Do you tend to over predict what your opponent is about to do? I know I have an issue with this quite a lot.

Lets just say, for example, I'll be in a Pokebattle with an opponent who just sent out a Pokémon that completely counters mine. [I.E: I have a water type on the field and he has an electric type.]

I'll think to myself, "So he knows I'm probably going to switch into something that will counter his Electric type. Since he knows that, he'll probably use a move that is supposed to counter his counter." [For example, his electric Pokémon carries some sort of Grass/Ice/Water move.] Instead of switching into his Pokémon's counter, I'll try to swap in a Pokémon that will counter his counter move!

Sometimes I'll make a good decision with these predictions but more often than not, I catch myself really setting myself at a disadvantage by trying to predict what they are going to do next.

Does this happen to you a lot?
Do you have any examples of how this has happened to you?
Do you have a rule-of-thumb that you follow when it comes to your opponents and predicting them?

    Let me know!

I both over and under-predict too much. Usually, I under-predict if it's against a team that may appear to look "noobish", but then I am sometimes caught my surprise and the person I'm playing against is actually a good player. For your typical, everyday team matches, I do over-predict a lot. If my opponent does the same, it turns into one huge guessing game, and I absolutely hate it when it gets to that point, especially if it turns into a stall war.

In a nutshell, I generally know what kind of player I'm playing against based on the first few turns that take place. If they switch out a lot & whatnot, that's a good indication that they're an experienced player who knows what they're doing.

I have this problem for sure. In a match I will over think what an opponent is about to do and think for a while of how to counter something that probably isn't going to happen. The worse situation is when you have a Pokémon who counters both of your typings and you have nothing that resists both, so you don't know what to switch to.

This is the bane of my life. I have over predicted for the pain reason of i don't know when to stop. I personally hate it but now and again the risk plays off.

This happens a lot when I am against opponents that have variant sets such as Mega Garchomp instead of Mega Tyranitar on sand teams (still wtf-ing about that). I don't always see the signs of variants being around, so it hurts hard when I do get caught off guard.

For me, over predicting occurs when I'm uncertain about my opponent's skill level. Usually if someone is really good, they can predict what you'll do next, so you take what you think they are going to do to counter you to counter them back. If I'm up against someone I know with not that much skill, I know they are going to do a certain attack or switch because of the Pokémon I have out and I can counter that because I would do the same in their shoes. Its kind of confusing to explain, but its pretty obvious to see in battle.

I've had this happen before as well. Of course, an opponent's skill level is not always the greatest indicator, as I've seen some strategies I never would have expected (i.e. a SubMegaChomp from one of the lowest ladder players). For the most part, I'd say skill level is a pretty helpful tool though :)

I over predict way too much, but only because I think most of the time that my opponent will read me, but only because I think it makes common sense.

I try to predict with all of my opponents, but most of the time I don't know if they will attempt to predict me or not....

I tend to over-predict and under-predict. Like stated above I feel as if my opponent will read me like a book. Though me taking a picture of their team in team preview has helped me improve my predictions.
