Sometimes I wonder, as a human who eats meat (which is made of animals), would it be okay to eat Pokémon? Would it be ethical? Socially acceptable? Culinarily encouraged? Pokémon are animals, that might be true, but it could be said that it's different to eat a Magikarp than it is to eat salmon, or a Combusken compared to chicken, or Sawsbuck compared to venison. After all, Gen 7 Pokédex entries make mention of humans eating Clauncher claws and making tea of Petilil leaves, but what about when we get to more human-like Pokémon, for instance, Mr. Mime? Check behind this spoiler for an example of how this might seem in real life. While this is safe-for-school/work, a warning: this is a whole lot less graphic (no blood or direct visual nastiness, in fact it looks a lot like a Wiki-How article) than going to a meat-packing plant or watching a butcher work, the concept might be unpleasant. Or maybe it won't be. I'm trying to figure that out. Spoiler: a recipe Okay, I'm considering going vegan now. I've seen fish gutted and deer dressed and chickens halved... but even this is making me rethink a lot. If you are a meat-eater, would you eat Pokémon, the same kinds of creatures that many people easily befriend and live alongside? Is it any different than eating a chicken who had a name? Is there some line to be drawn in what's acceptable and what isn't, like is Combusken okay but Blaziken isn't? And for the vegetarians, how about plant Pokémon? Sure, Bulbasaur is part animal, but what about Tropius bananas? Or whole Cherrim? Or Pumpkaboo pie? What about you, how would you be around technically safe-to-eat Pokémon?
I would only eat Pokémon IF I wasn't the one that killed it. If I kill any animal, I refuse to eat it knowing I took its life. But if it's handed to me for a meal, it's already dead by someone else's hand, might as well because I'm hungry. And if you're considering going vegan, then I can only cheer you on as you try. Being vegan is good for you, not only because it gives you a better mindset about animals, but your cholesterol intake will drop significantly.
Basculin are "remarkabkly tasty", according to the BW2 Pokédex. I do like me some steamed fish, soooooo...
I couldn’t eat a Pokémon. My best friend would be a 10 foot, 1 ton monster gator so I would probably burn my gator skin cowboy boots. Plus, Pokémon are very intelligent beings that feel more than the animals of our world. It just seems cruel to eat then since we already sue them to basically dog fight. I could live without meat, I like to eat beans so that’s would replace any protein from the meat.
I think it would be based on a Pokémon's intelligence. Like most fish Pokémon generally aren't that smart. Pidove will wait continuously for its trainer to give it a command when a command has already been given, because it immediately forgot about it. You can cut off a Slowpoke's tail and it won't even notice, and they grow back. A lot of plant Pokémon have... bodyparts? that can be detached and doesn't seem to hurt them. Like I think there's a sort of separation between the plant and animal parts of a grass Pokémon. I think Tropius shares its fruit, and there are a few others than grow other sorts of nuts or seeds, like Snover, that will share them. Aside from that, there are other plants and fruits that could be eaten too. There are animals that would mimic plants for camouflage, so just because Pumpkaboo exist, does that mean regular pumpkins don't?
What if there were "feral" Pokémon and "Intelligent" Pokémon? I've seen this in a fanfiction, and it gives us the explanation on it as it was a Pokémon eat Pokémon world, and it is looked down upon to eat a Intelligent Pokémon. The Feral one are the ones eaten, as they are stupid and get themselves killed.
I couldn't eat Pokémon. I would probably starve in the Pokémon world because of that. I do not eat something that I built a relationship with. Yes, pignite might make the best dang barbecue I ever tasted but, I could still never eat it.
If I remember correctly it was mentioned somewhere in Diamond/Pearl/Platinum that people used to eat Pokémon and would always make sure to completely pick the bones dry, then throw the bones into a river which was said to cause the Pokémon to be revived or something. Either way, I'd probably eat Pokémon without even it a second thought. In fact, I'm actually kind of curious as to what a lot of Pokémon would taste like.
