As a military child, I have experienced a fairly large deal of moving. Maybe not as bad as others, but I still have had my fair share of it. It's never easy to do, and is a lot of stress while in the process of it. That combined with a deployed parent is even more stressful. I think the move out here to Hawai'i was the worst. What with it being an island, a parent overseas, the cost of living here, and a number of other things just kinda all added up to it. Don't get me wrong I like it here, but I'd like to have a more stable life in regards to where I'm living.

Now on to you guys. Have you ever moved houses? How many times have you moved? What was your experience with it? If you've never moved, would you want to? Why or why not?

Twice, once when I was 3 from like, the boonies to a small town. Then again when I was 16 to here (A small city). The move to here was easy because I literally just fled with some clothes.

Come to think of it, I have never moved houses. I still live in the same teeny tiny house with teeny tiny space and a teeny tiny backyard. I love my house, and I have gotten attached to it. I also have another house overseas, but that's another story, yes?

My small house was supposed to be developed, but it has never gotten the chance to get bigger because of certain... things...

Regardless, this house holds dear memories to me as it has never significantly changed since the '80's, far before we were born.

Having known another military child myself, I can understand exactly where you are coming from.

When I was much younger, my family would move house every 18 months. It grew to the point where I would predict it or even expect it. Thankfully, school swapping was rarely an issue, since the move was usually to another house in the same general area, and I would still be able to attend the same school. It was still a bit of a hassle to move around so much like that, even with such predictability. After all, it's not exactly easy to move house, even to another place nearby. Moving across country lines would make it even worse.

However, eventually it got to a point where we just stayed put. Now I've lived where I am now for over 15 years, and I'm quite content with this situation. Of course, I myself will eventually have to move out (I'm an adult now, setting off on my own, blah blah blah), but at least that is now something within my control and choice.

I'm actually in the process of moving to a new house with my sister so I can easily respond to this.

Have you ever moved houses? How many times have you moved? What was your experience with it?

Yes I've moved a couple of times throughout my life. I don't remember the exact number but I believe it was roughly 4 or 5 times? I never realized how difficult it was to find boxes that weren't so expensive until I went to Home Depot and then trying to go through stuff and pack things away can be a pain at times. The most annoying part is unpacking. Gosh that takes forever!

Not counting my changing college dorms/dorm rooms each year, I've moved a total of seven times:

The first time occurred while my mom was in the process of getting a divorce. I think we couldn't afford the house we were living in so she rented a townhouse. A few years later, after she met my stepfather, we moved again into a small house. All three locations (initial + first two moves) were in MD.

Up until late 2008, we remained in that house. I think we lived there about seven or so years? We had to move again because, not only had my stepfather been laid off earlier in the year (making it difficult to pay for the house), he got a job in another state. Unfortunately, a few months in he was laid off again, and we ended up moving in with my mom's parents back in MD.

We stayed with my grandparents until late 2011, where we then moved into a rowhouse in the city. (I could almost never distinguish gunshots and fireworks. It was not fun.) In 2013, my stepdad got a job in NC–different company/location this time–and so my parents moved while I was in college. Finally, in 2014, my parents switched apartments in the same neighborhood because they wanted a slightly larger place.

    ---

I don't think I minded the first two moves because I was still young, plus I remained in the same school district during the second move so I could still see my friends. The third move was really hard since we went to an entirely different state; I had plenty of trouble adjusting. The rest of the time I was fine with the moves.

I moved... 3 times if my memory from the depths of my mind are correct 4 if you count my dad moving to another house when my parents became seperate. I hated leaving my school when I moved to where I live now but now all good because if I wouldn't have met- never mind no need to spout that private info... we probably moved this one other time but what do expect? I nearly remember my life fro. 1 to most of 4.

I've never moved before! I still live in the same house I used to live in. There's no reason for us to move: my father grew up in this town, the house we live in is big enough for the four of us, we have a nice garden and a nice view, and all of our friends live in this area as well. That doesn't mean I won't be moving in the future though: I really want to move to an area right outside a small city, so that facilities are close, but at the same time, it won't feel like I'm actually living in a city.

I've never moved, and I can't imagine it. I've lived in my area for 16 years and my house is so comfortable to be in. It's not big or anything, but it has so much sentimental value to me. I know I'll move out in the future, but for now, I'm happy staying in my home.
