The Kanto Region is one of the most popular regions in the Pokémon world. It is considered to be a hotspot for trainers because of its large cities, widely explored wilderness, and the Pokémon League.​

​

As one of the many aspiring trainers, you have decided that this is the year you're going to begin your very own journey. No matter where trainers are from, they first have to make their way to Pallet Town, where the famous Professor Oak starts them out with a single unevolved Pokémon and a Pokédex. From there, the trainers go their own ways. Some find that they want to explore the untamed wilderness. Some want to be Pokémon Masters and catch them all. Some even want to breed the perfect Pokémon.​

Now, what kind of trainer will you be?​

GENERAL INFO:​

So hey guys! I finally decided to create my own RP because nobody was starting up an old-school Kanto adventure! Here's what you need to know about this particular RP to keep it from being a very predictable adventure:​

1. It's way darker. There is always danger in the Pokémon world, because let's face it, the anime is too happy-go-lucky.​

2. I plan to have Team Rocket show up here and there, but they won't be the usual clumsy zubat-wielding goons. XD​

3. Random events later on!​

4. Pokémon from other regions ARE ALLOWED to show up, just keep it... logical please. I'll be posting what kinds of Pokémon appear in areas as we go through them. We don't want a random newbie trainer catching a random Salamence on Route 1 right outside Pallet Town. ​

Personality:
Hal is a rather snarky, sarcastic teenager but is very loyal to his friends.
He battles just like he acts, with very calculated planned attacks.
Around his friends, Hal is a rather cheeky bastard, always looking for opportunities to snark off to authority behind its back and constantly trying to cheer up his friends with his comedic attitude. Around those he does not know however, Hal is very cautious and not always the first to initiate conversation but often warms up to people when he has judged their character sufficiently.

Strengths:
Hal is a thinker, he boasts a very strong intelligence in the theoretical.
His battles are often well thought out in advance.

Weaknesses:
Hal's expertise is really only in the theoretic, when it comes to practical tasks or even manual labour he struggles greatly.
When a battle takes a sudden turn for the unexpected he often hesitates instead of acting on his instincts.

Hal also has some issues with gambling and may require assistance should his urges get the better of him. It is not unlikely for him to lose his life savings in a night, wouldn't be the first time.

Starter Pokémon:
Eevee

Goal:
Hal seeks inspiration for writing his adventure novel.
He is travelling all over Kanto to feel the real experience of adventure and battle, taking on the gym leaders as he goes along.

Extra detail:
Hal and his family immigrated to (Poké-London) when he was only 10 years old.
He carries a Norse hand-axe in his bag to remind him of his original home. He practices with it every evening thus making it one of the few practical skills he holds.

Personality:
She's always wanted to go on an adventure. Ashley will love her Pokémon as if they are a part of her family. She's also loyal to her friends. Being bullied in the past by a lot of males had made her want to stay clear of them. So if she see's a male around her age, she'll remain quiet and maybe run off.

Strengths:
She can remember names easily, learns better by watching other people, and is a good cook especially for sweets.

Weaknesses:
spider looking Pokémon (is scared of them), and Chocolate (loves it and will stop to get at least one bar), and baby Pokémon (she will stop to pet them or help them if they're in danger)

Starter Pokémon:
Da puppy, Growlithe

Goal:
To learn everything about Pokémon

Extra Detail:
She's a vegetarian. XD She has met another Pokémon when she was younger so Growlithe wouldn't be the first Pokémon she's friends with, but that Pokémon is still wild (backstory)

Appearance:
Short, has black hair, dark brown eyes, fair skin and has a fairly average weight. Wears a black cap backwards with a red Pokéball symbol on it.

Personality:
Competetive, stubborn and generally a bit of a douche, he fights with the aim of making others feel bad about themselves. Dennis has a habit of picking on foes bigger/stronger than himself (but that's not saying much).

Strengths:
Due to his stubbornness, Dennis is very persistent and rarely gives up when he knows he wants something.

Weaknesses:
Dennis is quite reckless and doesn't take much care with his Pokémon. He hates shopping and rarely keeps antidotes or potions etc. on him.

Starter Pokémon:
Elekid

Goal:
To capture a mythical beast and look epiclly badass.

