Pokémon - Fabled Version

Bubbie swam for the rocky shore and shook out her long, wet hair as she rose from the water. She pulled her towel from her rucksack and toweled off, thinking about the Pokémon she had saw today and what she was planning to draw when she returned to her tree-fort where she spent a majority of her time. She had spotted a Gorebyss, a rare find, and was eager to draw it while it was fresh in her memory. After she felt that she was dry enough, Bubbie pulled on a pair of shorts and slung her pack over her shoulders and began to make the climb up the steep cliff that led up to Tranquil Hills Village, the town she called home. Hand over hand, she made her way up steadily over the precarious cliff, the sea breeze whipping her damp hair around her shoulders. She made this climb often, but it scared her nearly every time. Just one slip up, one tiny mistake, could cost her her life. She hefted herself over the edge of the cliff and onto the outskirts of town. She dusted herself off and looked over the rolling hills of her home town. It was a lovely sight, but one that she was growing increasing bored with. The warm sun and gentle breeze helped to dry her hair as she made her way past several flocks of wild Mareep that dotted the landscape.

She hefted herself up in her fort; really just a board she had wedged into a large tree so that she could sit comfortably and draw, and removed her bag from her back and rummaged through it. It took a little searching through the disorganized bag, but she had found her sketchbook and after a little more searching, she was able to procure a pencil. She opened her sketchbook and was greeted by a newspaper clipping she had nearly forgotten about, though she wasn't sure how she could forget. She read it again and a smile touched her lips. Professor Ivan was offering Pokémon away to eligible trainers! She was excited at the prospect to leave this dreary town and begin her own adventure. Bubbie wondered what kind of testing she would be put through and hoped it wasn't too hard. She flipped to an empty space in her sketchbook and began to draw the Gorebyss that she had seen, but her mind was filled with the thought of having her own Pokémon. She planned to make her way to High Pass City first thing in the morning.

 

Fierre sat alone in his room, pondering what he should do next. Ever since his trusted team was killed, he was reluctant to start over. The past still clung to him, causing doubt and bitterness to take hold. Tears threatened to flow from Fierre's eyes; he wiped them away before they could.

The 16 year old Trainer had left everything behind when he began his journey. From childhood friends to his own mother, losing the best friends he ever had left him angry, saddened, and guilty that he could have saved them. The tears returned, and Fierre let them flow gently, like a calm brook in the spring.

A knock at the door shook him out of his mourning. He slowly stood up, wiping away his tears; he wouldn't let anyone know had much his heart had broken. Fierre swung open the door to be greeted by the town postman. He got along quite well with the cheerful postman; his name was Gregory, and the man had introduced him to the town of Tranquil Hills. Gregory also allowed Fierre to partake in various service projects around the small village, giving the seasoned Trainer a small amount of recognition, and it allowed Fierre to take his mind off of recent events.

Fierre leaned against the doorway. "Hey, Greg," he said. "I thought you didn't deliver today."

Gregory smiled. "No, I usually don't," he exclaimed. "Now, I know you don't get the newspaper here, but I saw an article in it and, well, thought it might cheer you up." He handed the Trainer a slip of paper.

Fierre couldn't believe what he saw before him. A man named Professor Ivan was giving away Pokémon in High Pass City! The hope of redemption flickered within himself; he could redeem himself and avenge his fallen team.

He reached out and quickly hugged the postman. "Thank you, Gregory," he stated, "You've given me hope." He smiled. "Thanks." With that he closed the door. He decided that after some sleep, he would set out in the morning for High Pass City.

Gregory fixed his hat and began to walk home. He knew what troubled Fierre; the young Trainer explained his situation during a project. The 50 year old postman felt proud that he finally could help someone; his feeling of uselessness had ended.

 

Farrah looked absent-mindedly off into the endless ocean as she fed the shellder at her feet and the wingull on her shoulder. She was excited about her journey for High Pass City tomorrow. However, she was also nervous. She'd finally leave the place she called home and get her very own Pokémon! It was kind of nerve-wracking. Sure, she'd been around Pokémon her whole life, but training them, she was sure was a different story!

She tossed her long, golden hair behind her shoulder as she looked at a map of High Pass City. Apparently there was a trainer school there. Perhaps she'd stop by there and get some pointers on how to train a Pokémon. Maybe she'd even make friends! She smiled at the thought. Farrah wondered how many other first-time trainers would be there as well. She hoped they'd be nice to her.

