So today (I think it was today), the Nintendo 2DS was announced and is being launched October 12 of this year-alongside X & Y. Basically, a 2DS is a 3DS without the the clamshell design and 3D feature. It'll be selling for around $130. What do you think of the Nintendo 2DS?

I kind of worry about the screen getting scratched or cracked if you accidentally drop it, seeing as you can't close it like a clamshell. However, I do like the price and that it can play 3DS games. Now you don't have to pay for all that extra shit (using the 3D feature in my case) you won't use!

    Here's an article on it:

This is kinda cool, and I may think about getting one since the price is so much less and I don't care about the 3D feature much anyway. I could probably get this sooner than a 3DS to play X and Y. Not sure how I feel about losing the clamshell design and why that's even necessary at all, like you said, worrying about screen scratches (it had better come with a case), and also it looks like it might be kind of awkward to hold, but I'd accept it if I got this instead of an actual 3DS. I need to be getting something that can play 3DS games as soon as I am able to anyhow.

This almost seems to be a response to those who complained about the new 3DS games not staying on the DS. It has everything a 3DS has, minus the 3D, and it looks rather awkward at first glance but it's almost nostalgic to the old Advance. It seems as if it's for Hipsters :)
It looks like it might be awkward/uncomfortable to hold, and yes, susceptible to screen damage.

But I don't mind the idea. It provides those who dislike 3D a cheaper option for the newest games.

It does indeed look like the Advance and the 3DS had a child :)

I got my 3DS XL for not much more, than this. Then again, I was buying on Amazon....

I honestly don't get why they felt the need to do this. Yes, it's cheaper, but is it really worth it? By the time you pay for all the covers and carrying cases in order to protect it, it will have amounted to the same cost as a regular 3DS, anyway. I don't really like the 3D feature all that much, either, but I'd just assume stick with my XL. (besides, I'll admit it's really fun, painting in 3D)

I probably won't be buying it since you can't close it. I hope it doesn't fail like the Micro though.

I think its a pretty cool system. I might save up for one even though I already have a 3ds. Plus I really like the idea of a cheap 3ds type of a system. The 3D feature isn't all that great so I'm glad Nintendo is coming out with a cheaper option for people that don't want to spend a ton of money.

I guess I should have kept this to myself...

I don't know if this is Nintendo trolling us or what, but this doesn't seem legit. I don't particularly like the idea. Maybe it would be better for younger kids-- wait, no, since it doesn't close it could be very easily damaged...

I don't think it's a good idea. I should probably prepare for a ban now, since everyone else is actually happy with it.

Seeing as it's on the official Nintendo page, I think it's probably legit :)

I don't really use the 3D feature on the 3DS very much, so I might eventually end up getting a 2DS. However, I do worry about the screens. Since it doesn't close like the other DS systems can dropping it and scratching it seem like a threat to me. I guess the only real solution is to be really careful with it, huh?

How does having a different opinion than most make you feel the need to prepare for a ban? I get suspicious about stuff like this all the time, and if I hadn't have seen it on the official Nintendo page earlier today, I probably would have said something along the lines of thinking it was fake as well. I can see how you might be a little nervous about sharing an unpopular opinion, but I don't think it should ever result in any sort of ban, unless you were to decide to be disrespectful in telling your opinion, which you weren't.

Don't think that just because you have a different opinion. On another site I visit, I seemed to be the only commenter that was actually fine with the idea.

Regardless, I have a 3DS XL so I personally won't be picking this up. The only thing I'm very opposed to about the 2DS is the design, seeming awkward, uncomfortable, non-portable, and easy to damage/scratch the screen, as posters have said before.

I think, in my opinion, this is a bad product for Nintendo. I mean, the clamshell is really great to have on the Ds, and the thing looks like a huge version of the GBA. I am all for Nintendo, but I'm probably gonna stick with getting the 3DS XL, even though it costs more, it don't bother me. Js, I'm not trying to be hateful, it's just my opinion.

The new shape is a little awkward, but I'd be willing to try it :) Just something I came up with, but they could've chosen this shape because the hinges on the regular DS and 3DS sometimes break or become cracked. :o Though this shape doesn't protect the screens..

I don't like it at all so I won't be buying, but I can see how it would be useful for people like Doima.

It actually makes me kind of mad people would assume we'd just ban them by having an opinion. Please don't be so dramatic.

Wow, I'm really glad this was introduced. It has a lot of potential uses, like:
    • Need to dinner ready, but don't have a cutting board? Don't worry! The Nintendo 2DS is here to save the day!
    • Need a coaster to set your drink on while you play your 3DS? Not to worry - here's a Nintendo 2DS!
    • Have trouble picking up the last slice of pie? Try the new Nintendo 2DS!
    • Having difficulty drawing straight lines for your last minute homework? The new Nintendo 2DS comes with a built-in ruler(please note: the ruler is not labeled and is located on the side)!
Yeah I hope that sums up how I feel about this.
Exactly, thank you! The only things that will get you an immediate ban/suspension are:
    • Advertising - Permanent ban immediately
    • Getting rude with the staff members - suspension
    • Spamming - Permanent ban
Voicing an unpopular opinion won't get you banned or in trouble unless it's discriminatory or flat-out rude.

I'm not a fan of the new shape very much myself. I said that earlier, but I would be willing to try it. When it comes down to it, when I say I might buy it what I mean is: one of these days something WILL happen to my 3DS. The 2DS will just be an affordable replacement if the next big system hasn't already been released at that point.

I almost want it just for the sake of having it. Its extremely weird and pointless, and I've always been a fan of weird and pointless things haha.

I completely agree. I don't really think it's good for much but more money and a smaller price. I'm not fond of the idea either. I seriously did not believe this when I saw it. I'm fine with others buying it, not going to call them out or anything, but I don't like it myself. :s

And, don't worry. You're not going to get banned for disagreeing. :D

I don't think most people here are the target audience for this. Well, okay, those who still need a 3DS for X and Y might be, but I think Nintendo is really targeting these towards parents with younger children since the 3D effect is harmful to their eyes. The simplistic design reminds me of a toy even.

I don't really like it. The fact that there isn't going to be the clamshell screens will be weird, since I've gotten so used to the handhelds having a clamshell. Also, although I don't know many games where the shoulder buttons are important, but the orientation of the buttons seems awkward too. I do like to occasionally use the 3D feature as well and I think I will miss it, even if occasionally means once a month.
