"And about the existence of another world, which we have long observed to be just like this one and yet not the same... That's right. A Hoenn region that's almost exactly like this one we live in. Filled with Pokémon and people like us. A world where maybe the evolution of Pokémon took a slightly different path, where Mega Evolution is unknown... A world where that war 3,000 years ago...never happened. A world where the ultimate weapon was never even built. And in that Hoenn of that world... What would happen if one day, out of the blue, a meteoroid appeared? What would happen to the people of that world, without the technology to destroy the meteoroid or the power to warp it away?"

This was Zinnia's speech in the Delta Episode of Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire about why Mossdeep Space Center's plan to get rid of the meteorite was unethical, because it may put another world a risk, one where they could not get rid of a giant meteor. This other world she speaks of refers to the original Ruby and Sapphire, a much different world indeed. No Mega Evolution, not quite as developed, no Kalos region.

Now the multiverse theory, for those who may not have heard of it, is the theory that (and I'm paraphrasing here) there are an infinite or finite number of universes existing together that collectively make up everything that exists, including time, space, matter, and antimatter. These universes can be completely different from each other or there may be parallel universes- universes that are almost exactly the same except for a few differences.

From what I can conclude from Zinnia's quote above, ORAS and RS (let's just forget about Emerald for a moment, haha) are parallel universes. There is no Kalos region in RS's universe, which means no ancient war or Mega Evolution. This also means no Primal Reversions or giant asteroid trying to crush the world. This means that ORAS and RS are not interchangeable in the timeline of the Pokémon universe, for they have different plotlines and thus, different universes.

Now the question is, how far do each parallel universe reach out when it comes to other games? Just talking about the main series games. And are all remakes a part of their own universes?

Here are my own thoughts. The original versions of the games are all in the same universe, with the exception of Kalos. Then the Gen I and II remakes, because they are very very similar, but with a few differences from the originals. Finally, Kalos and ORAS, and most likely new original games, will be featured in one of their own, where Mega Evolution and the ancient war actually did commence. Then the third games- Crystal, Emerald, and Platinum (not counting the Japanese-only Blue)- get another universe, and Yellow gets its own as well, because they branch off and expand more on the originals, but not as much as the remakes.

So basically my ideas in a nutshell:

    Universe 1:
    Red, Green, Blue
    Gold, Silver
    Ruby, Sapphire
    Diamond, Pearl
Black, White, Black 2, White 2

    Universe 2:
    Crystal
    Emerald
    Platinum

    Universe 3:
    FireRed, LeafGreen
    HeartGold, SoulSilver

    Universe 4:
    X, Y
    Omega Ruby, Alpha Sapphire

    Universe 5:
    Yellow

Thoughts, anyone? Does this make sense to you? Is it heresy? Do your alternate universes differ from mine?

Damn, I haven't been at the Delta Episode yet but that is some very interesting material you have there! I think your idea of how the games blend together in different universes is really solid and I can not see any flaws in it. I've always been interested in the multiverse theory, so this is some extra motivation to play through AS and get to this point! Though a whole universe just for Yellow... Lol xD

I definitely due agree with this theory considering that many things that happen in the remakes don't occur in the "main" games. But there are so many different universes if you consider every individual game as a different universe because they player themselves are just different versions, so thus, there are infinite universes and the compatibility between these parallel dimensions go hand in hand as basic dimension jumping.
(I know this didn't make sense, don't worry)

    Oops, spoilers. XD My bad.

Hahaha, yeah, though it's not really alone, more that it's the only game Game Freak has produced in its universe. XD

Yeah, I definitely could see where all the different games are their own universes! Then you could explain all the different inclusions in new games like new Pokémon and technology on things like small tears in the fabric between universes where they get through.

I like this a lot. I agree with the idea and especially with the different branches.

I thought about something like this after I beat the Delta Episode, and I was wondering if there was actually a world for HG and SS and a different world for G/S. I didn't really think about the Platinum/Emerald/Crystal though.

Well written and good job :).

This makes so much sense now! I quite like this idea of a "Multiverse" in Pokémon, which means they could do some interesting things... Nicely done GG!
