LV could use more topics on the anime! What is your favorite episode and why? Alternatively, what episode do you feel is most memorable?
All right, I never watched the anime too much as a kid, but I remember whenever I got really angry, I watched an episode and I felt better. (Usually it was Hoenn or Sinnoh) There was one episode I barely remembered watching, only remembering the scene where multiple Volbeat and Illumise gathered around a tree. Spoiler: The scene Many years later, I tried to find the title of the episode. It’s called Time Warp Heals All Wounds. From Ruby/Sapphire Battle Frontier. It’s the reason why I don’t completely hate Volbeat and Illumise, and it was nostalgic to rewatch the episode.
*Entirely edited thanks to a point made by @FireSpartan5 Sorry I didn't notice the tag. Man, I'm blind* So, memorable episodes in Pokémon... I would think the first episode in Unova was perhaps what really got me into the anime in the first place. Even though it came well after I started the games, it was the episode that made me go back and watch most of the series, so I guess that's why I remember it so fondly. But my favorite? The first and second season of Johto of course. I can't decide on a single episode in the entirety of them. They were my favorite seasons by far, and Johto is one of my favorite regions as well. I couldn't decide even if you asked for clarification.
They meant the Pokémon anime. Hence the tag. As for me, I love characters and overarching stories more than individual episodes, but I will say that I loved the S.S. Anne episode in the first season.
There are two episodes that come to my mind right now as my favorite. There is the first episode of Diamond and Pearl: Battle Dimension, Tears for Fears, and episode 41 of Sun & Moon: Ultra Adventures, The Shape of Love to Come. I love the Tears for Fears episode because I really enjoy Chimchar's arch, I think it was done beautifully, and it was nice to have an episode dedicated to him accepting how hurt he had been in the past. And I really enjoy the Shape of Love to Come because Poipole is super cute, and enthusiastic, and just so full of emotion and love. And this episode straight up says that Professors Kukui and Burnet are Ash's Alolan family, which was a beautiful moment that makes me giddy whenever I watch it.
The most memorable episode to me is Arrival of a Rival! From Pokémon Diamond and Pearl. This episode will always have a special place in my heart because not only is it the first episode of the anime I've ever watched, but it's also the episode that got me into Pokémon period. I was bored one day and all the shows I usually watched didn't come on for another hour or two, so I looked at CN and saw that playing and I was like 'Eh, why not give it a shot?' I'm glad my boredom took over at that point. As soon as I started watching the episode I was amazed by the action and the animation and what was going on in general. After that I watched more and more episodes and yeah.
I've seen every single Pokémon anime episode and the only thing I remember is that I don't remember any of them. I am kind of being honest. Even though the Pokémon anime has been a big part of my childhood, I barely remember any of it. Ones I do remember are the very first episode, and strangely, the battle frontier arc with the brains, specifically the articuno and regi fights. I don't have a favorite episode. There are just too many episodes to choose from and I don't remember enough to consider a favorite.
For this one, we're going all the way back to the orange islands (since I stopped watching half way through johto xp ) So the episode is called "Charizard Chills". In this episode, charizard is being disobedient when it gets frozen in so much ice that it's life is put in danger. Ash stays up the whole night trying to thaw him out and trying to keep him alive. When charizard finally unfreezes the next morning, he is fit and completely loyal to ash. This episode struck me because not only did it show ash being a bit more competant but it showed how much he cared about his Pokémon. He wasn't a rookie trainer anymore and he was putting in the work with his Pokémon for once. After this, he earned charizard's respect and trust which is part of the reason why he lost at indigo plateau. When I was younger it was my favorite episode and to this day I still remember much of it.
*smiles* I l-o-v-e the episode when Serena cuts her hair short. She looks so cuteee! And gorgeouss!! (Closely followed by the last episode of XYZ. Hehe~♡)
Favorite episode is in the first series of Pokémon where Sabrinas parents defend her constantly even though she's drove them away with her powers and tries to scare off some of her challengers
Hmm...well my favourite episode is pretty tied between any episode where Ash and greninja were trying to make sense of the battle bond thing. Though my favourite would be when Lysandre had them trapped and (I think its ep 40 of xyz) I vaguely remember him like...shocking them or something? I think he was trying to take control of the battle bond thing and then they just go "nope. Sorry not gonna happen" and pull a heap of protagonist on him. (It didn't happen exactly like that but...that's basically the gist of it) i don't know why but it stuck.
As a kid I had three Pokémon DVDs with three episodes each. As such, those nine episodes ended up being the most memorable to me as they were the ones I watched the most. Of those episodes, two in particular remain some of my favorites. The Ghost of Maiden's Peak - This episode involves the gang getting caught up with with a ghost who later turns out to be a Ghastly using an old legend to make money, but at the end is revealed to have been working for the actual ghost it had been impersonating. This episode really stood out to me because it felt really unique and had a lot of fun stuff in it (like Ghastly turning into a Venasaur/Blastoise hybrid called Venastoise to intimidate Ash's Bulbasaur and Squirtle, or turning into a mongoose wearing a gas mask to fight Team Rocket's Arbok and Weezing). I also feel that it had a lot of emotion and character depth, though that largely went over my head at first and is something I started to notice later on. The Ancient Puzzle of Pokémopolis - This episode had a battle between a giant Gengar and a giant Alakazam that were both covered in tribal tattoos and are eventually stopped by a giant Jigglypuff putting everyone to sleep. What's not to love? I also liked how they explored a bit of the history of the Pokémon world, establishing that people in ancient times used to worship Pokémon and showing off some creative-looking ancient Pokéballs.
