Hi guys. I was posting in another thread on here and it got me thinking...why don't we have multiple save files in Pokémon games?

For me, there are two possible reasons.

It's too hard to implement in a Pokémon game. Maybe it takes up too much space on the SD card or simply there just isn't enough room considering how big the games are already...

    Or

They don't want to add this because they will lose money. They release two versions, and if both have the ability to use multiple save files the sales for the opposite version people buy will drop greatly, especially considering how similar most of the games are, and how you can easily trade to get any Pokémon you want now.

Which do you think it is? What are your thoughts on this matter? Would you like multiple save files? Be sure to let us know.

This would be pretty much a godsend. At the moment, I am replaying my Pokémon Y to get Articuno and Moltres, and I didn't particularly want to delete my old Y file. It'd be nice if I had a second file for these dummy playthroughs.
I'd GTS them, but the trades are ridiculous by GTS standards. Event legendaries and themselves? Really?

Hmm, I think that your second theory, no matter how cynical is may sound saying this, is probably right. They release the games separately, and if there were multiple save files, people could easily share the game with a friend, they could start their own game without destroying their friend's progress :fuming: and get the Pokémon that are version exclusive themselves, and then there would also be no reason for them to get the game for themselves. It is likely because they want to make money... althuogh it would be nice that if your friend wanted to start their own game they didn't have to delete your save of Firered after you finally beat the E4 after so long and you had a shiny Venonat :fuming: :fuming: :fuming:

I think it's the money thing. In all honesty, Pokémon is one of those games that everyone would rather keep their original save file in. It would definitely take away some of their sales especially with people nuzlocking games like ORAS which need another file if you plan to keep your personal copy. Multiple saves files would be handy, but with them, the franchise would probably have a somewhat large decline in sales.

I honestly think a better. solution would be releasing one version rather than two, and make it a lot bigger with every Pokémon available. If they want players to have different experiences, then why not set it so Pokémon randomize on each route? Not so that you can get legendaries and stuff but just a different set of Pokémon each game.

It probably is the money factor. There are games with just as much (or even more) content that have multiple save files. It would require more SD Card space, but that's what increasing storage capacity is for. Maybe the next handheld system will support up to 32 or 64 GB cards.

Personally, I would love to have multiple save files be an option, but it won't happen unless GF breaks the two-game tradition, but that won't happen either. They make good products, and I'm sure they care about the consumer, but in the end, every company's game is greed... erm, profit.

I think it wouldn't be that good an idea, honestly. It would break the the tradition of all the other games, and I don't think it would fit too well, honestly.

Plus, there's the obvious monetary factor. They don't want to see their sales go down, after all.

Pokémon would definitely be more fun for me and more worth the cost. However, some people wouldn't buy two games anymore because of the multiple save files, decreasing the sales for GF.
