I've read an interesting article a short time ago, saying how there could be too much anime being produced right now, which leaves shows rushed and often unable to leave a lasting impression on the anime community. I have to be honest, I'm not still talking about some Winter 2015 anime I liked back then. Maybe this is different for you guys, though. Are there recent new anime that left a lasting impression on you? Do you think this anime will be seen as a "classic" in 10-20 years or not? This does not include re-runs of old shows and new seasons to new ones.
One Anime... Yuri!!! on Ice. This show... is exceptional! It's inspirational...it's so real! Where to begin... First of all, let's be clear... this anime is NOT a BL (Yaoi), Shounen-ai, etc... It's is just a sports anime, clearly confirmed by Kubo-sensei herself. Yuri!!! on Ice... is a series that revolves around three main characters. Yuri (Yuuri) Katsuki, Victor Nikiforov, and Yuri (Yurio) Plisetzky. Yuuri was at his wits end, ready to quit skating, but also wanted to get back his love for skating. Victor Nikiforov wasn't in top shape anymore, and was missing something that he lacked. Yurio is a genius skater who has always chased after Victor's back. Yuuri idolizes Victor from an early age. Yuuri shows lots of signs of anxiety, weight problems, depression, and the like. You can bet that a lot of us can feel a connection with Yuuri as we also have those problems too. But this show in general...is basically... two men, who met through ice skating, who develops feelings for each other. This isn't some lame fanservice, or anything. Some of us can call it that... I mean, all that yummy goodness is pleasure to a fujoshi's heart. However... the feelings between the two is so different from as if you were watching/reading a BL anime/manga. Why? Because Yuri!!! on Ice is NOT a BL series at all. The series itself is beautiful. Beautiful animation, lovely music, and especially, wonderful characters and development. The characters are awesome! Even minor characters have pretty good roles. This series, in particular, is the first time, that I ever loved all the BGM/Instrumentals. This show has a lot of hilarious and dramatic parts. But it all comes around, and you always end up wanting the next episode, as soon as possible! I know that not many will understand, or seem even the least bit interested in this series...but it's something to consider. Even the actual figure skaters have been watching this series. It's amazing!
