Do you think there will ever be new types? The type chart has basically been set in stone since the second generation. Is it time to shake it up a bit, or do you think things are perfect (or close enough) as they are?

If new types ever are introduced, what would you want them to be?

Part of me wants there to be three new types just to make it a nice 20 types total.

I do think a sound/music type would be cool. Any new types would have to play catchup with the other types concerning the number and variety of Pokémon and moves available. However, there are already several sound-based Pokémon (Chatot, Whismur line, Chingling/Chimecho, etc...) and moves (Sonicboom, Supersonic, Uproar, Perish Song, etc...) that could be updated or retconned.

    What are your thoughts?

I don't see any reason to add types. There isn't really any other types to make, what we have now is fine so I don't think we will see new types.

i would like to see new types s well but like you said, there'd be a lot of catch up to do with the last 5 gens. i agree with the sound type though, they can pull some sort of retcon like they did wit dark type and some moves when that first came out. i also think there should be a light type. it would balance out dark nicely.

I don't think there's the need for more types, what we have at the moment is quite enough.
Adding new types would also mean the whole balance of advantage and disadvantage would have to be rearranged.

Also, isn't Psychic kind of the opposite to Dark? Looking at the way Umbreon and Espeon were introduced...

Yeah, Psychic is meant to be the opposite of Dark, but I never really understood that. Also, I believe Dark was originally meant to mean underhanded and sneaky not the absence of light. Which I don't understand how being a big ol' cheater would be good against Psychic type. Wouldn't being able to read minds warn you that someone is going to stab you in the back, so to speak?

That got a bit off-topic there.

Anyway, I think light could be an interesting type itself, even without being an antithesis to Dark.

How exactly would a light type fit in with weaknesses and resistances though? To be completely honest I think the idea of "light vs. dark" is way too over done, it's like the number one fantasy cliche out there. Having it against psychic is good enough for me. I can't think of a type that would play off well in combination with others, I think we've got a good combination as it is.

I think new types would be cool and all, but I don't think there is any new types to make...

I think they're fine with what they have. Maybe new combinations, ones of which they haven't done before would be cool.

i'm more in favor of this more than anything. we need to see some of the stereotypes shaken up!

and as far as light type goes, i've always seen psychic as the antithesis to dark odd as well, it's just one of those type hierarchies that don't make sense, like fighting vs flying or bug vs psychic. and yeah yeah light vs dark is a cliche and everything but its an elemental type in other things so why not? and i see light as being more of a healer typre, sorta how dark is more tricky than actually being "dark". but its not like its actually gonna happen, i'm just musing.

I don't think Dark refers to darkness, but more of a dirty fighting style. Think about the moves. Only new moves that were added so the type has special attacks are kind of "dark magic"-y, while all the others are things you'd see in like a rule-less fight. Which is why Fighting type is super effective against it, I guess.

A sound type might be cool :o I don't know what resistance/weakness/etc it would have but it does make sense with some of the moves there are out there.

Sound would be neat :) but I agree with Ashe. I dunno what kind of weaknesses/resistances there would be, but it'd be cool. I can't really think of any other types they could add that would make sense. As mentioned earlier, new combos would be awesome :)

i've always wondered about fighting being super-effective against dark bt when you put it this way it makes perfect sense!

    Oh, yeah, I love Plumbloom.
Normal type kind of fills that place, though.

There should be a new type that's food type. That way the Vanillite line can be Ice/Food. And there could be a Grass/Food corn-on-the-cob Pokémon. And Miltank could have a Normal/Food evolution that's a cheeseburger.

I dont think a new type is necisary but...
more importantly, you guys have misconceptions about psychic vs dark. Psychic types are weak to COMMON FEARS that would mess with their focus. namely Bugs, Ghosts and the Dark. This also explains Fightings strength against Dark, if you think about it as a mental fight they bravely will themselves through. Flyings strength against Fighting, imo, is because they are out of the Fighters reach.

I hate the idea of new types, to be honest, but I think a re-ordering of types should be in order. It seems so strange to me for Grass to have 5 weaknesses.

The problem with new types is we have a nice balance right now, and a new type could easily mess that up.
