NOTE: NOTHING IN THIS ARTICLE SHOULD BE TAKEN WITH A GRAIN OF TRUTH. I LITERALLY WROTE THIS BECAUSE I WAS BORED. NO RESEARCH OR ANYTHING.
    Sincerely, Lunen.

New Gen or Old Gen? Which one are you?

Before you go ahead and choose which one you are, let's take a look at what this actually entails. You see, these two terms (that I may have come up with myself, or not) relate to several aspects of how people play the games.

    Old Generation Pokémon Trainers
Old Gen Trainers are the almost like the foundation class of Pokémon. They were the people that picked up playing Pokémon during the Age of Sapphire, Ruby and Emerald. These are the types of Trainers that focus on the creation of a team that can take on almost any challenge. They aren't interested in things like EV Training or IV's. They might get excited over a Shiny, but don't we all. They are the most patient and respectful of Pokémon Players, more likely to take the time to teach a new player how to play the game. On things like Trading, they make suitable trades, no Legendaries for Normal, Impossible or Shiny Pokémon.
In real life, they are usually walking encyclopedias on Pokémon, able to name most Pokémon from the games that they have played. They are also often labelled the "Nerds".

    New Generation Pokémon Trainers
Compared to Old Gen Trainers, New Gens are almost like the Deception Bay of Pokémon (Search Deception Bay up on Urban Dictionary if you must know). They are rude, arrogant and are mostly the reason the Pokémon Company implemented Censorship. Anywhere from Gen 4 on wards, that is when New Gens found Pokémon and began to play it. Their focus is to be the strongest, by EV Training and IV Hunting. They don't play the game for fun. To most of them, the Plot is merely a way to allow them to get to new areas, other than that an annoyance. 90% of the trades in the GTS are made by New Gens, consisting of Hacked Shiny Legendaries, that are usually not possible due to Shiny Locking (Yes, the import thing is usable, but rare to find). Or else, they offer up ridiculous Pokémon for Legendaries, which no-one takes and it clogs up the GTS System.
In real life, New Gens are the the guys that play Pokémon because it's "cool"

Which one am I? I'm Old Gen. Old Gen all the way.

I want your thoughts! Did I analyse these right? Which one are you? Your feedback is always appreciated, and taken into consideration. Don't forget to poll!

I consider myself a 3.5 Gen player, the true Between, as I got in during the Tenth Anniversary, played friend games till I owned my own, my first being Pokémon Pearl

EV training is a factor in both types of players IMO as well

Seems like really shoddy and personally charged analysis and not correct to just be lumping Pokémon players into two arbitrary groups you thought up. Silly.. Also it's funny how blatantly anti "new gen"(according to your terms) your post is. Like it's just there haha,

Despite playstyle differences people play to have fun otherwise they would not be playin'. Don't assume someone else isn't having fun playing just because they're playing in a way you wouldn't find fun.

So, not to harp on you or anything, but those are two drastic extremes and opposites. If you want to do a pol requesting a personality, their must be middle ground and all options must have some good value to them. I'm sorry but that is not how I would describe new or old gen players, most poeple are a mix of the two. You are also seriously forgetting that the main demographic for the games are children around the age of 10 clocking them in around gen 4, none of them are ev or iv training. THey are hydropumping, earthquaking, and fireblasting their way through the game like the original audience did when we were younger. Then we discovered the depth of the game and made it competitive viable
In regards to your two options I'm going to cut your thought process down and say that I am neither a new or an old gen trainer. I love playing the games for the sotry and the adventure, I don't pay attention to stats in my initial playthrough and pick Pokémon that I like mostly based on design. However, once the main game is done I begin competitive planning. My friends and I create various teams via breeding and yes we are looking at ivs and always ev train. Our preference on which Pokémon to use is decided by stats and tier listings. We also shiny breed and hunt regularly for nothing more than the "we did it" feeling and to show them to each other.

I'll address @[member="Dusty"] first, because he makes the most vital point. This is supposed to be very personally charged. This wasn't meant as an impersonal expose, I wrote this as I feel. No research, not much actual data. Most of this is based off of observations, unqualified observations, and are mostly wrong. I needed to blow off some steam and write something, so this was the result. Give me some time and I could put together a piece that'd blow your mind, maybe :P

@[member="Apawn"], using Gen 3 as a Qualifier was a rather bad move... There was that in some cases. I used Gen III as a split point because that was the Generation that EVs were realized. Also, EV training isn't used as much by a few people...

@[member="Mimic"], D Bay is no joke, you should know that! Remember that one of our friends lives in North D Bay.

@[member="eeveeongirl"], Don't hesitate to harp, I enjoy people telling me what I've done wrong. I can learn from that! As I said to Dusty, absolutely everything in here is me being stupid. Nothing said in here should be taken against a grain of salt. I'm just too bored on holidays...

Thanks for at least taking me seriously everyone... That is except you, Mim. :P

By your standards, I must be an Ancient gen Trainer, seeing as I started with Pokémon Blue in 1999. But I have to say I act like an Old Gen Trainer a lot. I never check for IV's, EV's, Natures until after the second playthrough of a game. I hate the whole "Gimme a Volcanion for a Wooper" thing. I am a Pokémon nerd.

But I don't think you can split Pokémon players in two so easily. I get that it is a generalization you have made, but how many people here on Lake Valor started with gen 4 or higher?

As someone who started playing the Pokémon games from the latter half of gen IV, I don't agree with the terms you've used to label the descriptions you've supplied, since I've never been interested in EVs and IVs and stuff. I think more accurate terms for what you are describing would be casual and competitive players. Even then, your second description seems a bit harsh.

@[member="Lunen Transnima"] At this point, to divide it in the way you feel is "correct" it be more fair to split the generations in half, so HALF of 4th generation would now be considered old. In which I fit perfectly in, not to mention there is a new school and old school style of EV training as well.

At this point, what my home boy @[member="brsajo"] said was more accurate
