A lot of us strongly dislike certain genres of music, and maybe just certain songs in particular. Perhaps there is something in particular about those certain genres or songs that just makes us dislike everything about it or pretty much everything similar to it. What kind of music do you hate? Why do you hate it? Feel free to post an example of it. I don't like a lot of popular music that has come out recently. By "recently", I mean the past 7-8 years, and that includes songs that have been out for a little while as well. The main thing I don't like about most popular music is the lyrics. I mean, people should sing about cool things like potatoes. Also, they shouldn't sing (I'm kidding, don't h8). Of course there are popular sings that I like, but for the most part I'm not a fan at all. I've never been a fan at all of any of Justin Bieber's music, but there is one song in particular that has come out in that time period that I absolutely despise, even though I will quote it quite relentlessly at times. It was fairly popular, and I did like it for a whlie, but it really just wore on me. Spoiler Boooooooooooooooooooooooooo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fWNaR-rxAic
I have no specific examples but most modern rap songs, they are just spazzed out and they have a good intention but the auto tune kills anything for me. Also the most recent country hits feel like redone old country hits, nothing new in it. The song I hate the most though right now is Spoiler https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cMTAUr3Nm6I not a bad message but the lyrics of No to everything is weird, its just an uncomfortable chorus
There's a strange mix of music I like, which leads to a strange mix of music I don't like. What stands out to me right now are drawn from 3 specific genres, and strangely linked together by being dominantly male voices. They are as follows: 1. Bad country music: First and foremost I love good country music. Of all genres of good music country is definitely my favorite. This attachment is why the bad music hurts me so badly though. The past 6 years have spawned a ton of awful music that just pain me to hear because of how bad the genre has become and how scarce the good music is. Let me throw out a stereotype of a bad song, because, well, most of the new music is the same bad song rewritten over and over again. Girl, beer, truck, full moon, perfect night. The words "girl" and "baby" are used to reference said girl in what i hear as a somewhat demeaning way. The phrase "hey girl" instantly puts a song on my bad list, and seems to show up way more than you would expect. Perfect dates, nights, and girls permeate these bad songs and don't tell an original story like old country songs used to, if a story at all. Its a bunch of feel-good music of cowboys and their country babes, and they just lack the depth that country music used to have. 2. Bad pop music: This is again predominantly male singers, and again usually songs about girls. You may as well call it disguised country, or the country disguised pop because they both like to go on about how perfect their girl is or how amazing that night was. The pop songs just include a lot more sexual detail, or just sexual references. So much of it is just feel-good music again, and once again these songs lack any sort of depth or development. Once again the soulmate or very close friend is referred to as just "girl" or "baby" and I get real sick of it. 3. Rap music: Fortunately I don't have too much experience with this because I'm never forced to listen to it, but rap has never caught my attention at all. I've never connected with the songs, the language is absolutely horrible and way beyond what any person should need to use, and the focus of the songs is often very selfish and or sexual. Not to mention I don't get any enjoyment out of listening to people talk fast and rhythmically. I way way prefer a good melody to just a beat. Helps when you can understand the lyrics too, gives the song actual meaning.
I have to agree with Doomhound's choices about selfishness in songs and speaking of girls and perfect dates and nights. I never listen to these kinds of music, but the radio is usually on during art class and people put on music during recess and lunch at school, so I hear these songs. I really dislike R and B. It's just the same tune over and over again with very little layers. These songs most oftenly have swearing, and are very plain in my ears. I suffer listening to these songs, as I feel they lack in depth meaning and the lyrics, I feel, are brainwashing some people into being selfish and possessive. R and B just makes me want to run away from the source of the sound, but people will always be shouting out the song/ Modern songs in general, I feel, are losing their taste. The only thing I hear that the songs are based on is possessive love and heartbreak because a partner 'dumped' someone. Really? Is this what life is all about? Lyrics like 'I want your body' or 'You're mine' really disturb me. It communicates the wrong message because girls, or people in general, aren't objects. You don't own them and then brag in a song that they're yours. That's why my favourite kind of music is instrumental orchestrated or synthesised music for movies and video games, because I feel like they communicate better meanings, as well as before 2 000 songs like Michael Jackson and ABBA.
REGGAETON, that is the biggest pile of crap to ever exist, is absolutely shit for a lot of reasons which includes the auto tune abuse, the fact that every song has the same drum and bass recording playing on the back, the fact that most of the songs are only a chorus singed differently during the whole song, the depiction of all the women as prostitutes, the relation of some of the artists with criminals and drug dealers and also the the media coverage that it receive, tbh this shitty music genre creates a really toxic atmosphere everywhere it appears, really hate that piece of crap. I also really don't like country music, cant really tell why but it has something that really annoys me, maybe is cheesiness of the songs or maybe is something with the aesthetic, I don't know, but I cant stand country music. The only exception to this is Johnny Cash but because he is goat.
I dislike rap songs. Rap in accompaniment to some singing is fine, but just straight up rap isn't my cup of tea. It's just too sharp(?) or harsh to me for lack of better words.
I dislike heavy metal that is too pop in the chorus. Like radio friendly pop. Those two should be separated. I know that there is, pop goes punk CD's out. Still I am not a "fan",
i cannot stand country. it just feels bad for my soul. not throwing shade though if you like country you do you
"FARMER MUSIC" BURN IT See, I live in rural Ireland, where everyone is obsessed with farming and GAA sports. So songs about tractors and farming makes me feel like flipping a table. Also, basically all music on the daytime radio. Seriously. There's no heart to those songs. Most of them feel corporate. Also boy bands. Just. Destroy the boy bands. Please.
Every year you have that one Summer hit that is fucking everywhere. Radio, Adds, Malls you name it. And all catchy songs too like "All about that base" Jesus it hurts me.
Most EDM I have heard, especially dubstep. It makes my ears bleed and does not impress me at all. WOO COMPUTER EFFECTS AND SCREECHEY GRATING SOUNDS ADDED TO PREXISTING TRACKS! Yeah, great. That random people can make and do make (unnecessary) dubstep remixes of whatever with free music editing software and it can be hard to tell the difference between that and "professionals" at it says something to me..not to say I'm musically gifted at all, but it's just ugh, a real trend of modern music I can't stand. I can't wait for it to become solely done for irony and then fade away. I do really like some music that takes some elements of it, such as some Lauren Bousfield breakcore but even some of Lauren's tracks get on my nerves, and even at its worst there are elements more unique and pleasant to listen to than the average dubstep track. I know EDM is popular these days making this an unpopular opinion, but there it is.
Now, I love me some EDM, but I can't STAND Brostep. The thing is, everything EDM recently is Brostep. It's everywhere. Even songs that sort of sound like the things I like end up wubbing.
I'm not the biggest fan of a lot of rap songs. Before you hate me please hear me out. I judge music by 2 things mainly, sound (vocal, beat, instruments), and lyrics (what people are saying and the possible connotations or meanings). You can have the best sounds possible but if I don't like the message then forget it. The message of rap isn't always violent but to me at least, it sometimes either just doesn't make sesne or seems somewhat pointless. Now hear me out again. I'm not saying that rap is garbage or bad music by any means, I'm just not too crazy for most of it. I'm also not fond of song styles of country either for the same reasons. I don't care about your bad breakup taylor, and I don't care about you love life brad, I just want something that can be catchy without being too serious. There is a time, place, and mood for all music, but I don't want to hear that stuff all the time. I can be moody and sometimes I need a sad song that's not about all that drama!