Extra Detail:
Dennis has a fondness for large, intimidating Pokémon. He also likes salty foods.

4. Riobhain's Koenig Grey and Piplup [3D='piplup']

Appearance:
A tall, skinny boy with pale skin and lavender hair. Normally wears his hair long in the front and short in the back, so it covers his forehead in places. For clothing, he wears a black fedora with a grey band around it, and, as he accumulates Gym Badges, he pins them to his fedora. In addition, he wears a black hoodie with grey stripes along the sleeves unzipped over a white t-shirt. He wears black jeans, a pale grey belt with a gold buckle, and yellow and purple boots.

Personality:
Grey spent his childhood training in Pokémon Battling and Training. Because of this, Grey is more skilled than other "newbie" trainers, and is not afraid to let others know it. However, because he spent his childhood (when other children were socializing and making friends) in this manner, he is unaware of social graces and niceties and often comes off as rude or cold. He is easily annoyed at wrongness or incompetence, and, thusly, frequently corrects people, further adding to his cold and rude ethos.

Strengths:
Grey is a better trainer compared to his contemporaries, but, because he is technically a "newbie", he is unskilled compared to more skilled trainers like gym leaders. In addition, he has an almost encyclopedic knowledge of Pokémon, including their types, moves, evolution charts, stats, and abilities because of his childhood spent training in battling.

Weaknesses:
Because he is cold, rude, and almost antisocial, Grey has severe troubles associating and cooperating with others. In situations involving other trainers (such as, say, double battles), he will try to forcefully take charge and direct the battle by himself, resulting in his partner getting angry and distrusting him. Social skills in general are a weakness for Grey.

Starter Pokémon:
Grey has had an Espurr (female) and a Gastly (male) since childhood, but chooses not to take them with him when he goes to Kanto. He chooses a Piplup at Oak's lab.

Goal:
Grey's goal is simply to prove that he is the best trainer. If beating the gyms, defeating the Elite Four, or disbanding Team Rocket are in line with that goal, all the better, but his primary goal is just to be the best.

Extra Detail:
Grey follows a very Machiavellian philosophy, especially when it comes to his goal of being the best trainer. He firmly believes that the ends justify the means, resulting in him being willing to do less than moral things. In addition, Grey does not hesitate to kill or severely injure his opponents to end a battle, and does not flinch at the sight of violence.

5. Vanillite's Farrah Elsin and Ralts [3D='ralts']

Her eyes are a bright blue and her hair is a shade of platinum blonde. She always wears an intrigued expression, as she's quite curious about the world around her! Upon her legs she wears a long pair of stockings, striped white and a light pink! Her shorts are white in color, and her shirt the same light pink of her stockings. The Pokéball present on her chest is white. Much like the stockings on her legs, the arm warmers she wears are also pink-and-white striped!

And, just like the rest of her clothing, her shoes and bag are also pink and white. Talk about color coordinated, huh?

Personality:
As mentioned earlier, Farrah is a curious individual! She has quite the interest in Pokémon-related folklore and knows much about the legends and 'fairy tales' of all the regions. However, this slightly hinders her in conversation, as this is all she seems to talk about! Farrah often gets nervous and will start to blabber about a fairy tale or legend. When she catches on to her blabbering, embarrassment will wash over her and she'll quickly stutter an apology before probably going and hiding behind a rock or something.

Strengths:
-Her knowledge in folklore can be useful for understanding the customs of certain towns/people

Weaknesses:
-While she knows her folklore, she knows nothing about survival. Does she know how to set up a tent? No. Does she know what berries can be eaten? No. Where's the next town anyways???

Starter Pokémon:
Ralts

Goals:
To decipher the various folktales of the Kanto region. She wants to be able to prove/disprove the legends that surround the region!

6. Wishing Star's Laura Fusilier and Vulpix [3D='vulpix']

Average height, long dark brown hair, fair skin, bright hazel eyes (bright yellow), thin wearing black short shorts
and a white top with a pink cardigan.

Personality:
Laura is an outgoing,courageous person. Helping people and Pokémon is how Laura finds joy in being compassionate. Being friendly, positive and loyal is what she loves to do because she feels as if I need to be the "best friend" sterotype all the time so she can make others happy within themselves and in me.

