So Pokémon bought a 1+ minute for the Super Bowl this year. Now I don't live in the US nor do I care about American Football, but apparently this ad costed about 10 million dollars and even though it only really airs in the US, there's still tens of millions of people going to see this. They uploaded the ad in advance on YT two days ago, here it is:

Honestly I think it's kinda weird and it doesn't reflect the Pokémon products that well, but for such a large and diverse audience it's perfect. I bet there'll be tons of young adults watching and going "Omg Pokémon's still a thing? That's so cool!", and with the release of the VG versions of their favorite childhood games and the upcoming release of Pokémon Go, which I'm sure will be a huge success if they do it right Pokémon can be a boost again.
    What do you think?

I think there's gonna be a shitload of jokes about it when it shows, because until the Pokéball shows up, most people are gonna be thinking "oh, another Sports commercial, wait, this is a Pokémon commercial?!? wow..."

I'm so excited for the big reboot Pokémon's going to get, and I really loved this commercial. Although it doesn't really point to anything in particular, I really loved the whole "I can do that" notion, as well as all the nods towards Pokémon hidden within the ad, such as the "Learn to Surf, HM03" sign, the Nidoking chess piece, the football guernsey having the numbers 20, 19 and 96 on them, the Volcano Badge on one of the football helmets, the sign above the change room that said "Like No One Ever Was", and the ads for Moomoo Milk and Rare Candy in the Tokyo scene. Yes, I listed them all, and yes I noticed them all. I'm a stickler for details.

Apparently its now 100 percent offical that fish Pokémon don't need water at all.

I really liked the ad, I feel that it has a good emotional vibe. The Pokémon references help people rewatch it, and even though it doesn't reveal it's backer til the end, instead seeming like an odd Nike style commercial, I think it works as a way of showing that Pokémon fans are everywhere and can become anything, finally tying Pokémon to it by encouraging people to become their very best (by buying merch... kinda) But it's a fun little commercial, I'll probably try to watch it real time with other people (even though I'm not a huge football fan, don't even know who's playing really) just to see people react.

You missed the truck... So did I, though, to be honest. In the first scene, the boy runs past a black truck with the ancient mew symbols over it(I believe).

Also on the TV, it was reporting from 'Kanto' and there was also a 'Breaking News: Roadblock on Route 12' on the screen

    That's it, I think.

I see ways this trailer could be for Pokémon GO, but they're all thin. However, since the music stops abruptly at the end, I think we can expect *some* sort of title drop at the very end, for some product or other

First; that Nidoking chess piece. Too perf. tOO pERF.
Second; who do I have to bribe for said piece?

    *ahem*

Huh. For a Pokémon ad, it's a pleasant nostalgia throwback, with huge Pokémon GO vibes in it. Trying to appeal to a new generation of fans whilst also appeasing the old faithfuls for sure. Bold move, Nintendo. V. bold.

Yeah, the people at my Pokémon Club all think the "real" ending was cut off with Pokémon GO's release date or something. Really interesting commercial though!

I think the commercial itself is pretty darn cool! I missed all the hidden stuff that wasn't obvious (pretty much only saw the "like no-one ever was" sign...) but still enjoyed it. Watching it again and catching the quick references was fun, and that drumbeat throughout the commercial is really nice.

Overall, I can't wait to be inevitably watching the Superbowl with my parents when this commercial comes on. They're probably going to be so caught off guard when the Pokéball gets shown haha xD

It is an epic commercial--my favorite part is the callback to the first English theme in the locker room.

We know that the ad will air around the 3rd quarter of the superbowl, so that's all I'm watching. I don't really like football much...

I really loved this advertisement and noticed all the hidden Pokémon references there. I believe it was really intense, and awesome! It was enjoyable and a lot of detail went into it. I look forward to Pokémon in the future!

    I love this ad!
..okay, that's kinda weird to say, but it's true.
Like many of the others have stated, I like the hidden references in it, but that's not what I like most. I mostly love how they gave this commercial a really all-round and mature feeling. This way, Pokémon could appear to people as something that has grown too. This way, future fans may encounter the wonderful world that is Pokémon without thinking of it as "just another video game for children".
