Would you consider Generation 5 skip-able? It was a great region, and a great set of games, so I'd say no, but I've seen a lot of people skip through this gen totally, mostly Black and White (due to the force-fed new Pokémon) so what do you think? Is this the most skip-able Generation or not?

I don't think it is. Gen 5 came out at a point where people were most angry at the new Pokémon designs, so if you skipped it, you wouldn't have been warmed up to them by the time X and Y came out, which would have put a wet blanket on the spirit of things. It took generation 5 to ease a lot of people into the new way Pokémon were being designed so that they learned to just live with the ones they didn't like.

At least, that's how it worked with me. Now when I see a Pokémon with a design that's unappealing to me, or 'unoriginal' as others put it, I just decide to leave it in that category of Pokémon that I just won't train. No point making a fuss. I think gen 5 was important for that.

I don't really think that it was skip-able personally because I enjoyed them. I liked some of the designs of the Pokémon. I can understand why some people didn't like garbodor because it was designs after garbage but every design is based on something.

The most skip-able gen in my opinion would probably be the first because you can play through the region in second gen. I wouldn't skip it though.

I didn't like the new designs, really, but I still feel like people should play them. I mean, even if you have to find a way to transfer over old Pokémon to fight and build a team with. That's what I did.

It's still worth playing, and you should if you want to be warmed up to new designs in XY, because a lot of those weren't bad.

So, Gen I was the start, Gen II introduced Steel/Dark type, Gen IV had the special-physical split, and Gen V... Had a lot of new Pokémon, and hugely improved graphics. So, even though I really liked Gen III, it's probably the most skipable generation...

I skipped Gen 5 but I wasn't angry at the designs or what not. Gen 4, to me, was a real bore and I just wasn't into Pokémon enough to buy and play through gen 5. No motivation, no time, no money and the hype in my corner of the world was pretty much non existent compared to Gen 6.

I regret skipping gen 5 now simply because I'm head over heels in love with gen 6 and if I'd gotten gen 5, completing my Pokédex now would probably be a bit easier lol.

I also skipped gen 3 cuz I didn't have anything that could play GBA games at the time and I was too busy with my forever cherished Crystal.

Honestly I don't think these games are so easily skip-able. They brought a lot of new features to the table and Black and White should not be ruled off for having just gen 5 Pokémon. Also, Black 2 and White 2 are arguably the longest Pokémon games with a very long story and after-story. Tons of legendaries, the PWT, and such much more! These games are not something to be missed.

Grant it, the generation has a crazy interesting storyline and the region is kinda cool. I do like the fact that they included some more weather and seasons. I don't say it should be the most skipped generation. (I say 4, cuz it's boring >:L ). However, I do and still, find White and Black (not B/W2) are incredibly boring. Even till this day, I have not gotten past the 6th gym. Because I just couldn't stand it.

The games themselves and the features are pretty cool, I think some people can skip it since it's so diverse from the other regions. It's definitely worth giving a try though, and this is coming from a guy who only played Black from the Gen V games.

Despite disliking Gen 3 the most, it brought in abilities and natures, so it is a very important generation.

I don' t think it's the most skippable gen because I think every generation is equally skippable if you are the skipping type and don't care about completionism. A person can skip any generation then pick up with the next one and come to enjoy Pokémon; most of the fanbase kicking around today has done just that simply by not even being born when older generations were out, and seldom actually going back to them. I don't even care is one generation introduced this or that, it doesn't change anything as far as being skippable goes, because if it's a feature worthwhile it's in the next one as well, and then some. I find "this generation introduced _______ meaning it's less skippable than _______" to be a really shitty argument.

You can get a 'Pokémon experience' from any game, and leave out a game and not really lose anything. Even with the sequel scenario tomfoolery in the so called especially skippable gen 5, the sequel can be played and enjoyed without ever picking up one of the first games. The few things missed and referenced can be understood with a simple read through of the plot online, and that's if you even feel its necessary for you to enjoy the sequel game.

    Equal measure skippability.

Gen V just never appealed to me. I lacked the enthusiasm I had when playing the other games, for some reason, and I still have a Pokédex to complete and Black 2 to beat.

Not a chance. Besides gen 2 (counting the remakes) this was my most played gen. At first I wasn't so happy with the new Pokémon either, but just as all Pokémon I dislike at first, they grew on me quickly :) If disliking the new Pokémon is the biggest argument for this, they just need to give them a chance. And these games have one of the best stories in the series. Not something you wanna skip out on

Even though that this was not my favourite generation, this is not a skipable one. I liked most of the designs and if people went straight to the 6th gen, then they would be asking what is that Pokémon. So if they played the 5th gen then they would have a better understanding of what that generation is all about.

Actually, having skipped gen 5, I liked gen 6 more because I was asking "what is that Pokémon." I know gen 6 has the least amount of new Pokémon (which I guess makes sense because they did have to render/redesign all the older pkm into 3D) and ppl were complaining about that but I didn't mind it because I also got to be introduced to gen 5 pkm. *shrug*

I don't really think any of the games are skippable in a sense that each one contributes somewhat to the anime, or the Pokédex or the different gameplay aspects. For example, if you were to skip Gen 5, then you'd be missing out on the animations that were introduced to the sprites. Sure, some generations didn't have as cool Pokémon but they did introduce new tactics, typing and gameplay that contributes to the Pokémon franchise as a whole. Sure, you can physically skip a gen but you'd be missing out on all the new things that were introduced and you would ultimately say "Oh, I wish I had played that one".
