Pokémon Pronunciations

Aside from the obligatory Arceus debate, I've heard Hi-dray-gun as well as Hi-Dry-gun for Hydreigon. I've also herd Die-noh and Dee-noh for it's first evolution.

I always pronounced Rayquaza as Ray-Kway-zah, but I recently watched a JWittz video where he said Ray-Kwah-zah. My pronounciation is said to be canon according to Pokédex 3DPro and the anime. *shrug*

 

I used to think Kyogre was pronounced as Ki-yo-gre until someone corrected me. That was pretty embarassing...

I still can't help but pronounce Rayquaza as Rey-kwa-za even if I know it's supposed to be Rey-kwey-za.

 

Rayquaza is the same for me. Even in the anime, they say Ray-Qway-Za, but I honestly prefer Ray-Qwah-Za. I used to say Die-Al-Ga and Ar-Key-Us, but now I prefer Dee-Al-Ga and and Ar-See-Us. Not sure why. I still say Pol-Key-Ya instead of Pal-Key-A. The second pronunciation just sounds weird to me.

 

Many of these are my ideas on what people have said above, since I can't think of many off the top of my head.
Arceus: I say Are-Kay-Oos, the way it would be pronounced in Roman Latin.
Hydreigon and friends: their names include the German numbers for 123, so I pronounce those as the Germans would. Ein (Ine) Zvei (Zvy) Drei (Dry). I'm pretty sure this is a set-in-stone way to pronounce these.
Hoenn Mascots: I say Kye-Ogre and Ray-Kwa-Za. Kyogre to relate to the Japanese word "Kairi" (which has some meaning connected to the ocean) and Rayquaza because the other way just plain sounds silly.
Lugia: Does the G have a sound like "go" or "giant?" I follow the "go" sound of G.
Regice: Reg-ice or Regi-ice? I fully pronounce that first Regi syllable to make it fit with the others. Regiïce, I suppose.
Suicune: I still have no idea how to pronounce Suicune. Today I'm pretty sure it's Swee-Koon, but back in the day I ran with Soo-ih-Soon.

I think many of these legendaries become difficult because they try to have the same name across languages, which makes them seem unnatural to many speakers.

 

I called Druddigon Drud-igon and also some other Pokémon wrong... or me and my friends have debates... i think it was Xerneas i called it Xer-neas he called it X- er- nea-s yeah ... i dont know why

 

Lol, oh dear; I don't hear Pokémon names spoken often and there's no one to correct to me, so a lot of mispronunciations mentioned I've had up to this point. ORZ I won't be budging on Ray-kwey-za or Drud-igon though, I think those pronunciations are more fun. ^.^
I think my absolute worst oops was thinking there was more A's and T's in Rattata, for the longest time I called it Rat-ta-tat-a until I popped in Pokémon Stadium 2 some 5-6 years ago and heard the announcer guy pronounce it. c,:

 

I pronounce Arceus as Are-see-us. It's interesting that the movie pronounces it as Ark-ee-us but Battle Revolution pronounced it Are-see-us.

I always pronounce Mesprit as Mess-spirit, even though it's not supposed to be, haha.

 

On a hilarious note, my friends called kangaskhan Kang-Shu-Kong. Really not seeing how but... yeah they also called Giovanni Gin-O-Bull-Ee.

I always struggled with Deino the Die-No vs. Dee-No. Still not sure what's right but I call it Die-No. A literal dinosaur, a dino. Deino... it works.
I used to call Giratina Guy-Ra-Tine-A too

 

Back when the second Generation first arrived, so many people at school pronounced Togetic as "To-Jeh-Tic". This really annoyed me at the time.

 

Iget confused with togekiss (IMO a weird name either way) toga kiss? Toh jeh kiss?

Hydreigon- Hee-dry-gon,
Arceus- Ar-kee-us,
Giratina- Kir-a-tee-na,
Kyogre- Kai-oh-gre,
Dialga- Dee-al-ga,
Rayquaza- Ray-kwa-zah.
Xerneas- Zer-njas

Then a few random ones that I'm pretty sure of I mispronounce, but keep doing it anyway;
Dewgong- Jew-gong
Cradily- Cruh-day-lee
Bastiodon- Bas-toy-don
Azelf- Ah-self
Espeon- Es-pjun
Yveltal- Y(as in high in the sky)-vil-tal

 

I used to pronounce Honedge as Hon-hedge until someone told me I was saying it wrong the entire time.
I was so embarrassed, haha.
