Pokémon Violet Sky POLL - Authentic vs Unique

Hey guys! First of all, I want to thank you all the nice support we get for this project. Achromatic had a nice idea in creating the game, EmeraldGlee supported the project with some pictures, and the others, like Pokechu and the Staff all gave their response and ideas for Violet Sky. However, there is something we need to discuss before we start our project.

As you know, some of the member had an opposing opinion about the game itself. We agreed that the graphic should be as authentic as possible: even thought I wanted something different, the others shared their point of view, and I agreed that the graphic is a part of the game, so we will base the game's engine on FireRed. HOWEVER, the gameplay is totally different.

We had different opinions there too: while a part of the group said that the game should be as authentic as possible, with only 1 or 2 minor changes, an other group said that the game should be as original as possible, breaking the limits of the engine and creating something totally new.

My opinion is the latter: I think it would make more sense to create a totally different game from the others. If I want to play a clone of a game, then I'd play the original instead. However, I can understand those who are supporting the authentic game's idea: it'd be a Pokémon game, but with the staff and members in the main role.

So it's up to you to decide what kind of game do you want: an authentic to the original games, or a game with totally unique and new ideas? You choose!

 

There is a difference between the storyline and the gameplay. You can keep the story, the maps, and so on, but do changes in the gameplay. Fakemon are a good example for this: mostly, they aren't related to the storyline, but a good addition to the gameplay. Different catching methods, travelling ways, and so on can be good addition too. I have no concrete ideas at the moment, but if I have something direct, I'll share it as soon as possible.

For the last sentence: I can agree that you want to make it for as much people as possible, but you also need to make up your mind and decide who you really want to game for. Even if you want to make it for a bigger audience, I think naming the characters after the staff is not a problem at all. As it won't change anything, but as a community member, it could be interesting to see at least the names of the guys and gals we know.

 

I'm not a fan of real life cameos either, but I asked the others if they want to see it or not. It's an important part of game making to know what the others are interested in or not.

 

Whoa, whoa, don't be so harsh. It's just asking the opinion of others, don't need to be mad. You need to consider some ideas if you want to go abroad with developing: deciding why they are unnecessary, what kind of ideas do you want to put in the game, what do you want to keep, and so on. It will be still a Pokémon game, not a "Lake Valor fan game", as it will still has the same development and will be in the same universe. However, some gameplay elements could be changed. Just an example, I don't say if it should be included or not, but varying the breeding system could be an option (getting hybrids instead of fixed Pokémon, a good way to get unique Pokémon). Something like that. It don't need to be as drastical as the example, but all of these ideas will be appreciated by bigger audiences too.