"Her you go, boy." She cooed to the wingull, who she had given her last bit of Oran berry to. "Enjoy!" It ate the berry in delight before taking off into the skies. Farrah then headed up to her house, which wasn't far from the seaweed-covered seashore. Once when she was little, she'd made a dress from all the seaweed surrounding the small island.

Farrah was surprised that her grandparents handled her news of leaving the vilalge so well. She thought for sure they'd be angry. Instead, they were very supportive. Her grandmother encouraged her to follow her dreams, while her grandfather urged her to become the best Pokémon trainer ever. The two of them made her laugh. She loved them so much, and would miss them while she was gone. But of course, she'd visit!

As the small blonde made it into her bedroom, she packed some last minute things; extra clothes, toiletries, a Vanillite doll, her ipod, etc. Before packing her music player, she stared at it for a moment. For her village, a music player was high-tech stuff. She wondered what kind of new technology she'd find out about as she moved through the Kenshi region! Technology was very limited in her village.

She crawled into her bed, realizing how late it was. Farrah hoped that she would sleep well, she was so nervous about tomorrow! As she laid there, staring at the ceiling, she wondered when the next time she would lay in a really nice bed would be. She'd never slept outside before, but she was ready to try! Sleep finally found Farrah, and that night she dreamed of all the different Pokémon she would meet in the near future.

 

Her first night being in Calamity Bay hotel, people informed her of the cries the Gyarados made at night. If she were to be afraid of them, she should sleep with something playing on in the background. However that night, Stephanie wanted to hear the Gyarados yell into the night. So she had opened the windows to listen. To her surprise~ She heard them cry into the night! As weird as this sounds, she thought they sounded rather beautiful. Although they needed something to sing with a higher pitch, maybe a duet of some sort.

After a few long minutes of listening to them, she had a sudden burst of will. She wanted to join in with their singing. Stephanie had opened her windows wide open and she burst into a song. Just like in the Disney movies where the princess sings with the birds and the badgers. Lucky for her, no one threw tomatoes, cats, boots, or garbage at her. As the matter of fact, after all the singing was over with, someone was listening to her and clapped! She did a cutesy bow and went to sleep for the night.

Next morning, she awoke a bit later than she had wanted to. Quickly, she got dressed, stuffed a bagel in her mouth, grabbed a juice box from the cafe and took off for the hills. She wanted to get to the professor quickly! Stephanie wanted to see what kind of Pokémon he had for her to choose from. Then the thought of Which Pokémon she wanted to get!

As she ran towards High Pass City, she was contemplating on which Pokémon she wanted to choose! SHould she go with Water? Fire? Grass? "Ooo! I wonder what he has!" She squealed excitedly as her feet picked up the pace. Her determination overruled anything else. She was going to get to the lab and she was going to get a Pokémon! Then she can continue on with her journey with creating a team for performances!

 

After Bubbie finished her drawing, she admired it for a bit in the fading light. She smiled and stuffed her sketchbook into her bag and pulled on her shirt before scrambling down the tree and heading home. Tomorrow was the big day and she wondered if she was going to get any sleep with the excitement. She reached her home, a small ranch on top of a hill. She entered and rushed straight to her room to pack, giving her mother a quick 'hello' as she passed by the kitchen. She opened her bag and emptied of the things she might not need, and filled it with others she would. Clothes, toiletries, extra pencils were a must. She stuffed her bag full and took inventory around her room before she was satisfied she had packed everything. She was glad her rucksack was big! She washed up and crawled into bed, and she laid awake predictably, excited for the days ahead.

Late the next morning, Bubbie was frustrated to find out that her mother had let her sleep in. "Moooom!' She whined, running down into the kitchen after she had gotten dressed, pulling on her boots, her bag slung over one shoulder.

"What? You need your sleep!" she chuckled and handed her a plate of toast. "Here, eat something. And I made you this." She handed her a bag of food, which Bubbie slipped into her already full bag. She'd discover its contents later, but for now she was too much in a hurry to look now.

"Thanks mom! I'll eat breakfast on the way!" Bubbie hugged her mother and grabbed the toast. "Love you!"

"Love you too honey. Be safe! Write often!"

"I will!" and with that, Bubbie was out the door, sprinting towards High Pass City. She slowed when she had reached Route One, munching on her toast and watching the wild Pokémon in the area frolic about. When she could see the city rise in the horizon, she quickened her pace again. She slowed when she noticed a lady and a boy talking, taking up the gates that led into the city.