Strengths:
Makes friends easily, can manipulate people quite easily for her advantages, has very good perservance

Weaknesses:
Stubborn, can snap at someone very easily if opinion is challenged, not very patient, not very decisive and can be quite hurtful if giving tough love to someone. Laura doesnt know much about battling nor about how to train her Pokémon to level up or learn new moves.

Starter Pokémon:
Vulpix

Goal:
Performer to make people happy

Extra Detail:
Have a fondness for caring for people and Pokémon in anyway possible because of experiences in the past with bullying that lead her to try and be the "perfect" person even though Laura knows its impossible.

7. DocTachyon's Brennan Ängstlich and Froakie [3D='froakie']

Appearance:
Brennan is a short fellow, standing at just at five feet tall. He has a tweed cap, also called a flat top cap, placed firmly on his head, casting the slightest shadow to make the murky blue color of his eyes difficult to discern. He has a trenchcoat, which upon close inspection,was probably a light brown color once. The coat has been muddied and soiled by countless adventures, and Brennan seems to remember each of the stains and lines of grime as a story. He wears jeans that are perhaps a size too large, and the pockets are typically crammed with guidebooks, crumpled pieces of paper, and any trash that accumulated when a garbage can was not nearby. Unlike most trainers Brennan has two bags, one is a fresh, new messenger bag, filled with textbooks of various nature, be they Pokémon related or ranging in subject from human psychology to criminology. The other is a single strap backpack worn by years of use, in which he stores his average trainer supplies, like healing items and berries. His hair is a medium length londe mess, which he never bothers to style, as is made evident by the lack of a comb anywhere in his possession. He is built like an athlete, but his muscles are not noticeable, as that is one particular gift he let squander.

Personality:
Brennan prefers to keep to himself. In his room. With several bolted and chain-locked hardened titanium doors between him and the outside world. However, circumstance has forced him outside of his comfort zone. Brennan likes to keep his head in the books, a result of his particularly intelligent mother homeschooling him for his entire life. He has had little interaction with people, this is due to the fact that his excessive studiousness, he developed a pathological fear of humans, fearing their intentions and always assuming an ulterior motive. He is afflicted with an extreme case of apophenia, seeing connections where none exist. He is a conspiracy theorist, but, at the same time, he takes particular joy in discounting pre-existing conspiracies. When forced to interact with people he likes to keep things short and sweet, although sometimes he does like to indulge his intelligence and go on a rant. He actively avoids making friends, always fearing a backstabber among them. Some people say he is amoral, and this would be false- His sense of morality is simply different from yours or mine. While some people might see the betterment of humanity as a 'greater good' but the greatest good Brennan can see is restoring his mother to her good health.

Strengths:
He has an excellent theoretical knowledge of Pokémon. He knows everything the textbooks say, including stats, possible abilities, even the usage statistics of Pokémon in the league. He's done extensive research on each Gym Leader, and is attempting to formulate strategies ahead of time to compromise and destroy their teams.

Weaknesses:
Theoretical does not always equal practical. While a strategy may look good on paper, when an opponent makes a split unexpected decision, and a hyper beam is arcing towards your last Pokémon on low health, strategy stops meaning very much.

Starter Pokémon:
Froakie(with the hidden ability Protean, if possible.)

Goal:
Brennan has three: Desperation, Fear, and the Search For Knowledge.

Extra Detail:
Unfortunately, Brennan's mother is battling cancer. His number one objective is to acquire enough money through Pokémon battling to pay for her treatment. His other goals are secondary-His quest for knowledge about the world outside what he knows from his texts is a big one, as he feels he has gleaned almost all that he can from the books. His other motive is fear- Fear that if he does not grow strong through travel, bad things will happen. To him, to his mother,to the world. On an unrelated note, he has an excessively unhealthy obsession with junk food.

8. Galahad's Imani Seysa and Charmander [3D='charmander']

Appearance:
She has dark skin with narrow light brown eyes that look almost amber in colour. She has a square shaped face, a wide nose and plump lips. She is tall, broad shouldered and has defined muscles, especially around the the shoulders. She has a natural afro that is dark brown, almost black which she keeps very short - as close to her skull as possible - as it is practical. She also has double studded piercings in both her ears and favours wearing a silver ring on her left pinky finger as well as a plain black leather necklace. She often wears pants and plain shirts with hiking boots.

