In this thread, I will post questions about my upcoming Pokémon ROM Hack. By replying to this, you will really help us out, as we can't do everything by myself. Please mind one thing: Don't just give one-word answers. Give a well thought-out explanation about why your answer would be the best one for in our ROM Hack.

The current question is: Does the name Pokémon: The Gathering sound too similar to the card game Magic: The Gathering?

You should give us a little bit more information on the ROM Hack. I would like to know if their will be some large plot between the five regions or if is just the original plots. If I can get a little more info, I would be glad to help :).

Unfortunately, a Pokémon ROM Hack already exists with the name Genesis. Otherwise, we would've definitely chosen that name!

Anyway, we have chosen a name for the ROM Hack: POKÉMON: THE GATHERING! This is because is fits many of the story elements in our ROM Hack. Regions, Gym Leaders, Evil Teams, Elite Fours, Legendary Pokémon... Everything comes together in this game.

The new question is: Bruno is the Elite Four member in both Kanto and Johto, which collides with the storyline of the game. How could we solve this issue?

I don't know the plot, but it seems as if he can't appear twice. 1. He could have a son he trained to be like him, who uses a similar team. 2. If it's a disappearance, maybe he somehow reappeared.

As a hardcore MTG player, I AM LAUGHING SO HARD RIGHT NOW YOU HAVE NO IDEA XD XD

I believe I pitched this to you earlier, but have RGBY and BW happen before their sequels. As I look at the game's official timeline, you could do something similar to:

    RGBY / FRLG

    BW

    RSE / ORAS

    DPPt

GSC / HGSS (3 years after RGBY / FRLG)

    B2W2 (2 years after BW)

As for the League differences between Kanto and Johto, you could in theory do what they did in GSC / HGSS: get 8 Badges in one region, battle the Elite 4, then get 8 more Badges to battle them again, only with more diverse (and possibly more powerful) lineups. Then go battle Red/Leaf on Mount Silver.

The biggest issue I see (besides the Red/Leaf being a possible playable character thing) is that, iirc, you want to leave all your Pokémon you used in previous regions behind and start anew with each region. Kanto and Johto are interconnected in so many ways, you'd have to basically cut all connections between the two regions (like the Magnet Train) if you still wanted it to work like that for those two.

As soon as you've played through the entire storyline of both Kanto and Johto, you'll unlock all transportation methods between the two regions, including the Magnet Train, so that's not really an issue.

The problem with the Kanto/Johto Elite Four is because it collides with the storyline. In the game, you'll go around the regions, defeating Gym Leaders as usual, but not without a reason. You're actually trying to gather all Gym Leaders at your side, building up a huge army of powerful trainers to take on the combination of all evil organizations in a final, all-out confrontation: All the evil organizations vs all Gym Leaders, Elite Four members etc.

After you defeat a Gym Leader in battle, he/she will acknowledge your skills, and believe your words. Then, they will join your side, leave their Gym behind, and gather at a Central Platform. In the end of the game, this Central Platform will be a huge area, with many powerful trainers together. And that's where my problem lays: If you defeat and convince Bruno in Kanto, how can he still be in Johto? This same problem occurs with Lance, who is both Elite Four member in Kanto, and Champion in Johto.

Took me a while to explain the situation, but I hope this clarifies what the exact issue is :)

I think you should either create a child or apprentice for them. Or, you.could have them be tricked by the evil teams into not believing you and then you having to battle them again to bring them back to your side. It would add in a plot twist.

This actually isn't a bad idea, especially if you consider that in the manga, Koga was Giovanni's subordinate for some time.

Thanx to everyone who gave their ideas on the issue! I have decided to solve this problem like this: The first time you defeat Bruno and Lance, they won't immediately trust you, and they aren't certain about joining you. Therefore, they decide to instead move to the other region (depending on whether you went to Kanto or Johto first). If you defeat them a second time, they will believe you, and join your side. This solution makes sense, because Bruno and Lance are the only Elite Four members to ever appear in two separate leagues, making them twice as important.

The new question is: Does the name Pokémon: The Gathering sound too similar to the card game Magic: The Gathering?

Yes. Yes it does. I thought you had actually named the game after MTG to be honest.

Pokémon: The Gathering...I will use all my Constructivism to say this...This name has a low level of imagination (I ruined it sorry). You are putting all the regions, all the villains and many important characters, doing an awesome combination. But to name something the meaning of the name is not the most important factor. For example when the parents name their sons they don't use a terrible name (this is almost always some people do it and then the bullying attacks their sons) because the meaning of the name is important. A name/tittle come once you understand of what/who are you talking, the feelings that the person/thing gives to you, I am not saying that you didn't do it I am saying that this sounds like you didn't do it. There are many names that have meaning and also sound good, yes, that is the point: Find balance between what sound good and the meaning of what are we talking. For example (non a suggestion but take it if you want) Pokémon: Between Dimensions or Pokémon: Crossed Dimensions have a combination of meaning and also sounds great for the common ear of the public, and that is the point attract the massive public (at least LV public) with a good tittle that must invite the users to play the game.
Sorry If I sound a little rude but it is hard to give a consistent opinion without having a little of criticism on the suggestions at the moment that you try to help someone to improve, and...I have a bad English Sorry XD

Pokémon: the Gathering doesn't roll of the tongue as easily... Too many syllables, I think, for that name to work.
Pokémon: Forces Unite or something like that might fit a bit better.

As for new names, I believe I already pitched this to you, but what about Pokémon: Dawning Glory?

Yeah, me and Gengar are super hardcore MTG players, and to be honest, at first glance, I thought this was a Pokémon Magic crossover where gymleaders were Planeswalkers, and such. And yes I am also laughing my ass off. The title was so similar I thought it was a crossover.

Yeah but we are losing our focusing XD. We must concentrate in what Astral is asking.

He has been working so hard on this, I believe that he deserves our love and help :) Lets do this! :D

That's what i was thinking too (the crossover). Maybe "Pokémon: Reunion Ties". Its a reunion since people are going back to the old ones on a personal level, and you are tying the regions together.
