Many artists have the dispute of whether or not they prefer to do requests, or how often they will take commissions. Do you mind doing requests? Does it peeve you even when you write somewhere you don't do requests but peope message you anyway asking for one? Do you still do it? Do you tell them to commission you instead? Do you like doing commissions? Or in the end do you just haggle a deal out with an art trade?

My art isn't good enough for anyone to pay for a piece LOL. But as for requests, I'd only do them for a close friend or as a gift on my own (though that's not really a request). If someone randomly asked me about it I'd probably say no, especially if they were rude about it. It's annoying enough when people are like, "Oh you draw? Can you draw me?"

I do anything Requests,Comissions, and Art Trades. (i like doing Art Trades more because me and the person i'm drawing for gets something in return. I barely do Request and i don't do Money Commissions.

Sometimes, commissions are worth paying for. How you're willing to pay and how good the artist is, is a different story. I started requesting commissions and the price I pay is fair plus the artist I go to for the commissions is very talented.

I actually started doing requests for a couple people who aren't good at writing fan fiction. Taking requests is all I can really do, otherwise I'd have a lawsuit brought down on me and be forced to pay royalties.

    But if I had to choose I wouldn't mind either or. I love art trades cause I love it when other people draw my oc's and stuff ; v ;

I like taking requests because I like giving than receiving. I think art is such a broad term that by doing a request you're giving more of yourself into the piece rather looking for the payout.

Personally I have wanted to try to do commisons, requests and such, but i realized that I am not capable of doing any sort of thing that has a deadline or a specific purpose for an individual. I guess it's because I get nervous that they wont like the art they get and the fact that they're waiting for it to be done. But group things are a different story which i don't understand why I feel different about it but that's my story and im sticking to it :P

I personally don't like doing requests that much, unless I have absolutely nothing else left to do and it's just a small thing for fun. I've done a ton of both requests and commissions over the years, and what I've observed is that commissioners are more often than not more respectful, and appreciate your work a lot more.

With free requests, whenever I would open some I would get bombarded with them and often yelled at if I didn't get to someone's request right away, and they often had really outlandish requests that were really hard to pull off. All of the commissioners I've had the pleasure of working with have explained exactly what they want and have paid the full amount up front, and have understood if I needed an extra week or two to finish their commission due to real-life reasons.

Now, I'm not saying that all people who request art from artists are bad, not at all! It's more of a maturity level thing, it seems. People who have the money to commission an artist typically know what they want and are more willing to wait for a good product. Same with most requesters, but sadly the stress of doing free art for people while having a queue of commissions as well is too much for me. I do still enjoy doing giftart occasionally and hearing other peoples' ideas of what to draw!

I always have requests open, but alas, my inbox remains empty and requestless. I haven't done commissions before because if people don't want my art for free, why would they want to pay for it?

I've done commissions and other paid artwork before but requests are so much easier for me. As a very lazy artist it means I can take my time and not worry about whether or not the piece will come out good enough for the money paid for it. That and it's nice to just make free, surprise pictures for friends every once in a while. ^_^

art trades are neat but again ogod what if my half isn't as amazing as their half?! omg.

I don't like to have people pay for something I did, because I usually do it as a kind gesture. Although, people don't seem to notice, especially since I'm doing "free commissions" on my deviantArt (please check out my page! ;-; ) and only 1 person has ordered one, and she really liked it and even advrtised for me, but still no orders...

This has been one of my pet peeves for a while, truth be told.. I always have it written in my profile where others can see, but I've still gotten Notes on dA asking for requests in the past. It's not that I don't like drawing what others want, though; I just don't have the time or artistic skill to do so. But every once in a while when I'm feeling really generous (or if it's for a special occasion, like a birthday), I might let a friend ask me for a specific drawing. I don't take [money] commissions or plan on doing so, because when I draw something for somebody else, it's always just in a gesture of kindness.

If you count spriting commissions, due to my epically failing in drawing, I'm not confident in my abilities yet.I love requests, and I love to make people happy, but then again, I'd love to make a bit of extra cash too~The only reason I don't like commissions is because, a love of the tome, the person doesn't pay for the work, and you're left with all that effort for nothing.

I guess I'll go with requests for now.

I don't have the gall for commissions. Requests are perfectly fine by me, but I still prefer Art trades all the same. (Despite long waits, I don't mind waiting for the other party to give me their parts. A peeve of mine is that they spend months without returning my part of the trade, if they even remember. I may have done the same before, and I have learnt from there to at least justify why you need some time to get it done, not keep the other party waiting until pigs fly.)

I prefer commissions. I feel it's the more professional way to go about things, && it makes me feel as though people truly appreciate my work as they are willing to pay for it. Now, I will do requests/favors occasionally for close friends. However, the problem with this is that some of them will tell others that it was a request && not a commission. && Then I'm bombarded with requests from people I've never spoken to before who want things for free && done quickly.

Another reason I prefer commissions is that you are being paid to make something that another really likes. That means you are open to their constructive criticism so that you get the piece juust right for them. My problem with requests is that some people can be so bossy! I understand, that like someone who has made a commission, you want the piece to look exactly as you want it to, but you've got to remember; This is a request && I am doing it for free as a favor.