Personality:
She is loyal to those that she deems have earned it from her as well as a solid shoulder to lean on. She is strong and fierce in her regards for the ones she cares about. She is determined in her tasks and does what is morally right in order to achieve those tasks. She is a no-nonsense, straight to the point - almost rude - individual who tries her best to deal with the circumstances thrown her way. She is highly invested in learning about new things.

Strengths:
She learns from experience and tries to apply it in the future.
She plans for the future, calculating what could be required and what could be expected.

Weaknesses:
She has bad memory when it comes to things she deems unimportant.
She can come off as standoffish to those that do not know her.
She does not communicate well with strangers.

Starter Pokémon:
Charmander

Goal:
To learn about Pokémon and to assemble a formidable team; one that she can be proud of.
To find a place where she would like to call her home after travelling the region (or regions).

Extra Detail:
She is actually conflicted about her own gender but knows that she is biologically female. She prefers to be mistaken as a male due to her attire, attitude and hairstyle; she does not come off as feminine at all.
When she is nervous, she tends to bite her lip and twist her ring or fold her arms.
She tends to huff when she is annoyed or angry beyond words.
Due to an accident when she was younger, she wears a black wrist brace on her right hand. It slips on like a glove, her fingers exposed, and ends mid-arm. There are metal plates that bracket her arm which makes it difficult to move which caused her to use her left hand more - this only encouraged her to use her right hand less. Her right hand tends to hurt on a daily basis - it's considered a great day if she doesn't feel the pain.

9. ZeroBlack's Ren Stenson and EITHER Riolu or Totodile [3D='riolu'] [3D='totodile'] (undecided)

Appearance:
Tall and slim with sleek fashion, with dark hair and glasses. He wears dark colors, and is always about 20% overdressed for the occasion. (trainer pic I'm still saving up to pay for here)

Personality:
Rather serious, he doesn't have much time for silliness (or so he outwardly shows, perhaps). Still, he is personable and kind, and wishes to do no harm to others. At least no harm outside of defense of himself and those who need help defending themselves.

Strengths:
He has no problem giving worthwhile tasks 100% of his effort. He will never say that anything is "good enough" or "fixed for now", unless it really is done and as good as it will be. A real perfectionist.

Weaknesses:
Bearing witness to injustice bothers him: bullying the powerless, self-superior behavior, watching liars and cheats do their thing. Rather than turning this into a source of motivation, it upsets something within him, and rattles his composure.

Starter:
Either Riolu or Totodile

Goal:
Ren wants to make the world better. Put criminals in their place and to lift the downtrodden. As far as his Pokémon career goes, he wants to become a master both of Pokémon Training and Contest Coordination, to have Strength and Beauty go hand-in-hand.

10. Jarojo's Ruby Richards and Cyndaquil [3D='cyndaquil']

Regular height (Dennis my height), Dark brown hair, Hazel eyes, Olive skin. Wears Denim jeans, Sneakers (Converse stye), green t-shirt, light blue work shirt with buttons undone and sleeves rolled up to my elbows.

Personality:
Ruby want's to make everyone around her happy by helping them with little things, helping them reach their dream come true, etc. Ruby fights by training my Pokémon as high as she can without the Pokémon disobeying me and if Ruby has a friend with me she'll ask what move/Pokémon is good against the other Pokémon (She's not good at remembering what's good against what).

Strengths:
Very encouraging to others

Weaknesses:
Terrible memory about Pokémon facts

Starter Pokémon:
Cyndaquil

Goal:
To help people follow their dreams

Extra Detail:
Ruby loves all the Pokémon and if a Pokémon needs her she will try to help no matter what

11. Ferrospike's Lara McMillian and Magby [3D='magby']

Appearance:
Her appearance reflects her personality quite well as she is somewhat reserved and introverted. She is about 5'6 feet tall and weighs about 127 lbs. She has a soft shade of brown hair that matches her hazel eye color. Her clothing usually consist black skinny jeans and some sort of long sleeve t-shirt. Coupled with this, she wears a necklace of a small shard of never-melt ice,

Personality:
A very shy individual, Lara has some confidence issues. She generally wants to avoid conflict with anyone and this has lead to her being used by people. This has caused her to have some trust issues with strangers or even people she knew for several years. If she does end up trusting you, she is generally caring and warm.

