Maria eventually signed up for the sparring competition. As she did, she had to put away her candy to do so, and she also noticed Evergreen was missing. A shame, but Maria wasn't worried either.

What Maria didn't know was that Evergreen was watching Kirito the whole time.

 

Seline followed Brock towards the spectators, finally solidifying the fact that she was not participating with the others. "Good luck, guys."

Maria held onto her sheath quite nervously as she stepped up to where the participants were gathered. She normally wasn't used to being the centre of attention to so many people. Plus, there were a ton of spectators too - maybe too much! With all that was going on, specifically with the number of competitions, Maria was almost confused as to where to go. Fortunately, she found a group of people who all had either a sword or staff equipped, so she supposed that must be where the sparring competition was. Now, if only Evergreen could join her... but she knew that wasn't going to happen.

 

"Thank you, I can see fine from here." Seline smiled, taking a seat. Azelia started to rest on Seline's head, to get a better view.

 

Even though there was plenty of preparation to do with the rest of the sparring competitors, Maria's attention was focused on the arena itself where there was a set of foot racing to do. So this was how huge games worked! However, she was guided by the marshal towards her respective group, where Maria was subsequently asked to surrender her sword temporarily for examination. Cheers could be heard from the crowd, but Maria paid little attention to them.

It had been a while since Maria heard her name called out in full. She dusted off her cloak before approaching her opponent. I have a bad feeling about this, Maria thought. Her opponent looked intimidating with that armour! Despite that, Maria drew out her iron sword and held it to her side. This Ferdinand Grey probably didn't know the three forms of sword style, so Maria played it safe and went for the balanced offensive/defensive form: the Alpha Style.

"Here we go..." she muttered.

Kirito watched maria. While waiting for his turn. He was eager to go fight. Deciding he would mostly use thunder and fire attacks. While thinkig of his spells

As such was with sparring, Maria deflected the blow from her opponent Ferdinand and attempted to parry her attack. The whole point was to get her opponent to yield, and that would suffice to win.

 

Below, Maria lunged at Ferdinand just as the latter did the same thing. The sound of their swords clashing rang out through the arena, but as it happened, the jumping blow shocked Maria's wrist and she dropped her sword. So this was why she usually sticks with the Delta Style! Ferdinand almost pressed the advantage by pointing his sword at Maria's neck, but Maria rolled on her side to grab her dropped sword and recover! Soon enough, the sparring continued with cautious strikes between them, with Maria jumping to her feet and continuing the dual.

She kept retaining her form and struck where needed. A balance of offence and defence was always good, even though it was a little risky, as it allowed extra force needed where necessary. More than once would Maria strike with one hand, and other times she would with two. She even saw an opportunity when Ferdinand charged right at her like the first time and she jumped aside to dodge the charge, and sticking her foot out to cause the young swordsman to trip and fall. With all that Dragonair armour he was wearing, the fall was heavy, and Maria pointed her blade to his head shortly after.