 

Sitting on a extremely high up old oak tree branch, Kat strummed her guitar lightly. She hummed slightly as she looked out over the area around her. It was beautiful, but it brought sadness to her heart, as she remembered how her grandfather told her stories about their home region. Kat loved hearing her grandfathers stories, but he was gone and so was her grandmother. Kat sighed sadly as her thoughts drifted to her grandparents, but she quickly shook her head. I can't be thinking about them right now. I have to pack for my journey... She thought sadly, strapping her guitar to her back and proceeded down the tree.

At the base of the tree, her Pokémon friends waited for her. Ellie, a Patrat, squealed when she saw Kat. Jumping up on her shoulder, Ellie hugged Kat's face, "Patrat! Trat Trat Patrat!" (OMG! Our little Skitty is going on her journey!) The little normal type squealed in Kat's ear. The teenager laughed alittle and patted Ellie's head softly, "Yeah, I am." She said alittle sourly, which caused Matthew, the Murkrow, to land on Kat's free shoulder. "Krow Krow? Murkrow? Mur Krow?." (My dear, are you not excited? I thought this was your dream? So, what's bothering you, my dear?) Kat looked at Matthew, then sighed. "I... Don't really know. I mean, i'm excited and all that, but...." She sighed again, this time sitting down at the base of the tree.

Both Matthew and Ellie hopped off of Kat's shoulders and join the semi circle in front of her. Mia the Hoppip, sat on Kat's head, "Hop Hoppip?" (Could it possibly be because your scared of leaving the village?) Kat shook her head gently, careful not to shake the Hoppip off her head. "No, it's not that. It's just... I don't think i'm ready. I mean, granddad only pasted away a few weeks ago. So, I don't think i'm ready for a journey just yet." Kat said, pulling her legs into her body and hiding her head alittle. This caused the Pokémon to look at each other with worry, sense it wasn't like Kat to be depressed like she was.

Suddenly, a flash of blue and red shook the ground as it landed in front of Kat. The girl blinked as a large Salamence looked down at her, "Salamence? Sala Salamence? Mence Salamence!" (How do you plan on getting stronger then? Would you rather go against your grandfather's wishes and remain here, in the village, for the rest of your life? Milady, forgive my rudeness, but get off your ass and follow you damn dream!) The mighty dragon bellowed, causing the tree's to shake. Kat blinked at the dragon, unable to form words. Luckily, Matthew and Ellie came to her rescue.

"Murkrow Krow! Murkrow!" (Vanguard, that was uncalled for! You have no right to yell at Kat like that!) The Murkrow cawed as he open his wings and glared at the much bigger Pokémon. Ellie stood next to the black bird and buffed out her cheek in annoyance, "Trat Patrat! Pa Patrat! Patrat!" (Matthew's right! You had no right to yell or curse at Kat like that! She has every right to be scared!) Kat blinked at the argument in front of her. As the Salamence, Vanguard, bellowed angrily at the two much small Pokémon, Kat couldn't help but laugh alittle. The Pokémon looked at her in slight confusion.

The girl smiled at the Pokémon as she took the Hoppip off her head and held Mia in her arms, "Thanks for caring guys. I can always count on all of you." She smiled sweetly at everyone, saving the Salamence for last. She knew the dragon cared about her, but Van had a funny way of showing his affection for others. Van blinked at the smiling human. He coughed and looked away, causing Kat to giggle at his blush. Matthew looked at Kat with concern, "Krow Murkrow? Krow Krow Murkrow." (Are you sure your up for this? You don't have to leave if you don't want to.) Ellie nodded, but didn't say anything more as she continued to glare at the Salamence. Kat nodded gently, "I'm sure, Matthew. The sooner I leave the village, the sooner i'll be back." She smiled as she patted the dark/flying type's head.

Setting Mia on the ground gently, Kat patted Ellie's head causing the normal type to start to sniffle. The grass/flying type patted Ellie's back gently, "Hop Hoppip Pip." (It'll be ok Ellie. Like Kat said, she'll be back and she'll have some new friends with her too.) Mia giggled at the thought and Ellie soon join in. Kat smiled at the two, I swear, those two are sisters even if their not blood related. She chuckled under her breath. She turned to face the Salamence, who didn't bother to look in her direction, "Van, come on. Theirs no need to be upset about this." She said, taking the dragon's head in her hands forcing the dragon/flying type to look at her. His eyes were blurry.

