No love for Raichu, why?

    I've always noticed that Raichu in the anime never get a good image. The ones I remember the most were Lt. Surge's Raichu who was pretty mean, the Raichu from Pikachu's Vacation again kind of a bully, and the Raichu from Pika and Goliath who once again was mean.
    The few better views of Raichu were the Raichu Ash had for the Pokémon summer accademy, but that one was very scared and timid; and the Raichu named Sugar who was shown for only a short period of time at the end of the episode.

    I don't understand why Raichu(s) seem to get pushed aside or become antagonists all the time. I personally prefer Raichu to Pikachu, and think that they need to show it a little more love. What do you guys think?

    Maybe they want to put Pikachu even higher on the Pokémon pedestal by showing its evolution in a bad light?

    I don't know. I really love Raichu, it's one of my favorites. I too have memories of mean or shy Raichu in the anime. ]: It's sad.

    That's just what happens when you have a Pokémon that is pushed and forced as the mascot for over a decade. "Pikachu is good, Pikachu is great, Pikachu is cute, damnit you will like it!"

    Makes sense that they would try to make the all-around better Pokémon Raichu look bad in comparison, any way they can.

    Raichu is simply an unfortunate victim of "It's not as cute/beautiful/aggressive" as it's pre-evolved/future form. Personally I prefer Raichu over Pikachu myself.

    Also, Doima's post is also accurate too. Pikachu IS the series' mascot, and that alone makes it more popular with not only the fanbase, but apparently also the executives and writers too.
