Most overrated generation?

I can agree with Generation 1. Though I like Generation 1, there's those fans who haven't played any of the new games and like to scream "HURRDURR, GENERATION 1 IS THE BEST, NONE OF THE NEW Pokémon LOOK LIKE Pokémon." Well what does a Pokémon look like? The one's in generation 1 are all pretty much based off of some animal, just like the next generations.

I can also agree with Generation 3. It was probably my least favorite generation. But apparently lots of people love it because they keep fapping to the idea of Nintendo doing a remake.

 

Gen five is my choice. They went back and made more of what we had plus some bags of garbage to go with it. We already have several titans of certain specific elements (Thundorus), and we already have dogs, cats, pray mantises, and fire-fighting starters. There was so much they could have done that they didn't, but what ended up in the game got blown up way more than it deserved thanks to BW's plot, which so happens to be the most intricate.

 

Generation 3. Not that many Pokémon available (until Fire Red and Leaf Green were released anyway) and I thought Hoenn was a subpar region over all. Way too much water. Like Vanillite said there's also the remake people who keep going on and on about it despite that Gen 3 games are still playable and compatible with DS games, where the other ones that got remakes were no longer compatible at all and were dead. It made sense there, it doesn't make as much sense to remake Gen 3 right now, I'd say it would start making sense a good half way into Gen 6 when DS Lite for Pokémon games is fully obsolete. There's fans with nostalgia goggles on for Gen 1 and it gets talked about a lot (and rightfully so, it's true), but the exact same thing happens with Gen 3, the 'Hoenn babbys', an entire generation of people who played Ruby and Sapphire as their first game and overrate it today.

 

I wanna say gen 1. Theres so many people who say that only the original counts but really they don't take into account how flawed gen 1 really was.

Strictly talking about the Pokémon themselves, I agree about Gen 1. It may have been the first generation and what got me into Pokémon in the first place, but I think nostalgia taints a lot of fans' views. Some of the names in particular bother me, especially the ones named after real words with just a letter change: Seel, Onyx--or none at all, *ahem* Golem. It's understandable, though. It was the very first generation; they hadn't gotten their stuff together.

Now for the games? Gen 4. Specifically HeartGold/SoulSilver. I've seen a lot of people claim they're the best Pokémon games ever made, but I just don't get it. I feel like Mugatu, crazy pills and all. But that's maybe a blog post for another day.

 

I don't think any of them are overrated, as such. There will always be people who enjoyed the first of a thing and not its sequels.

 

Gen 1... those so-called "hardcore loyalist" fans who never played the latest games mocking them... I mean, Pokémon is supposed to be unoriginal. And what does Pokémon look like anyway?! Dogs, Cats, Birds, Turtles, Flying Raptors, Dragons... you name it. All generations have all species...

 

I'm guilty of being a bit of a "Hoenn babby," heh. I do genuinely like Gen 3, and I think the amount of water in Hoenn was well-incorporated with the several island-towns and Dive exploration. It kept things engaging, unlike the surfing in HG/SS.

I would agree with Degnne that the Gen 4 HG/SS games are overrated - the beautiful locales and "Pokémon walking outside of their Pokeballs" were nice touches, but I never found the main plotline very compelling (it seemed unusually flat and anticlimactic).

 

Gen 1 is completely overrated i understand it was the first and you love it for nostalgia but once you start to put other generation down saying yours is better you have crossed the line. Gen 1 is just as good as the others.

 

Gen 1 takes the cake. I like gen 1,but gen 1 isn't the best gen at least in my opinion.

 

I think generation 1 is overrated. People think that because its the first generation its superior to the others, but in my opinion the other generations are all way better.

 

Gen 1. All of my points have already been stated.

 

Of course it's generation 1. I loved Gen 1 when I played it, but the games just didn't age well at all. The game is barely functional really, it has little to nothing compared to newer gens. All it has is the bare basics and the first 150 Pokémon. And even though many of them are among my favorite Pokémon, a lot of others have completely stupid designs.
If a lot of new Pokémon people complain about were designed in Gen I or II, nobody would mind them much.

 

I'd say Gen 1 and 3 as well, 1 is overrated for nostalgia, but honestly it isn't that good. Gen 2 was better imo, especially how it's 2 regions in one. 3 is also overrated, but it deserves it.

I say Gen 1 and 3 and I agree what the others above have said. Although personally even if they've been overrated I still love them, just like the other generations.

Definitely gen 1. I have a certain respect for it because it basically paved the way for the rest of the Pokémon Series, but too many people act as if gen 1 was perfect and that all the other gens ruined the series In reality, the first gen was full of glitches, power imbalances and other game-play problems, and each gen had been improving on gen 1's flaws. Gen 2 added dark and steel types and fixed ghost's weakness to psychic, Gen three introduced abilities, Gen 4 split physical and special moves, and Gen 5 made TM's reusable.


As for the design of the Pokémon, the designs have gotten less simple over time but whether or not this is good or bad is matter of personal preference ans individual opinion.

 

The first Gen. I can definitely see how many people could have grown attached to it with it having been the original Gen and all, but seriously? So much as improved since the first Gen and yet so many people still say it's the only Gen they'll ever take seriously!

With some of those original Red and Green sprites I don't think I'll ever take the first Gen seriously. Even more so keeping in mind that they got Koffing perfect in the original games then screwed it up in the improved Blue version. Then that Golbat...
