If someone says something, such as a joke, and another person gets offended by it:

Whose "fault" is it? Do you believe people should generally watch what they say and be wary of possibly offending others? or do you think people should say what they like, and those who get offended should simply be less sensitive?

I've seen plenty of people on both sides of the spectrum. Which side are you on and why? Maybe you're about in the middle? Feel free to politely and respectfully debate with each other. :)

I think that it always depends on the situation. If I made a bomb joke on 9/11 at a memorial service, then I'm a total douche. If I were to make a joke about Native Americans and Casinos with my good Native American friend who makes those jokes about himself all the time, then if he was offended I'd tell him to get over it.

If I had to pick a side, I'd say that more people should watch what they say and do. While I won't go out of my way to not offend people, I certainly won't purposefully do anything to hurt anybody's feelings. If everyone just took a moment to think about what they said before speaking, then I think a lot less people would have hurt feelings.

I do also believe that people should toughen up a bit. People are going to offend you as you go through life; there is no dispute about that fact. If you can't hear someone insult you without throwing a fit, then you aren't ready to responsibly handle conflict. Get a tougher skin, don't sink to their level, and move on with life.

So yeah, I stand on both sides.

I think people should be more considerate of others because sometimes we can't help but to feel offended. I still think people have the right to say their opinion and make jokes about things, but they have to keep it mild if it is likely to hurt many people's feelings.

It depends on the person. If someone says something, they should make sure it won't be offensive, whereas certain people shouldn't be so quick to ofense. I like to be nice, though I worry that some stuff I say comes out completely wrong. I generally ignore offensive comments though

I really try my best to watch out with everything I say, because I really don't want to offend anyone :/ Of course, that doesn't go right all the time, so when I accidentally offend someone, I will definitely apologize to them. My sense of humor is usually received pretty well by most people, I only ever had trouble with it a handful of times...

I joke around a lot, so after everything I say, I say "just kidding." I don't think that it is the asker's fault if the other person gets offended. They were just trying to make a joke, so I don't think that it is their fault.

However, sometimes people need to watch what they say. People tend to get way too carried away sometimes with their jokes. They need to also remember that the other people have feelings and that they might not always been in a joking mood.

I personally love joking around, and I don't really like it when people get offended over nothing. I understand getting offended over something controversial, but the tiny little things that don't matter really don't matter to me.

I feel like that was really deep for me.
