Let's talk covers! And by that, I'm talking the kind of cover where someone sings a song that was originally written/performed by another artist. Song covers are put up on Youtube everyday, a number of which go viral with millions of hits. It's not limited to Youtube either. You have tons of covers on Soundcloud and even some done by other celebrities.

What are some of your favorite covers, if you listen to any? Any that you feel were better than the original? Are there any artists in particular who are known for their covers that you listen to regularly?

The Japanese song 'Jelly' by Capsule. It was covered by Kyary Pamyu Pamyu, one of my favorite singers, and that version was super cute! :)

I really, really love Reggae covers of famous songs. There is a band named Easy Star All-Stars, who does Reggae covers of such albums as Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon, The Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, Michael Jackson's Thriller, etc.

    Here are some samples:

Yes. Wayne Wade's cover of Kenny Rogers' Lady. Kenny's original is too soft, and frankly, boring to me. However, Wade's cover is very catchy, and very danceable.

Edit: I forgot about Peter Tosh's cover of Johnny B. Goode. That's one of my absolute favorite Reggae covers.

I hear a lot of people say that covers are never better than the original. First I'd like to quote my favorite science teacher by saying "never say never." Secondly, I'd like you all to try out Holy Diver. Originally performed by Dio, it is considered to be one of the most influential pieces of music in metal music history, and still a widely respected piece even outside of its genre.

That was pretty awesome. I could rock out to that. It's not very intense either, don't gotta be a metal head to enjoy that.

Recently Killswitch Engage covered it with a more modern sound. And I think it absolutely raises Holy Diver to new heights.

Livelier! Better recording equipment! Hilarious video!

All of that while still staying true to the way that Dio first recorded it. I'm sure Dio is proud of what KsE has done with this.
