In competitive Pokémon, everyone knows moves like Scald or Draco Meteor are very useful. But what about those moves that you personally feel fly under the radar and are much stronger than people give them credit for? I have recently seen Gravity be used a lot in VGC 2016 which surprised me as I never thought that move could be as good as it is. This made me wonder about other moves that may also rise to popularity. This is why I'm so curious to see what moves you guys think should get more use.

There are only few that come to my mind, and even then, they are used, albeit very rarely. The first one was Bulldoze, which is rather weak Ground type move having only 60 Base Power. That is not the reason why it should be used more often. It's effect causes all targets hits have lowered speed, while it's understandable that Icy Wind is the preferred one, since it only hits your opponents Pokémon, instead of all other Pokémon including yours. This can be draw back, but you can avoid this by using Flying type Pokémon, or Pokémon with Levitate Ability. You could also go for more creative approach and pair Bulldoze user in doubles with either Milotic or Malamar to take advantage of Competitive and Contrary respectively.

Yawn and Perish Song also came to mind, for the same reason, to force switches, unless they are filling to let their Pokémon fall asleep or faint. Perish Song is also good in situations where your opponent cannot switch out, be it that it's their last Pokémon or via Arena Trap / Shadow Tag / Magnet Pull / Mean Look. There are some good users of both moves, but thanks to their other moves being good as well, these 2 are sometimes over looked.

And finally, Fairy Lock. While Klefki is it's only good user, it should be noted that your Opponent won't be able to switch out their Pokémon even if they knocked out Klefki on the turn it used Fairy Lock, Bulbapedia has incorrect information, watch the video in spoiler.

This makes Fairy Lock very good move for revenge killing, although risky one, since if Klefki doesn't die, it will be unable to switch out, and it cannot use Fairy Lock on that turn.

I swear I'm not saying/mentioning this because of my obsession for Lanturn, but Soak is such a great move. I've started seeing it being used more competitively recently, especially since 2015, but still, casual battling I don't see the move enough. It can be advantageous with Pokémon who don't have many counters (Spiritomb, anyone?).

One move that stands out to me is Wonder Room, though. The move that can switch a Pokémon's Defense stats with it's Sp. Defense for five turns. I hardly ever see anyone using it, but with good knowledge of a Pokémon's stat spread, I could see how this move could be used cleverly, possibly even forcing switches.

Then again, I've just recently came back to the competitive scene for a good while. I'm not too sure if people are using this move or not. XD But I'm definitely thinking about creating a team based around this move.

I've been seeing crafty shield on Klefki recently in VGC. It's quite neat if you ask me, if I remember right it blocks taunt for both Pokémon your side, but it doesn't block sleep though.

Also, I think magic coat should be used a little more. I think having magic bounce as a move can be pretty helpful at times.

As a Pokémon Showdown User and Inferno E4 , Ive seen alot of moves flip my right round with unexpeccted plays such as

    • Sky drop

When i saw that one sableye using Toxic on my Swampert , then that one Charizard X using Skydrop on my Pokémon , i was blown back at how much damage i took with a phsycally capable sableye with knockoff and poison damage whilist getting hit by skydrop

    • Dream Eater

That one Hypno using Hypnosis on my doublade (i Swordsdanced) then the gengar used DREAM EATER at my DOUBLADE and got to full hp healing 1 chip of damage from rocks , i woke up , hit it(shadow sneak) , then its sash came out and it Killed me
    • Transform

This guy Caught me off guard with his Transform Sash mew , i was setting up with my Gyrados DD x 4 , then all of the sudden this Mew come sout ,i hit it expecting a burn , get it to sash then it TRANSFORMS

As you all know , Mega evolving and such changes dont change speed untillt he turn after , that mew Confronted me with trasnform , outsped me and OHKOed me with outrage , proceeding to kill 2 of my team had i not been smart enough Protect it so it can be confused , i wouldve died for sure.

People have some crazy sets , but i like thier creativity , it sure helped them

Encore can take set up Pokémon by surprise and ruin their strategy by forcing them to keep using the same stat buff move over and over and being completely vulnerable to attacks. Combine encore with taunt and if they used a non attacking move they end up having to use struggle too! Quite a lot of Pokémon can learn the move and it's still very rare to see utilized despite how much it can ruin someone's strategy.

Counter and Mirror Coat can be devastating when predicted correctly. Especially with Pokémon like Swampert, Blastoise, Slowbro, Chansey, Mew, and sooooo many others having access to them without most people even realizing it (Wobbuffet is one of the few obvious users). These moves are rarely used but when they are pulled off successfully they can can really turn a match the opposite direction.
