Pikachu is a mascot well known all around the world -- its yellow coat and red cheeks are immediately recognizable to many people. What do you think of Pikachu as the Pokémon mascot of choice? Do you like it? If you could choose another mascot for the series, what would you choose? Eevee is a popular mascot idea among fans since it can evolve into so many other Pokémon; a good reference to the different types and evolutions available in the franchise. Do you think Eevee would have been a better fit than Pikachu? Discuss!
I think Eevee would be a good mascot for the Pokémon franchise, personally I think it would be a better one but is also no secret I do not like Pikachu all that much. Eevee would be good because it can become pretty much anything so it can suit almost everyone's taste, Eevee is also fairly neutral in look but cute, like Pikachu some would probably say.
At this point I really can't imagine any other mascot for Pokémon other than Pikachu. It might be because I've gotten used to Pikachu already, but any other Pokémon would seem off.
Pikachu for mascot has been imprinted on my mind. I don't particularly feel like Eevee would be a good fit, though it might be my love of Pikachu speaking.
Pikachu is the 'normal' mascot for me, but that's only because it's so familiar. If Eevee was the mascot from the start, I'd say differently. Personally, I like Eevee as the mascot better, mostly because of it's evolutions. Pichu and Raichu are well known, but don't get anywhere near Pikachu's popularity. Plus, and this is out of my bitterness at the lack of a Ghost Eeveelution, if Eevee was the mascot, we'd probably have an evolution of each type. And THAT would be awesome. #MissingNo
Clefairy was originally going to be the mascot before they decided that Pikachu would be a better fit. Personally I feel like Pikachu was, and still is, the best possible choice for Pokémon's mascot.
I agree with others in that Eevee would be a great fit for a mascot of the Pokémon franchise. However, we all know that's not going to happen, given that Pikachu has cemented itself as a brand centerpiece (particularly in the anime, where Ash has had that Pokémon since day one).
I actually wouldn't mind Mew being the new mascot. It is incredibly unlikely, but I'd watch the heck out of a series about a struggling trainer with an immature, overpowered legendary as their partner. ... I think I just gave myself a new idea for a fanfic... Other than Mew, there are a few other Pokémon asides from pikachu that I guess could work. Eevee and riolu come to mind. Growlithe, too.
The reason why Pikachu is the mascot is because it's Ash's partner in the anime. When they were deciding which Pokémon would fit the role it was origonally going to be Clefaiy but they felt it was too girly because it was pink and may chase away male viewers. They went with Pikachu for a few reasons, it was yellow and thus distinguishable since the only other major yellow cartoon character at the time was Winniw the Pooh, it appealed to both genders, and the biggest reason was because it was so rare in Red and Blue and thus a lot of kids didn't know about it. Remember there was no internet back then, so they made Pikachu follow Ash around to get children talking about it and it became the most recognizable Pokémon and thus it became the mascot. tl;dr version: Pikachu becamne Ash's parter because it was yellow, appealed to both boys and girls, andwas rare in the games and this lead to it being the mascot. Concerning Eevee as a mascot, I do like it a lot better and I think it would be a batter mascot.
I really like Pikachu but I've always preferred Raichu's design so of course I always wanted Ash's Pikachu to eventually evolve and Raichu to take up the mascot role.
I think Pikachu is nice as a mascot (although I adore Raichu much much more). I would actually like to see Eevee as the mascot, though, because it appeals to many different people. The many different evolutions it has can bring in a lot of other people, and the cuteness of Eevee is just too much to resist!
The problem with re-mascoting is that Pikachu is already such an ingrained part of the Pomemon's worldwide front. Pikachu is so huge, that Game Freak even recognized it and made Mimkyu (the saddest Pokémon ever). Even I can hardly imagine a different mascot than Pikachu. If there was, it'd have to be a Gen I Pokémon. But who? Mew is a good choice, as it was the most coveted legendary for many years, in my opinion.
I have to put up my vote for Eevee as well. Mostly because it is appealing to both boys and girl, is fairly neutral, and embodies what Pokémon stand for. The evolution of the partners and your relationship with them. Something that I find lacking with Pikachu as it is never changing.
I'm very used to Pikachu being the face of Pokémon by this point, and the idea of anything taking it's place feels foreign. Eevee is very cute and appealing to everyone, yes, but I feel like it's too plain to represent Pokémon as a whole.
Even though Eevee would be a really good choice for the mascot, I don't think anything is going to change anytime soon. People who don't really know about Pokémon know about pikachu. Besides, I don't think pikachu's gonna be knocked off his throne of popularity so easily.
Eevee is easier to remember than Pikachu's name, lol. I think that it should have been the mascot, what with its many evolutions and how it represents Pokémon in general, since it's a huge part of the games. Eevee is also a memorable Pokémon, and would be just as great if not better than Pikachu if it had been chosen as a mascot first. Too bad Pikachu is already much too well known. Well, Pikachu is Pikachu anywhere in the world...
Pikachu's name comes from the Japanese onamonapia Pikapika, representing the sound of an electrical spark, and Chuchu, representing the sound of a mouse's squeak. That means that Pikachu's name translates to Sparklesqueek. I think that is adorable and yet another reason why Pikachu is the perfect mascot.
Pikachu was a good choice, it just has a distinction about it, you know? I think it's a great mascot.