"Sala Salamence Sala." (I don't know what your talking about. I'm not said at all. In fact, i'm happy that your leaving. Now you won't be pestering me.) Van said, his voice cracking at the end. Kat smiled softly and kissed the Salamence's nose, causing him to blink his eyes at her and for his blush to deepen. "Weren't you the one just yelling at me to follow my dream?" She asked playfully, but Van just looked at her, still slightly frozen from the kiss. Kat chuckled and patted his head, "Well, I guess i'll go pack my... stuff......and?" Kat blinked when a Noctowl, Xander, placed a duffel bag on the ground next to her. He hooted at her gleefully, which caused her to smile, "Thank you Xander."

Picking up the bag, Kat looked at her friends one last time. Matthew cawed at her, sad to see his friend leave, but happy that she was following her dream. Ellie wiped away fresh tears as she looked up at Kat. Mia patted the Patrat's back gently as she smiled up at the girl. Van looked at the ground, upset that he had yelled at Kat and yet she had already forgiven him. Xander sat up in a tree with a goofy smile on his face and his head tilted at a 180 degree angle. Kat sucked in a deep breath, "Alright, I guess this is goodbye for now. I'll miss you guys." All the Pokémon spoke up at the same time making a loud mush of voices, but the message was clear. (We'll miss you too!) Kat took one last look at her life long friends, smiled brightly, turned on her heels and started toward High Pass City. The place where her dream would really start.

 

Fierre woke somewhat early in the day; in his joy he had forgotten to pack supplies for his new journey. Groggily he put on his clothes and began packing clothing, food, and other necessities, which took up a good half an hour. After everything was packed away into his faded red backpack, he slipped it on and began to head for the door.

A glimmer caught his eye and he whirled towards the object. An ameythyst necklace, shaped like a thunderbolt, lay on the dresser. It was the very same necklace that Fierre's mother gave to him before he set out to Johto. With a smile, he donned the shining memoir and set out for High Pass City.

As he approached the main gates, he noticed a young boy and a woman talking; they took up most of the entrance space. He began to jog towards the cityscape; distracted as he was, he didn't notice the young girl as he crashed head-on into her. They both fell; Fierre twisted himself so he would land on his side. As he got up and brushed himself off, he took notice of the one he hit. It was a young girl, massive glasses took up the majority of her face, and her rucksack was filled to the brim with various items. (((That's you, Bubbie.)))

Fierre walked up and offered her a hand up. "Sorry about that," he apologized. "Didn't see you there." After a moment he added, "My name's Fierre. You headed to the lab as well?"

 

As Stephanie walked onwards, she opened her PokeGear and looked at the map. She was heading in the right direction, which was good. "So if I keep going in this direction, I should be arriving there soon." She paused for a moment and cheered excitedly. "OH! I wonder what Pokémon I am going to get?! YEEE!!" She squealed again before she took off at a fast pace once more.

As she was running one of her sister's had called her up. She picked up the call. "Hey sis! I haven't made it to the place yet. But I got here safely!"

"Well that's good to hear." Her sister's sarcastic remark was normal for Stephanie. "Too bad I had to put up with Kiki. She wanted to know if you were safe then got mad at me for not calling you. Meh. If you didn't pick up, I was going to tell her that you were eaten by a Gyarados."

"Oh you're so kind." Stephanie scrunched her nose when her sister said this. "By the way, Gyarados have good voices~"

"Oh brother. They sound like croaking monsters from an alien movie. Well nice to know you're alive. I'm going to let you go before Kiki hears you." She paused. "I'm still going to tell her that you were eaten by a Gyarados. Ciao." And with that, Stephanie's sister hung up.

"Oh darn! I wanted to say something. Oh well. Maybe I'll call her later~ For now. ONWARDS FEET!" She pointed and returned to her running towards the lab.

Eventually, Stephanie came to a peak of a hill. She placed her hands on her knees and took a breath. All the running really wore her out. But her excitement was still there in full throttle. She wanted to get to the labs soon! After all, she wanted her choice of Pokémon! She looked up and noticed the booming city that lay several miles below her. The sight of the energy that radiated from the city was just thrilling! People could be seen walking about, the life. Everything about this city so far, was amazing.

