There's plenty of these artists out there. How many do you know of?

The only one I can list off the top of my head is Karmin.

If you were alive and able to remember things in the late 90's, you listened to this. Yes, you did. You know you did.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Psy. Gangnam Style was a bit hit, but his other song that I heard come on the radio wasn't as good in my opinion. There are a few others who I'm not sure about though, so not gonna say 'em just in case.

What about Carly Rae Jepson? I've always found "Call Me Maybe" kind of annoying.

    I could name a few...
Eiffel 65's "Blue" song, Baha Men "Who let the dogs out?", Lu Bega "Mambo #5".

Those three songs were great though. XD I used to blast their music in my stereo and think I was one of the cool kids in school because I liked them. Haha. I know I am lame. It kinda sucks that they were one hit wonders though. They had some cool ideas for their music.

Oh, and there's also this thing. Shitty uninspired UK pop music from 2002 about girls asking you to touch their bum.

The one-hit wonder where only a few (almost no one) know the artist, the song's name, or the lyrics, BUT still everyone knows the song.

The reason why they aren't a one-hit wonder.

Ask any number of people at random, and a lot of them will remember/recognize "Take on Me", but almost nobody's going to know about "The Sun Always Shines on TV". That song only did well in the U.K., and even then it lasted for a couple weeks before falling off from its seat.

I suppose also different people read "One Hit Wonder" differently; whether it's a case of specific chart topping hits (and even then whether the song made it onto the charts, or actually hit #1) or just "stuff they're known for". I believe that TECHNICALLY speaking, Jimi Hendrix was a one-hit wonder by a certain viewpoint of chart readings, but he's got enough other hits out there that people know him for that he's not considered such. Same with Weird Al.

It really depends on the location. Where I live (Middle Europe), even thought I agree "Take on Me" is more popular and recognized, "The Sun Always Shines on TV" is also really popular and well-known song.

I don't like the technical point of view of one-hit wonder, where it only takes the charts and #1 as a deciding factor. Especially because there are musicians and artists who became famous after their death. So in my opinion, one-hit wonder is a band (or musician) which only had 1 really great song, which is also well-known for a bigger audience.

Oh, one interesting "trivia": Weird Al is TOTALLY UNKNOWN here.

Knowledge of him varies here. Some people *coughmecough* have all of his albums/eagerly await each new one and whatnot...

Some people have a passing knowledge of him.

And then there are the people I've encountered who react with "Didn't he do that "Eat It" song in the 80s? I didn't know he still made songs..."

Trying to think of other OHW acts... Dunno how many people here watch anything on Thatguywiththeglasses.com, but Todd in the Shadows has a section called "One Hit Wonderland" where he discusses One Hit Wonders; the band's formation/leadup, the release/reaction of the song itself, and what came after/whether or not the band deserved greater success. Some of them have really been quite interesting.

On that note, I give you Men Without Hats.
