Hey everyone, while I was browsing another forum I came across a interesting thread that talked about a new way to encounter shinies. This new method is called The Blue Method, it's named after it's founder.

The basis of this method is that you walk around with your 3DS/2ds gathering steps to trigger the pedometer. Once you've gathered enough steps that you are comfortable with go into the game either in a route or Friend Safari and see if you encounter a shiny.

Most people seem to encounter their shiny on their 1st or 2nd try. It seems that it doesn't matter if your in the game or not, as long as your ds is closed and in sleep mode and you are gathering steps it should work.

A lot of people who encounter shinies using this method have gathered between 2k-4k steps.

These are the things that I'm not certain about:
    • Does the shiny charm matter
    • Does this affect eggs

If you do encounter a shiny, share your achievement here. Also if you find some more info about this method share here so that we can have a guide.

    2-4k steps? o.0

According to my activity log I've taken +170k steps with my 3DS and I only started getting shinies when I sat down and actively looked for them in FS. Even then I've never had them on my first or 2nd encounter. Try like my 40th :/I've also played the whole game, catching and encountering all the pkm on each route before moving on, and I've only ever gotten shinies in FS.

If it helps I do have the shiny charm. I've hatched 2 shinies. Both with shiny charm and using masuda method. One's a gible (with stats) after about 700 eggs. One's a trophy delibird after like 5 eggs

In any case I really don't think the steps you take affects the chances. If anything I'd attribute all my shiny catches to the shiny charm + FS.

I'm a little... Skeptic about this "Blue Method". I mean yeah we all know Nintendo has been going out of their way trying to get their clients to get up out their lazy bums and get moving... Hense the creation of the Wii's concept, heck they even have Wii fit! Wii fit was brilliant. :T

But that aside, I would say it would take more than 2-4k steps... And besides that I don't know if it really matters though, but it's something to look into I guess.^ - ^; Do you have the source?

I'm a little skeptical about if this works or not
But I'm gonna give it a try tomorrow after I get back from the county fair. I'll record down the number of steps my DS records, and after how many encounters (in a friend safari) I had until I find a shiny.

    Edit #1 - number of steps 3,042.

Hm. I might try this out, but seeing as my current target is through the Masuda method, I'm not sure it'll work out for me.
