Ever seen some Pokémon merchandise that looked a little... off? Something COMPLETELY hilarious that there was no doubt it was a bootleg? What bootleg Pokémon merchandise have you seen? Have you bought any? Share any stories or weird looking bootlegs you find here!

I stumbled upon this wonder today on my feed. Is that sailor moon?

My parents got me some tiny bootleg Pokémon toys last year, the paint was SO cheap and the smell of them gives me a headache.

Bootleg sapphire and fire red. The bootleg is what got me to get the real one. It was okay but the problem is that it got wiped way too easily. I was just getting back into Pokémon at the time so I honeslty had no idea what I was getting myself into.

god,, I used to have SO many bootlegged GBA Pokémon games. When I was younger I didn't know what Pokémon game is legit and what's not since every single game the sell here is bootlegged. Yes, even the official Pokémon versions. They all have the same black cartridge and shitty sticker on top of it, and even the box cover has the "Nintendo Seal of Quality" or whatever.

The bootlegged versions I had were:
Pokémon Naranja (It had Celebi as its cover mascot)
    Pokémon DarkCry
Pokémon Quartz (This one's pretty famous for its weird sprites, I think)

I also got this really weird Leafgreen cartridge. I think the game file itself is just the Japanese version translated directly so they have this bigass letters for the texts. The Pokémon had shortened names because of the character limit (For example "SALAMENCE" was written like "SALAM" and "BLASTOISE" was just "BLAST") I wish I still had them tho I would definitely post pictures...

@[member="Fizzysoda"] omg I would've LOVED TO SEE THOSE!! Was the game play any different for each of them? It'd be interesting if they were all like bad ROM hacks LOL. THAT LEAF GREEN SOUNDS WEIRD-- almost like a vietnamese crystal omg. That's amazing Fizzy, it does suck that most every Pokémon game there is bootleg though, it must be hell to weed out the real ones. :c Did you throw out the games or sell them back?

Bootlegged Pokémon merchandise never fail to make me laugh, some of it is just hilarious. As for what I've seen I've seen figures and cards mainly and I think some plushes too. I don't have any pictures of the stuff I've seen tho. I don't even remember how most of the bootlegged stuff look other than the cards, they had a very visible purple tint despite that they had pretty good image quality.

I haven't really encountered lots of bootleg Pokémon merchandise. Although I do remember playing the cards with my friends and seeing these fake cards with insane amounts of health and they would just give me a laugh whenever I saw them

I am very lucky to own this masterpiece. Not only that, but I also have quite the collection of bootlegs. Here are four of my favorites:

The only bootlegs that I've ever come across have been trading cards. They're some of the most popular bootlegs and usually are full of typos and insane stats. I used to have a bunch but over the years I slowly just started ripping them in half because of how cheap the paper they were made out of was.

Not only Pokémon games, every single GBA cartridge sold here were bootlegs now that I remember :( but nah, the gameplay was exactly the same but they had some really botched text. And I'm pretty sure they're just a bunch of ROM hacks/fangames that were taken by pirates online and then resold using these cheap-looking cartridges.

Speaking of bootleg Pokémon games with weird-ass text, there was also this cartridge that I had that contained like 3 different GBA games and like over a hundred SNES(?) games in one. It had Pokémon Emerald, a Spongebob game, and another obscure game I forgot about. Sounds like a great deal, right? Three games for the price of one. Oh, how wrong I was.

Here's a little story on one of the worst bootleg I ever had (long story, click the spoiler tag lol)
So I booted the Emerald of course and what I saw first was this glitchy opening sequence, followed by this... bizzare looking font and broken English. Little me didn't care because hey, it's Pokémon. And then Prof.Birch starts to talk.

Basically the only way I can describe it is that this game is fucking Vietnamese Crystal 2.0 all of the Pokémon names were changed into some weird words like for example (and this was carved into my memory forever because of how strange it is) Rayquaza's name was changed into "Mumu" and Illumise was "King" like whut.

The moves too, thank god the accuracy, type, and power weren't changed because if it did, the game would be unplayable. You know the worst part of it? I endured countless hours of this bullshit and when I cleared the game, the credits roll like usual, right? Nothing wrong with that.

Except when I try to load the save file again, it had deleted itself.

like what did i do to deserve this punishment

As for what happened to my old cartridges, I kept them in a box somewhere. Nobody here likes buying second-hand items so it's impossible to sell them anyways. I'm so glad I didn't because I get to relive these hilarious monstrosities again.

You know what? I'll start searching for them. When I find them, I'll post pictures if you guys are interested lmao

EDIT: I found the stash. Pics below spoiler tag
look at these delicious hacked bootlegs

v This one contains both the LeafGreen and Emerald that I was talking about.

Last but not least, a glimpse at the horrible text this game has

Speaking of bootleg, I think I've got one that was one of these bundled games, either in bootleg NES consoles or as part of unofficial GBA compilation games and whatnot. In that platformer game, you control Pikachu that can defeat the enemy on its path by zapping them (3 times, unless if you found the charging item), and for some enemies, you can jump and stomp them Mario-style. This game has its own issues, like naming of the stages that sometimes I don't understand (like Velbt, for instance), or how the number of lives reset to zero whenever I cleared the stage, but at least, the game is pretty okay-ish.

Too bad I didn't have the luxury of witnessing very many of these. I'm sure I'd have seen much more if I went to Chinatown more often. D: If only I could put these guys out of their misery........