Strengths:
-Knows several breeding techniques from her family

Weaknesses:
-Trust issues

Starter Pokémon:
Magby

Goal:
Not sure, hopes journey would help her figure that out

12. Ravenide's Axel White and Treecko [3D='treecko']

Axel stands at 5"11 ft. He has short sand-colored hair and likes to wear a dark red beanie. He has an athletic build and wears a simple v-neck shirt with a black and white jacket on top of it. When it's hot, he ties this jacket to his waist. He wears a rather large backpack with a water bottle attached. The backpack contains essentials such as a sleeping bag, berries, a first aid kit, and a sketchbook.

Personality:
Axel is a happy-go-lucky character who values time and doesn't like wasting it. He will always try to keep himself occupied and thinks that it is impossible to be bored when you're alive. He's good at sketching and will often randomly take out his sketchpad if he sees something inspiring. Axel feels secure in groups, even if he doesn't know the people well, and will try to make everyone cooperate and focus on a single objective, because as said before, he doesn't like wasting time doing nothing.

More often than not, he will try telling a joke to lighten up the mood. He has a motto: "What's being sad gonna do? You can't change the past, so why dwell on it?"

Strengths:
Axel loves the outdoors, and as such, spent most of his free time outdoors, exploring and sketching the details of his adventures. He can set up equipment really fast and knows a thing or two about cooking.

Another strength of his is his unpredictability. He is creative when it comes to decision-making, and this might even come in handy during battle with his future Pokémon.

Weaknesses:
His unpredictability causes him to be reckless. He's also very claustrophobic.

Starter Pokémon: TREECKO (Bet you guys thought I was gonna get a Wooper didn't you)

Goal:
Axel wants to have a little fun in his life. He simply isn't content with a life without adventure.

Extra detail:
He has a bit of trouble talking to girls, especially ones he doesn't know.

13. Sketch444's Jackie Willow and Chimchar [3D='chimchar']

Jake a tall thin girl. Her hair is brown and pulled into low pigtails, with the tips dyed purple. She has Caucasian skin and has freckles on her cheeks going over the brim of her nose, on her upper chest/back, and shoulders. Her eyes are green. She wears a long short sleeved shirt that covers her blue jean shorts. The shirt leaves her shoulders exposed and has a pair of stripes running down the outside of the sleeves, and encircling the edges of the sleeves, same for at the edge of her shirt. She wears a pair of green and black sneakers. She wears a pair of white stockings that go up half her thigh. She has a pair of long finger-less purple gloves that go up two thirds of her arm and wears a pair of black wrist bands over them. On her head she wears a black toboggan hat with a bill and ears sticking off the top.

Personality:
Childish, Friendly, polite, likes to joke, has a short temper, loud

Strengths:
Friendly and polite. Likes making people laugh. Loves her Pokémon

Weaknesses:
Her short temper. Terrible memory in general. Doesn't think before acting. Reluctant to battle other trainers.

Starter Pokémon:
Chimchar

Goal:
To explore the world, and hopefully become a ghost hunter

Extra Detail:
Always carries around a plush Tyrantrum, which she got from her grandmother. Has an odd obsession with ghost types.

6. If your last post is a page behind, other players who are with your character may assume control to keep the story going. They MAY NOT capture Pokémon or change anything about your trainer until you post once more.​

7. Minor control of characters is allowed, such as letting someone's character talk and banter. You may not decide for others though.​

8. Shiny Pokémon are not allowed to be found until somebody has 4 badges. Seriously, what are the chances of newbies running into an extremely rare Pokémon?​

9. Do not evolve your Pokémon too early. Refer to the game for when they normally evolve. For example, starters usually evolve right before or after challenging the first gym.​

10. I will be triggering random events as we RP. These may range from encountering a rare Pokémon, to running into Team Rocket during a heist. This'll keep things interesting.​

11. Battles will be fought on either a turn-by-turn basis, or two turns per post.​

12. As usual, if I find something too "convenient", like you finding your Charmander a mega stone right outside your house, I can completely omit that part, thus, making you have no mega stone. Let's be fair.​

INFORMATION FOR PLAYERS:
Once you've received your starter Pokémon, feel free to battle other players, receive your Pokeballs from the Professor's Aide, and head to Route 1.

