Handhelds and controllers come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Those who create them factor in the various sizes of hands of the average consumer so that players don't end up having blisters or overall uncomfortable play. What controllers or handhelds have you used that were either comfortable or uncomfortable? What about the way its made makes it uncomfortable? Does its size or button lengths come into factor? For me, the Wii U screen controller is slightly uncomfortable, while the WiiU pro controller is shaped just right.

In my personal opinion, WiiU's the screen pad thing just does not fit into hand.
Also 2DS is just awkward to use.

Xbox 360 controller is amazing. Very ergonomic, even though it does not have a satisfying symmetry.

DualShock controllers are also good. (RIP start and select)

I agree completely with @[member="Bloom"] on the gamepad vs Wii U Pro controller. Both are pretty comfortable, but the pro controller is superior.. If only it didn't cost so dang much XD

In terms of handhelds, I've actually always felt the PSP systems have had a better grip than Nintendo handhelds.

I like all of Sony's handhelds and controllers. I've used almost all of them and I find them all really comfortable to use. I don't own an Xbox so I'm not sure, but I think their controller is pretty good too. I'm not a big fan of the Wii remote though, I find it hard to use. Nintendo's handhelds are just fine but sometimes, they make really bad decisions. I dunno if it's the same for others, but I hate the 2DS so much. It's just so weird to hold and sometimes I find my (small) hands making awkward looking positions just to press the buttons.

I will hail the Gamecube controller as the best controller until the end of time. The Gamecube controller feels just right in my hands, and all the buttons never feel too far away or awkward to reach. I can hit every button easily and exactly when I want to.

The Wii U's pro controller is the only one that I still haven't gotten a feel for; every time I've tried to play Super Smash Bros. with it, I always do things such as pressing the wrong buttons or hitting the wrong shoulder button(s) in the cases of other games. I don't mind the controller itself; it just takes an oddly long time to get used to for me, for some reason. Handheld-wise, the GBA SP recently fell into the less comfortable category, since the screen (and the system itself) is suddenly a lot smaller than I remember from when I last played it around the age of seven or so.

Most comfortable for me, though, is the Gamecube remote; its joystick isn't hard or slippery like the N64, leading to a lot less sore/blistered thumbs, and the D-pad and C-stick placements are more convenient. It makes games like Mario Party where you have to rotate your control stick a ton a lot more bearable! The controller is also lightweight, which I really like.

The Wii U Gamepad isn't a terrible controller to use, unless you're playing Smash with it and you're trying to exit a game.

My favorite controllers are the NES, SNES, PlayStation 1-4, and GCN controllers. They're petite-ish and are easy on the hands, and usually age well. I love the Wii & Wii U Pro controllers as well, As for handhelds, I love the GB/GBC. It was very comfy playing one of those. DS/3DS is pretty comfortable too.
To break it all down, here are my top 5 favorite and least favorite gaming controllers/handhelds.

    Favorites:

    1. SNES
    2. PlayStation 1-4 controller
    3. GCN
    4. NES
    5. GB/GBC

Least Favorites (some on this list doesn't necessarily mean they're "bad" controllers either):

    1. Xbox - Xbox One (Too bulky, don't like the button placements at all)
    2. Atari 5200
    3. Atari 7800
    4. GBA
    5. Wii Remote (without Nunchuck or other accessories)

I didn't count controllers from gaming consoles that people may be unaware of. All listed were mainline video game controllers.

I donot play many diffrent games but I have liked the 3ds and Xbox controllers

I lso despise touch screen keyboard controls(EX showing a round dirrections pad)I always mess up and you just cant Press A without the risk of pressing B aswell It annoys me.

I honestly find the 3DS XL to be slightly uncomfortable to hold :S I remember when I first got it, I had to play it while leaning the backs of my hands against something because the system was too heavy for me and tired my hands out. Now I don't have that issue, though my wrists do hurt after awhile.

But tbh I could just be hella weak in the hands.

I find that my 3ds gets kinda uncomfortable to hold after a while, but that takes a long time to get to.

The best controller for me is probs the Gamecube controller. I like how well it fits into my hands and how nice of a controller it is in general.

I think that the Gamecube controller or the Xbox 360 are the most comfortable to me. The Gamecube kind of molds into your hands after a while, and the L and R buttons are just so much fun to press. The Xbox one just feels right to your hands. I don't think that the PS3 controller is very comfortable, and that the analog sticks are just a bit too low for me.

I'm not a huge fan of the 2DS. It's pretty bulky and way too large for my tiny hands to reach the buttons.
On the other hand, the Gamecube controller is amazing. It's comfortable for me to hold and I can almost reach all the buttons pretty well. It's really nice because I can grip it pretty well.

The Wii U GamePad is so uncomfortable to hold, especially when you're trying to play Smash. I don't recommend it to anyone that is serious about playing competitively, haha.

Don't know about the best, but I personally never liked the original XBox controller. Was too heavy for me...and yet, I didn't mind the N64 controller. lol

Oh as for the Gamecube controller, that was okay...but for the remake of Ocarina of Time, imo, it didn't suit it. I didn't feel that the Gamecube controller was a good fit. I'd just go right back to my copy on the N64 which felt more natural to me. Same with the Sonic Game collection that it released. It was just easier to pull out a Genesis to play the original games or the Game Gear.

I never really found any controller to be that uncomfortable for me, and in all honesty I have always found a way to use every single controller in the best way possible. Maybe the bare wii Remote would be uncomfortable for me, since playing Mario Kart with the wheel attachment or gamecube controller is just better overall. Also regarding anyone who says the Wii U tablet is uncomfortable, just know the tablet has been said to be comfortable for those with big fingers and hands, and right now there is a planning of a slim version of the tablet for smaller and lighter hands :3

Best: Gamecube. That thing just fits in your hands so perfectly
Worst: 3DS and WiiU. Nintendo... I love you but these things are seriously uncomfortable

The XBox 360 is the least comfortable in my opinion. It's too big for my hands~
