Hey guys! Sometimes it can be hard to critique your own story and edit it, so you go to other people to get advice. But what happens when that advice isn’t helpful, or worse, when it doesn’t exist at all?!? Recently I was inspired by an idea (that I originally saw somewhere on reddit), which turns out to be kind of a review game. One person posts a link/snippet of their story, but they have to review the person’s story above them first in order to post their own. Essentially, it’s kind of like the feedback thread, but I think it would get more people to respond! Also, there would be some more rules: 1. Excerpts posted should be no longer than 5,000 words (it would be odd to have someone post a 3,000 word chapter asking for advice, and then have someone post their 45,000 word story!). Also, excerpts should be posted within a spoiler. 2. Critique should be helpful, mindful and specific. If you think a story is good, what makes it good? Is it the sentence structure, the flow, the word choice, the voice? 3.Everyone who posts an excerpt must first leave a helpful review of the post directly above theirs. 4. You can post more than once, but not consecutively—if you want more than one excerpt reviewed, you must wait for another user to post after you. 5. If your excerpt is taken from the middle of a story, provide some context to help clarify the situation! Would anyone else be interested in a review game thread like this? Tell me and if enough people are interested, I’ll post it in the Literature Library, since that seems like the best place to review stories!
This sounds like a very good idea. It makes people recieving feedback for their writing a lot easier.
I've been having a hard time in improving my writing because of the lack of reviews so I'll be willing to join in.
Okay, today I’ll probably create the thread in the literature library. I guess I’ll post an excerpt to start us off, and from there we can start the review game thread!
