Hey guys I want to here your thoughts. Are the person who always is there with the newest tech? Or do you enjoy the simple charm of the olden stuff? And I don't just mean computers and phones. Boom boxes and Boise speakers. Typewriters and keyboards

I always like to see the newest thing on the market, but it's nice to see where we came from and it's styling. In the teen center I go to we have a record player and a bunch of vinyls that never collect dust.

I'm actually posting this via typewriter and messenger pigeon, so I suppose you could say I'm high tech. Some of my friends do their internetting with Navajo smoke signals or throwing chiseled stone tablets like frisbees.

But really, I'm new-tech with a delay timer. I have only a few vinyls myself and I haven't touched a cassette since [embarrassing '90s music redacted], so I'm with you that some oldschool has its charm (my primary portable music device is a circa-2008 Zune). My phone is a flipphone with texting keyboard, so it's between brick and smartyphone, but I'm upgrading soon (still far behind the curve). My gaming mostly hangs around the SNES and N64 timeframes, but once I get a few more computer hardware upgrades I'll be catching up to more recent times.

So yeah, I'm up to date new with new school tech only if you give me a time machine to go back a few years, but I'm not a complete Luddite either.

I see very little (read: no) point to always having the latest version of something when possible. After all, there will always be a later version that comes out afterwards, and it doesn't work any better than the versions that came before (in some cases, it becomes worse).

I don't care whether or not something is new or up-to-date; I only care about one thing: whether or not it works. All other concerns are essentially secondary. This reason is largely why I am reluctant to purchase a new computer - everything on there will be 10 editions ahead of what I have now, and I've grown attached to these older versions of programs because I know how they work and they're aesthetically pleasing. Newer editions of programs are not always like this (Microsoft Office and Skype are the largest offenders of this that I know of).

I like using older tech a little bit more. Not only is there a charm to them, but it's easier to find out how to fix bugs that may lie in the hardware or software. It's nore efficient to know whether it's really worth the money especially considering there will usually already be reviews by many long time users. The older tech is actuallly even cheaper! It doesn't damage the money in your pocket too much, and over all is just a little more reliable.

I would say I use old tech as well, as my keyboard is definitely old (as it has no esc key) and an old mouse from the ph that I bought from a store. As with my monitor, It was the same one I used with my old computer.
I also have a lot of old technology that I don't use, such as a old computer, an very old Ps/2 keyboard and maybe some old printers maybe.
    So.... yeah

Now I'm very curious. How old even is that keyboard? I own keyboards from the mid-90s and they have Esc keys. I'm curious if it's just a special case, or if keyboards from before I was born didn't have Esc keys.