OOC- Feel free to make your character come in the same bus as Axel if you want. I'm just setting up potential modes of getting to Pallet Town. XD

RP START

It was a relatively sunny day in Pallet Town. The sun was shining that morning and there were only a few clouds. From the window of a bus, Axel could see Professor Oak's laboratory on top of a nearby hill.

Huh, looks like I'm finally here, Axel thought. He was seated at the first row of the bus. He had woken up really early just to catch the first bus out of town to get here. On his lap was his sketchbook, where he was doodling. There were other people at the bus, but they didn't really talk much. Axel guessed that at least one other person in the bus was heading to Oak's lab as well.

Pallet Town was a wonderful looking town. It was surrounded by green fields and small rivers and hills. There were a few houses here and there, and it looked like a rather peaceful community.

The bus stopped at a rocky road at the base of the hill, and Axel got off immediately. The steps leading up to Oak's lab were long and winding. He didn't wait for anyone else to get off.

Today's the day.

Axel ran up the stairs as fast as his legs would carry him. With his large backpack strapped firmly to his back, he took two steps at a time. He wasn't sure if he was even the first one here.

When he got to the front door, he was greeted by a young man in a lab coat. He had a disheveled look about him. Probably because of all the preparation they had to do for Oak's anniversary giveaway.

"The lab will open once 5 new trainers shows up," the aide said grumpily, refusing to open the doors.

 

"What?! I thought it was first come first serve!" a girl behind Axel said, surprising him. He didn't even hear her come up behind him.

"Ah, I guess we'll have to wait," Axel turned to her, nervously smiling. She looked much younger than him, but still, talking to girls was never his strong suit. He walked past her and took a seat on the steps in front of the lab.

Did anyone else get off that bus, I wonder.

 

Axel saw a girl at the very bottom of the steps. She looked like she was a new trainer, but she wasn't going up. She held a small basket and was waiting nervously at the bottom.

Somebody should tell her Oak's lab is up here, Axel thought, but he was too nervous to go down there and tell her that. Geez, is everyone coming here a girl?

Axel took out his sketchbook and started immersing himself in his drawings. He was waiting anyway, so he didn't have much better to do.

The other girl who was behind him took a seat on the steps as well, groaning. "So I'm thinking of grabbing a Tyrunt or Shuppet for my starter," she said, then turned to Axel. "What are you gonna get?"

"Um, Tyrunt and Shuppet aren't on the back of the invitation," Axel said, taking out the invitation that was mailed to him. Behind it was a list of Pokémon that were available to new trainers.

Axel passed the invitation to the girl with the dyed hair.

"I'm thinking of picking Treecko. I'm Axel, by the way," Axel smiled.

 

"Well, Jackie, nice to meet you. Sorry you won't be getting a Tyrunt," Axel laughed. Down below, another Trainer had just arrived. It was a guy this time. It looked like he was talking to the girl with the blonde pigtails but she quickly pointed up towards where Axel and Jackie were.

"Looks like there's another one," Axel said as he turned to look at the aide. "One more trainer and we're in, mister grumpy!" he joked mockingly, much to the aide's annoyance.

 

Jackie gave Axel back his invitation after deciding she wanted to go talk to the girl.

"Don't let it get to you, he's probably just missed his breakfast," Axel called to the other boy who was now leaning on the railing. "Won't be long until another trainer arrives, I think," Axel said, staring over to where the girl with the basket stood. Jackie was now beside her, talking.

In the distance, he could see someone racing to get to the lab. Was it perhaps another trainer? She stopped to catch her breath near the bottom of the stairs and didn't seem to notice the two others down there.

"That makes five," Axel declared as he finished his sketch and put the book back in his bag. He stood up and turned to face the aide.

 

Jackie was back up the stairs in a flash. Axel only guessed that it was because of the fifth trainer.

"So, do we get to come in now?" Axel asked the irritable aide.

"I only see three of you up here," the aide smirked.

"There's two others down there!" Jackie replied, obviously irritated that the aide STILL won't let them in.

"For all I know, those two could just be bystanders," the aide said.
