As we all know, Pokémon is an RPG. Duh. However, it separates itself from other RPGs like Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest by the fundamentals of it's battle system (any enemy team is composed with the same ingredients that a player team has access to).

This topic is about the mechanics of Pokémon that are prevalent in other RPGs, but rare or otherwise notable in Pokémon.

The mechanic I want to start with is SOS Battles. Many RPGs will introduce annoying enemies in that they can Call For Help, and yet Pokémon's battle system makes these enemies impractical, until this new battle type was introduced specifically to accomodate it.

There's no class system per se, unless you want to argue the eighteen types are themselves classes.