"It's so much bigger than Celedon and Goldenrod city, combined!!" Stephanie chimed as she continued to gaze upon the beauty of this here city. Her heart was racing fast! She let out a little childish giggle as this thought came to her. "Ooooh! My sister's are sooooooo not going to believe this when I tell them! They're going to be jealous! Hehe!" She thrusted her fist into the air into another one of her excited cheers. "YEAH! ALMOST THERE!" With that said and done, she had started to jog down the hill and towards the city. She could feel her legs tiring out from all the running, but determination and excitement took her over. She will only feel it when things settle down for her.

 

It was a bright and early in the morning in Seaweed Grove Villiage. Although Ashlin was nervous, she kept packing her bag for her biggest adventure ever. She packed many cooking supplies, snacks, and a journal. Since she never even left her own yard before, this was going to be extremely hard for Ashlin. She knew though, she had to be more brave if she ever wanted to fulfill her dream of seeing the beautiful dragon Pokémon she's only read about in books.

She knew If she could reach High Pass City, then she could get her first Pokémon to help her on her adventure. Ashlin was worried about many things...Being on her own for the first time, leaving the house, but most of all she worried about what kind of "test" she would be put through in order to receive the starter Pokémon. She feared she would reach High Pass City and then failing the test. But nonetheless, she wanted to at least give it her best try!

Ashlin never had any Pokémon battling experience but it was something she was willing to learn. Even though she's shy and timid, a big adventure would be good for her. She grabbed her bag, stood up, and was ready to make her way to High Pass City. She hugged her grandma who was watching her since she was very young and they both said their good byes. Ashlin took her first step outside and her adventure began!

 

Farrah rushed to the gates of High Pass City, remembering the conversation she had with her grandparents that morning. Her grandmother had cried, saying her little girl was grown-up. Her grandfather just smiled and hugged her. They told her the usual things: get to bed on time, be wary of strangers, keep your Pokémon safe, dont travel without your Pokémon, call often, be your very best, and of course, that they loved her. Farrah was truly grateful of everything her grandparents had done for her, so she promised to do as they said.

As the young teen arrived at the gates, a tall, slender woman with blue hair greeted her. "Hi sweetie!" she cooed, in a seemingly fake sweet voice. "Welcome to High Pass City, where technology brims! What brings you here, young lady?" The woman had a large smile plastered on her face.

The blonde teen responded politely with a smile. "Hello! Your city seems beautiful from what I can see from here! My name's Farrah, and I'm here to get my first Pokémon from the lab!"

The blue-headed woman's tone suddenly changed. Her replies were short and sharp. "Oh. A Pokémon from him. Have fun finding you way there."

Farrah was going to respond, but the woman pushed her into the city, and then turned to greet the next person entering the city. Farrah "Hmph'd" and then opened her map of the City. It was much larger than her hometown! She gasped as she looked the tall buildings and the many people bustling about. She wasn't used to so much activity! And the technology- there was so much of it! It was limited at home, but here..wow! The most high-tech thing at home was her pokegear! Here, people were bustling about with cell phones and tablets, and there were quite a few electronic billboards here and there on buildings. Farrah stood in the middle of the street gawking at her surroundings for a long time.

"Get out of the way!" Many snooty people said, as they hurried by her. Farrah blushed and mumbled an apology, before moving out of the main line of traffic. She glanced back at her map, trying to find her location.

"So I'm here.... and I need to go there." She moved a slender finger along the route she needed to take. From what she could tell, it was about a half a mile's walk. Farrah was fine with this; it meant more of the city to look at!

All the technology that surrounded her amazed Farrah! She had never seen so much. She had seen them in pictures, but never in person! After her Pokémon journey, the young girl knew she had to live in a city like this. After seeing all these magnificent buildings, people and technology, there was no way she could go back to a quiet life.

Glancing back at her map, Farrah noticed she was coming close to the lab. "All right!" she thought. She wondered if any other people would be there for a Pokémon, too. Farrah was brought from her thoughts when she heard running from behind her.

Farrah turned to see a small boy behind her, looking as though he was heading for the lab as well. He had a child-like face, with soft brown eyes and hair to match. She wondered what his age was, and wondered why he was running. She decided to match his pace as he came up beside her. "Hi!" Farrah said between steps. "I'm Farrah! Are you heading to the lab too?" She desperately wanted new friends, and hoped this boy wasn't snooty like the other people she had run into so far today!
