGLY BEASTIE

HAVING A NICE HUNT? NOT ANYMORE.

LONELY? CUDDLE WITH MY FUCKING HORNS.

CHILLING ACROSS THE MAP? DON'T WORRY, I'LL PUMMEL YOU FROM UNDER THE SAND.

ADMIRING MY LEGS? ADMIRE MY FUCKING TAIL INSTEAD, ASSHOLE.

ENJOYING THE SOUND OF BIRDS CHIRPING? NOT ANYMORE.

Diablos is the biggest asshole in the game, for me, followed by Plesioth, then Deviljho (nothing like killing an intruding Deviljho, though).

What's your most annoying monster to fight?

Generally I'll have Raw Meat, Paintballs, and Whetstones (as well as a Mega Pick just in case). Raw Meat for when I have to get my Stamina up. Paintballs so I can find a large monster no matter where it has hidden itself. Whetstones cause I like melee weapons and they do blunt overtime and Mega Picks let me get Whetstones while hunting.

    They are both pretty good.

Gunsmen/ marksmen/ bowmen/ archers/ snipers have the advantage of catching the enemy unaware and are able to deal great damage from a distance. However, due to pursuing targets, they focus less on their surroundings, and are vulnerable wherever they stand.

Swordsmen/ blade users/ Melee combatants can deal with direct and painful hits at a closer distance. Generally they are indeed more aware of their surroundings even though chances of them getting injured in the battlefield is considerably higher.

This aside, I have taken to a liking towards marksmen/those that deal with damage from afar. Guns are not my favourite things in the world, but stories of mounted archers definitely pique my interest. ^^

My nemesis have always been Black Gravios. THIS THING JUST WON'T DIE! I've failed to slay and capture it so many time I can no longer count them. I've managed to best it only a handful of times out of so many tries is just ridiculous. I can almost hear it taunt me just by talking about it.

I'm mainly blademaster and sometimes I pick up the bow. Gunners can really wreck a monster, some of the heavy bowguns are even bigger monsters than the monsters they blast to pieces.

Gunners are also squishier than blademaster but is not like they need that armor unless they're really unlucky and gets cornered, have tried that a few times, the monster turned me into jam each and every time.

Still I prefer blademaster over gunner since I mainly play alone so the bow can make a hunt difficult sometimes. I also have more practice with melee weapons than bows, just bows as I do not like using bowguns.

I'm a mixture, it depends on the group in hunting with for which I use.

If I'm a blademaster I don't go out on a hunt without Whetstones, paint balls, potions and steaks, often well-done if I have any.

If I'm gunner I don't leave without preparing coatings and having combo materials for more coatings that can be used by the bow I bring with me. Of course I also bring potions and steaks with me, I pretty much need twice as much food when I use the bow than when I go melee.

And OF COURSE, Black Diablos is back D:

EDIT: There will be several crossovers in this game.
For your Felyne companions (Palicos) there will be Mario & Luigi, Isabelle & Mr. Resetti (Animal Crossing: New Leaf), Mega Man, Sonic, Blanka & Chun-Li (Street Fighter II), and Dante (Devil May Cry). As far as I can tell, all but the Street Fighter, Sonic and Animal Crossing crossovers come with weapons from the series.
For your Hunter, there will be Link's Armor, aslong with the Master Sword and Hero's Bow (and one of the flutes and a boomerang, though I'm not sure if those are exclusive to that because the past games have had Boomerangs and the flute could just be a reskin of the Horn items) and Samus' suit and Zero Suit, as well as her Arm Cannon (which I assume is a Heavy BowGun, cause it doesn't look anything like a Light BowGun).
We can only hope that event weapons can upgrade to G-Rank this time around.

As for Palicos, the official MH YouTube channel put up this video about them:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IFA7Yntv7nk

    200, to be exact. (JK)

Yeah, I posted the links, but not the videos cause I didn't wanna stretch the post even more. I love how the Poogie Hunting Horn (ALL HAIL POOGIE!) makes pig sounds XD

EDIT: There was a MH event in Frankfurt where they gave out a Demo of the game. Based on how the MH3U demo was released to the public, a public demo for MH4U isn't far behind, be sure to keep an eye on the eShop if you're interested. Once it is released, however, I will post it here.

1-14-15 EDIT: Release Date for MH4U is February 13th! Also, the demo codes are out!
