Pokémon X and Y Discussion Thread

I'm really hoping that we don't get to catch the old Pokémon until post-game. I think playing through with just the new Pokémon would be much better than with all of them, as it really helps to introduce them, rather than throwing everything together. We've seen all the existing ones more than enough, so something new is going to be nice.
I'm don't really like any of the starters beside Fennekin, but I suppose I can't really say that until I see their evolutions. I can almost guarantee that Fennekin is Fire/Psychic, as seen in the trailer, and Chespin will likely be Grass/Dark, leaving Froakie as Water/Fighting. If that's how they lay it out, it's definitely going to be a fun generation. All of those types balance each other out, and hit their elemental weaknesses super-effectively on the secondary-typing side. I'm really looking forward to it!

 

I sort of agree with this I'd actually like to be a bit more restricted this time.

look ok, im not a big fan of 5 gen i feel like its the same for 6 gen, it looks like its in the really world (feelings: so~so), the only really good i saw was mix in of other Pokémon gen's, but im still going to end up buy the game

 

I actually like the concept of X and Y.
At first I was like
"SRSLY. LETTERS." and kind of assumed that they ran out of ideas and chose two random opposites.
Then I realised just how interesting the idea of X and Y is, and that no one was expecting it. The Pokémon Company sure is good at suprises nowadays.

Does anyone know if there's going to be a tour for this game? Especially since it's a new region, just like when they had the tour for Pokémon Black and White.

 

Nothing confirmed this early but I think it's possible sometime in the coming months, yeah. Would be a nice thing to do. I imagine they'll be releasing bits of new info every few weeks/every month until it comes out to keep people talking, I could see a tour being part of that.

So the Japanese logos have DNA strands in the titles, which makes sense because X and Y chromosomes. But.. would this mean there would be no Z version? Z wouldn't go along with the X and Y chromosomes.

 

Well, if that is the case, which is the less likely of the two reasons for the lettering as I thought them to be, maybe they will be planning sequels similar to how Black and White got them instead of a third version, although it'd odd to me that the little symbol is only in the Japanese logo. There could still possibly be a Z one though, representing some kind of corruption if the theme really is something to do with DNA.

 

What if they just don't do a third version this time? They have surprised us before and I'm sure they will try to be more original now like with B/W 2.

 

I doubt it, in all the history of the games, there has always been a 3rd, except when they did the remakes of R/B and G/S, but in the case of B/W 2, they made a third and split it into 2, which according to alot of people out there, was a horid and wasteful idea. The idea that the 3rd Legendary fuses with one of the other two is just plain stupid. I don't believe they would try something like that again considering how bad the reputation was for those 2. The sales records indicate that most of the games sent out were not sold, and those that did were often returned..not to mention the reviews on IGN and Nintendo...I think they'll be smart and stick with the original idea of having a special 3rd addition, those have always had good reviews. Also, considering the idea that because they are on the 3DS that the two games will be representing dimensions, Y for Height, and X for Width, which seeing as Yveltal is a flying Pokémon (Height) and Xerneas is land Pokémon (Width), then for 3D that would most likely mean they plan to use Z as well for the 3rd Dimension Depth...and in my opinion I think that'll be a Water Serpent, as water = depth. What I'm hoping is that if they do Z, that it is a snake/serpent, and that it's typing ends up being Water/Poison or visa-versa...because there has never been a legendary poison type, and it needs one.

 

By a third, I mean a single game. I don't think they will do a single game again, heck, they may not even do any more follow ups to X & Y. They may decide to make a spinoff game or even a R/S/E remake as speculated. People look on to the past too much and assume they will keep stuff the same. If that was the case, we would still have the basic 2D looking games.

 

I still say, according to numbers, and how much success single 3rd games have always had, and often have had far more sales than the 2 that come before them. Yellow, Crystal, Emerald, and Platinum all had sales that were close to, if not more, than the combined sales of their gen counterparts...however, B/W 2, had far less. Now, I'm no expert, but I've worked in the world of merchandise and sales for quite a while, and any big corporation is going to often stick with something that works..something that gets them more money. So, according to previous generations, the prodution of a 3rd game has always had a posative effect, and yet also from numbers, any time a sequel has been attempted, even with the Gamecube when they did Pokémon X Gale of Darkness (sequel to Colliseum), it had little to no success.

So, in theory, a third game is almost inevitable, considering the success those games have had in the past. Some things may change, like the looks and the style, but in the process of Business, and if something is successful, you often don't ever change that....B/W 2 was proof that they shouldn't have changed their sequence. The reason they did Sequels instead of just a 3rd single game was that if you look at the sales numbers of all the previous "extra" games for each generation, they have had success, and so they thought to double that success by making 2 games, and not one...but that failed...so I'm almost certain that hey will go back to the 3 game formula, only because it has proven to be successful. I could be wrong, but from what I'm seeing, I don't have any doubts that a 3rd will be produced.

 

Eh, I'd rather not make such judgments before the game is even released.

 

A gamer can hope can't he, either way, I'll probably be getting both, plus any that may be released afterwards.

 

Admitedly I got kinda super-happy for these new games, arguably more so than Diamond/Pearl or Black/White. I guess all the excitement I'm feeling owes to the fact that I actually like all three starters this time out and also the legendary (mascots?) too. They are inspiring and makes me highly curious what their themes are. I'm thinking there's a heaven and earth concept in there somewhere, but I have one or two other theories too.

God dammit, I need to get a 3DS...
