A key to any budding trainers team, the humble Pokéball is required to catch whatever Pokémon takes your fancy. However, it's not as simple as there being only one type: no, there are quite a few there now for our use on the field!

This gives rise to 2 questions: what are your favourite Pokéballs, and least favourite Pokéballs? Do you have a particular reason why? Would you use Pokeballs for how they look and match the Pokémon, or would you use what suits the particular situation? Are there any that just look really nice and catch your eye?

Personally I most prefer using the regular old Pokéball myself, it's of such basic design and simplicity, which I love about it. Not to mention it's red! I'm also a big fan of Timer Balls considering how long it can take to catch some Legends, so having Timer Balls on hand for the big fellas is something I often do (as well as having 40 odd Ultra Balls)

I'm still heavily undecisive of the Repeat and Heal Balls however. Repeat can be useful yes, but it's more a gimmick if anything, and a similar thing goes with the Heal Ball in which you do Heal the caught Pokémon when caught, but afterwards it's just a basic Pokéball. Both look nice though so I won't complain on those grounds.

Ultra Ball is my favorite. It has a higher catch rate and you can buy it anywhere once you get enoigh badges. That's pretty much it.

My favorite PokéBall design will have to be the Moon Ball. I guess it's because of how much I like the night time of the day and the pattern on it is pretty. But Poké Ball usage wise, my favorite is a tie between the regular Poké Ball and the Repeat Ball. When Black and White came out, I decided to challenge myself with using only Poké Balls to catch Pokémon, including legendaries. And, I did the exact same thing with X and Alpha Sapphire. For the Repeat Ball, it can really help when your either shiny hunting or breeding (for Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire). :3

For the least, I guess I have to say the Premier Ball. It's just a somewhat rare Poké Ball and it has the same effect as a regular Poké Ball.

I usually carry about 40 Ultra Ball with me on my Pokémon adventures. Although, I'm not shy to bring about 20 Timer Balls, Dusk Balls (which are really useful in caves and at night), Heal Balls, and Fast Balls for the roaming legendaries (I'm looking at you, Raikou!).

I tend to use the standard variations quite a bit in their proper places. For instance, if I start running around the region again post-E4 training a few pokes from egg to high level, I'll use Poke- and Great- again in their usual places, as opposed to jumping up to Ultraballs for first route rodents and whoever else I decide I should catch.

Outside of that, though, I find myself relying on Dusk balls a lot, probably since I play mostly at night. Other than that, Timer balls are good for taking legendaries too. By the time you false-swipe them down to a sliver, Timer Balls are probably fully charged.

Least favorite? I want to say Heal Balls. I went out of my way to use them in Pearl, mostly just for decoration, but they're like 0.01% better than a standard Pokéball. They're just not worth it.

Dusk ball is nice, night time is 50% of the time anyways. Ultraballs are good utility balls in general, high catch rate, simple, can be bought at most marts. I like the design of the Luxury ball and the Safari Ball though.

As amazing as the pretty Pokeballs are - Luxury Balls, Moon Balls, Heal Balls and what not, I tend to use the Ultra Balls and Quick Balls the most! I use those because they are quicker and easier to get than the other Pokeballs, and I tend to try my luck to throw a quick ball first - it works most of the time. For Legendary Pokémon, it would have to be the Ultra Ball. The ONLY exception to that is the Master Ball, in which I used before I became 'smart' in Pokémon - saving up the Master Ball for later. Another funny exception to that is when Ho-Oh was trying to hard to catch Victini, but with no avail. So she randomly tossed a Great Ball, turned around and said to me, "This is definitely not going to work." But it worked. :D

Quick ball is best ball. I don't have the patience to use timer balls. When quick balls fail, my second choice are dusk balls, since they're more effective than ultra balls when used in the right conditions.

I really like the quick ball because it has a pretty good catch rate on turn one. Also timer balls for those log legendary battles. I don't like ultra balls (even though I use them all the time). They cost a lot and I usually end up catching the legendaries in a great or timer ball anyway.

I like regular pokeballs because its the most iconic, luxury balls cause of the design and the effect, timer balls are useful, and i like the shadowy effect when sending someone out a dusk ball.

Least favorite would be heal balls, I can't think of a single time when I absolutely needed that healing effect right away. I almost never use dive balls either.

Favourite: Dusk Ball. Least favourite: Heal Ball. I usually play at night a whole lot of the time and a lot of Pokémon are found in caves, so the increased capture rate of the Dusk Ball really helps a lot. As for the Heal Ball, I just find no reason for it at all. Pokémon Centres are free and Pokémon that are sent to the PC automatically get healed. There's no additional capture rate bonus either. A waste of money if you ask me.

Ultra Balls are overall the most effective, but, like many others, I mostly play at night so Dusk Balls are probably my favorite. For some reason Great Balls appeal to me too. Maybe it was because one of my friends caught a Heatran with one when and I was younger, he said Great Balls possessed magical powers that made them better than Ultra Balls...

My favorite pokeballs are definitely Moon and Dive! It's a shame that Moon is exclusive to G/S/C and HG/SS though. ;n; But Dive Balls are my go-to choice for if I want Pokémon in special balls!

I don't really have a least favorite, actually. o: I used to dislike Ultra and Great balls because of their designs, but they're okay now. I like having my competitive teams in fancy pokeballs if they can be, and usually I don't match them up exactly haha. Most of the time I divide it up between Luxury and Dive balls.

I always have a generous supply of Quick Blls and Ultra Balls. I end up using Ultra balls a lot more often than I'd like so I'll have to choose it as my favourite ball.

That said, the Quick Balll has had it's moments. I mean, even legendaries aren't hard enough to catch to escape now (looking at you, XY)! :P

My least favourit Pokéball is probably the Safari Ball. It's extremely limited and I've never really used the Safari Zone in any of the games.

My favorite Pokéball comes to Quick Ball, because it's useful when I want to catch several Pokémon on my first try, and I don't have least favorite so far.

My favorite is the Premier Ball, I really like the simplistic white and red design. I usually try to catch my early game Pokémon with it as you can only buy Pokeballs anyway and Premier Balls are the same but they look way more cool.

My favourite ball would be great ball. I caught a lot of Pokémon using it. Quick balls are also good, it made fast Pokémon that are hard to catch, to be catches easily. So my favourite are great balls and quick balls.
Heal ball get away! As some of people already said there is no need of heal balls when you have Pokémon centres which provides you free healing service. I never used them and i think i will never use them

I have to go with the matching looks, heavy ball on blastoise, luxury ball on staraptor, and moon ball on umbreon. but for my diamond playthrough, where I went through the whole game with only six Pokémon, it felt right to only use pokeballs

My favorite design-wise is the Moon Ball. For usage, it would have to be the Dusk Ball. I am a night-time player and when doing a Wonderlocke, you do not want the little things to escape and do damage to your Pokémon. I lost my Ghastly to that.

My least favorite would be the Dive Ball, I just never use it.

I've always had an affinity towards Premier balls, myself, although the traditional Poké Ball is a close second!

I remember buying Pokeballs in sets of 20 (I think that's how many it is?) in the games order to get the free Premier balls-- I just love it's primarily white, clean design! c:

I also love the idea of "traditional" Pokeballs created via Apricorns; I have a soft spot for rustic things!
