So I've been catching up with the XY season of the anime (I'm 90 episodes in now) and it has come to my attention that, unlike older seasons, the Pokémon themselves have almost more personality than the human characters themselves. In previous seasons, it felt as if Pokémon were more like creatures and partners and so much being with outspoken personalities. Prime examples of these are Chespin from XY and Oshawott from Best Wishes. After watching 90 episodes, I can also conclude the focus of most 'filler' episodes revolve around the gang helping Pokémon, instead of people like in the other seasons. Now I've not watched anything from Best Wishes, but the seasons before that I don't remember Pokémon having so much personality compared to the human characters. Honestly, I liked it better when Pokémon were simply portaied as battle partners, rather than having complex emotions equal to humans.
Have you noticed this too? What do you think?

I've noticed a little bit(haven't watched much of the anime lately), but personally, I like the Pokémon having just as much personality as humans. For one, Pokémon created this world, and dominate it by far. Humans have survived by basically centralizing their entire economy around Pokémon. And especially legendaries, I like them to have emotions.
It's totally not so I can ship them together

Nah, I like Pokémon having the emotions. It's not a people's world, you know! And giving the Pokémon personalities makes the anime a whole lot more... Pokémon-y, as opposed to having them being side creatures only aiding Ash. After all, "Oooh! You're my best friend!"!
